Typically, a Dynamic Positioning System (DPS) uses a PID feed-back system, and it often adopts a wind feed-forward system because of its easier implementation than a feed-forward system based on current or wave. But, because a ship's drifting motion is caused by wind, current, and wave drift loads, all three environmental loads should be considered. In this study, a motion predictive control for the PID feedback system of the DPS is proposed, which considers the three environmental loads by utilizing predicted drifted ship positions in the future since it contains information about the three environmental loads from the moment to the future. The prediction accuracy for the future drifted ship position is ensured by adopting deep learning algorithms and a replay buffer. Finally, it is shown that the proposed motion predictive system results in better station-keeping performance than the wind feed-forward system.

Delay, delay variation and packet loss rate are principal QoS(Quality of Service) elements of packet communication. This paper proposes a new buffer allocation mechanism to improve the packet loss performance in such a situation that multiple logical buffers share a single physical memory buffer. In the proposed buffer allocation mechanism, the movement of dynamic threshold follows a curved track instead of a straight line which is used in the DT(dynamic threshold) mechanism. In order evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed mechanism, it is compared with the existing previously proposed mechanisms in several aspects including NC(no control), ST(Static Threshold) and DT mechanisms.
Using a three-dimensional numerical code, B3R developed for nuclide transport of an arbitrary length of decay chain in the buffer between the canister and adjacent rock in a high- level radioactive waste repository by adopting a finite difference method utilizing the control- volume scheme, some illustrative calculations have been done. A linear sorption isotherm, nuclide transport due to diffusion in the buffer and the rock matrix, and advection and dispersion along thin rigid parallel fractures existing in a saturated porous rock matrix as well as diffusion through the fracture wall into the matrix is assumed. In such kind of repository, buffer and rock matrix are known to be important physico-chemical harriers in nuclide retardation. To show effects of buffer and rock matrix on nuclide transport in HLW repository and also to demonstrate usefulness of B3R, several cases of breakthrough curves as well as three- dimensional plots of concentration isopleths associated with these two barriers are introduced for a typical case of decay chain of $^{234}$ Ulongrightarrow$^{230}$ Thlongrightarrow$^{226}$ Ra, which is the most important chain as far as the human environment is concerned.
Recently HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) adaptive streaming services have been the subject of much attention. The video quality control scheme of conventional HTTP adaptive streaming services estimates bandwidth using segment throughput and smooths out the sample of segment throughput. However, the conventional scheme has the problem of QoE (Quality of experience) degradation occurring with buffer underflow and frequent quality change due to the fixed number of samples. In order to solve this problem, we propose a video quality control scheme based on segment throughput and buffer occupancy. The proposed scheme determines the number of samples according to the variation of segment throughput. The proposed scheme also controls video quality based on the threshold of bitrate to keep stable buffer occupancy. The simulation results show that proposed scheme improves QoE by preventing buffer underflow and decreasing quality change when compared with the conventional scheme.
The water quality from nonpoint source run off results from different land use types has been studied. The construction of a buffer strip is one method of nonpoint source pollutant control. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model has been applied to estimate the pollutant removal through the buffer strip. When the non-business land has been changed into grass to form a buffer-strip, the change of land use effects the results of the model according to measures of the water quality. The data from a water level station within the watershed in the years 2006 and 2007 was used for calibration and validation of the model. Under the rainfall conditions in 2007, the removal rates of SS, BOD, TN, TP were 11.5%, 9.5%, 1.2%, and 4.5%, respectively. During the rainy days, the removal rates at the buffer strip were 92.3% of SS, 91.2% of BOD, 82.4% of TN, and 83.5% of TP. The pollutants from nonpoint sources were effectively removed by over 80% as they passed through the buffer strips. Rainfall resulted in soil erosion, which led to an increase in the SS concentration, therefore, the construction of buffer strips protected the streams from SS inflows. Since TN concentrations are affected by the inflows of ground water and the N concentration of the rainfall, the removal rate of TN was relatively lower than for the other pollutants.
In C language, a local buffer overflow in stack can destroy control information stored near the buffer. In case the buffer overflow is used maliciously to overwrite the stored return address, the system is exposed to serious security vulnerabilities. This paper analyzes the process of buffer overflow hacking and methodologies to avoid the attacks in details. And it proposes a device of static buffer overflow detection by using function summary and tracking information flow of buffer domain at assembly source code level(SASS, Static Assembly Source code Scanner) and then show the feasibility and validity of it by implementing a prototype in Pentium based Linux environment.
3GPP RLC protocol specification adopted an error control scheme based on selective repeat ARQ. In the 3GPP ARQ, distinctive windows are provided at transmitting and receiving stations so that those stations are prohibited to send or receive data PDU's out of window. An increase in window size enhances delay performance. Such an increase, however, raises the occupancy at re-ordering buffer, which results in a long re-ordering time. Aiming at suppressing the occupancy at re-ordering buffer, we propose partial go back N scheme in this paper In the partial go back N scheme, the receiving station regards all data PDU's between the first (lowest sequence numbered) error-detected PDU and last (highest sequence numbered) error-detected PDU. By the employment of the partial go back N scheme, the occupancy at the re-ordering buffer is apparently reduced, while the delay and throughput performance may be degraded due to the remaining properties of go back N. We thus consider peak occupancy of re-ordering buffer, mean sojourn time at re-ordering buffer, mean delay time, and maximum throughput as measures to evaluate tile proposed scheme and investigate such performance by using a simulation method. From numerical examples, we observe a trade-off among performance measures and conclude that the partial go back N scheme is able to effectively reduce the occupancy of re-ordering buffer.

Nano-sized conical-type tungsten(W) field-emitters based on carbon nanotubes(CNTs) are fabricated with the configuration of CNTs/catalyst/buffer/W-tip by adopting various buffer layers, such as TiN, Al, Al/TiN, and Al/hi/TiN. This study focuses on elucidating how the buffer layers affect the structural properties of CNTs and the electron-emission characteristics of CNT-emitters. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM) are used to monitor the nanostructures and surface morphologies of all the catalysts and CNTs grown. The crystalline structure of CNTs is also characterized by Raman spectroscopy. Furthermore, the measurement of field-emission characteristics for all the field-emitters fabricated shows that the emitter using the Al/Ni/TiN stacked buffer reveals the most excellent performances, such as maximum emission current of $202{\mu}A$, threshold field of 2.08V/${\mu}m$, and long-term (up to 24h) stability of emission current.

A frame buffer device is an abstraction for the graphic hardware. It allows application software to access the graphic hardware through a well-defined interface, so that the software doesn’t need to know anything about the low-level interface stuff. We develop a frame buffer driver for VIA’s CLE266 graphic system based on ‘Qplus’, an embedded linux operating system developed by ETRI. Then, it will be seen that our frame buffer system is applied to embedded solutions such as movie player and X server successfully.

This paper describes the results on the design and implementation of large capacity cable checking system using I/O buffer method. The I/O buffer module which has feedback loops with input and output buffers is designed with logic gate in the VME board and controlled by MPC860 microprocessor. So this system can check a lot of cable at the same time with less size and less processing time than that of relay matrix method with the A/D converter. The size of the I/O buffer module can be variable according to the number of cable. And any type of cable can be checked even if the pin assignment of cable is changed.
