Periodic cellular metals (PCMs) are actively being investigated because of their excellent specific strength and stiffness, and multi-functionality such as a heat disperse structure bearing external loading. The Kagome truss PCM has been proved that it has higher resistance to plastic buckling and lower anisotropy than other truss PCMs. In this paper, the out-of-plane compressive responses of the WBK specimens have been measured, theoretically predicted and numerically analyzed. Three specimens of two-layered WBK are fabricated and tested for measuring the responses. The peak stress of compressive behavior and effective elastic modulus are predicted based on the equilibrium equation and elastic energy conservation. Moreover, the structure of the specimen is modeled using the commercial mesh generation code, PATRAN and the finite element analysis for the model under the compression is carried out using the commercial FE code, ABAQUS. Finally, the obtained results are compared with each other to analyze the compressive characteristics of Wire-woven Bulk Kagome (WBK).
The steel-concrete double composite girder in the negative flexural region combines an additional concrete slab to the steel bottom flange to prevent the local steel buckling, however, the additional concrete slab may lower down the neutral axis of the composite section, which is a sensitive factor to the tensile stress restraint on the concrete deck. This is actually of great importance to the structural rationality and durability, but has not been investigated in detail yet. In this case, a series of 5.5 m-long composite girder specimens were tested by negative bending, among which the bottom slab configuration and the longitudinal reinforcement ratio in the concrete deck were the parameters. Furthermore, an analytical study concerning about the influence of bottom concrete slab thickness on the cracking and sectional bending-carrying capacity were carried out. The test results showed that the additional concrete at the bottom improved the composite sectional bending stiffness and bending-carrying capacity, whereas its effect on the concrete crack distribution was not obvious. According to the analytical study, the additional concrete slab at the bottom with an equivalent thickness to the concrete deck slab may provide the best contributions to the improvements of crack initiation bending moment and the sectional bending-carrying capacity. This can be applied for the design practice.
Current limit state design method for encased composite columns contains irrational and uncertain design equations in defining section and material properties of composite members. Through investigating previous research used in formulating the design equation, this paper explores the irrationality and uncertainty such as 1) transformation of yield stress and elastic modulus for composite section, 2) an equation influencing buckling strength in terms of area rather than moment of inertia, and 3) selection of larger radius of gyration between steel and concrete sections. Improving the design equations this paper proposes two design methods which can be directly used in practical design.

This paper presents the experimental results of an experiment on the current rectangular CFT columns and rectangular CFT columns additionally confined by carbon fiber sheets(CFS) under axial loading. The main experimental parameters were the layer numbers of the CFS and the depth-to-thickness ratio. Nine specimens were prepared according to the experimental parameter plans, and axial compression tests were conducted. From the tests, the failure procedure, the load-axial deformation curve, the maximum axial strength, and the deformation capacity of the CFT columns and the confined CFT columns were compared. Finally, it was seen that the maximum axial strengths of the CFT increased more significantly than that of the current CFT columns because of delayed local buckling.
The concrete filled steel tubular column have to superior in compressive load carrying capacity, compared with same section typed hollow steel tube column, and have many excellent structural properties, such as stiffness improvement by filled concrete, improvement of ductility by reinforced effect of local buckling, and the like. However, it has not clear the effect of interaction between steel tube and filled concrete, stress portion ratio and fracture mechanism of concrete. This study investigated to structural properties for high strength concrete filled steel tube column by loading conditions through a series of experiments. Especially, this study investigated the properties of structural behaviors for concrete filled steel tube column stress ratio by loading conditions and failure mechanism of filled concrete.
Recently, Concrete-filled double skin steel tubular (CFDST) columns have proven an exceptional structural resistance in terms of strength, stiffness, and ductility. However, the resistance of these column members can be severely affected by the type of loading in which bending stresses increase in direct proportion with axial load and eccentricity value. This paper presents a non-linear finite element based modeling approach that studies the behavior of slender CFDST columns under biaxial loading. Finite element models were calibrated based on the outcomes of experimental work done by other researchers. Results from simulations of slender CFDST columns under axial loading eccentric in one direction showed good agreement with the experimental response. The calibrated models are expanded to a total of thirty models that studies the behavior of slender CFDST columns under combined compression and biaxial bending. The influences of parameters that are usually found in practice are taken into consideration in this paper, namely, eccentricity-to-diameter (e/D) ratios, slenderness ratios, diameter-to-thickness (D/t) ratios, and steel contribution ratios. Finally, an analytical study based on current code provisions is conducted. It is concluded that South African national standards (2011) provided the most accurate results contrasted with the Eurocode 4 (2004) and American Institute of Steel Construction (2016) that are found to be conservative. Accordingly, correction factors are proposed to the current design guidelines to provide more satisfactory results.
This study aims to apply 3D virtual fabric parameters - as obtained from previous research experiments - to 3D virtual clothing simulation in comparing its similarity with actual clothing as worn, with a view to verifying the objectivity and validity of the 3D virtual fabric simulation method devised by the drape image analysis method. In addition, the result is intended to be used as the basic data for new 3D virtual clothing simulation methods. As the results, 3D virtual fabric parameters designed to simulate 3D drape to be similar to actual fabrics were found to be Bending Strength, Buckling Point, Density, Particle Distance, and Shear. They were also found to be important measurements when evaluating visual similarity between drape shadow images and number of nodes. 3D virtual fabric simulation method devised by the drape image analysis method was appropriate in extracting 3D fabric parameters with the reflection of actual fabrics' physical and dynamic characteristics, in connection with 3D virtual fabric simulation. 3D virtual fabric parameters with the reflection of actual fabrics' physical and dynamic characteristics using the proposed 3D virtual fabric simulation method are accumulated and provided as a standard, this will facilitate the introduction 3D virtual fabric simulation technology.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the seismic performance of high-rise reinforced concrete (RC) box-type wall structures commonly used for most residential buildings in Korea. For this purpose, an analytical model was calibrated with the results of the earthquake simulation tests on a 1:5 scale 10-story distorted model. This calibrated model was then transformed to a true model. The performance of the true model in terms of the stiffness, strength, and damage distribution through inelastic energy dissipation was observed with reference to the earthquake simulation test results. The model showed high overstrength factors ranging from 3 to 4. The existence of slab in this box-type wall system changed the main resistance mode in the wall from bending moment to tension/compression coupled moment through membrane actions, and increased the overall resistance capacity by about 25~35%, in comparison with the common design practice of neglecting the slab's existence. The flexibility of foundation, which is also commonly neglected in the engineering design, contributes to 30~50% of the roof drift in the stiff direction containing many walls. The possibility of concrete spalling and reinforcement buckling and fracture under the maximum considered earthquake (MCE) in Korea appears to be very low when compared with the case of the 2010 Concepcion, Chile earthquake.

In this paper, the procedure of generation and application of nonlinear wave loads for structural design of large container carrier was described. Ship motion and wave load was calculated by modified strip method. Pressure acting on wetted hull surface was calculated taking into account of relative hull motion to the wave. Design wave height was determined based on the most sensitive wave length considering rule vertical wave bending moment at head sea or fellowing sea condition. And the enforced heeling angie concept which was introduced by Germanischer Lloyd (GL) classification had been used to simulate high torsional moment in way of fore hold parts similar to actual sea going condition. Using wave load generated from this dynamic load calculation, FE analyses were performed. With this result, yielding, buckling, hatch diagonal deflection and fatigue strength of hatch corners were reviewed based on the requirement of GL classification. The results of FE analysis show good compatibility with GL classification.

This paper presents the results of the reliability analysis of PAU (Preliminary Assembly Unit) seat of the floating Production Storage and Off1-loading Unit (FPSO) The main aim of the analysis was to demonstrate that a sufficient safety of structural members is guaranteed against PAU loads, internal and external pressure, and hull girder moments. Topside loads for PAU design are based on owner's request. According to the seat type, topside loads are classified into maximum values of same seat type for design efficiency. Totally, 26 loading cases for each model are used for this analysis with the combination of the reactions of PAU loafing and the hull girder bending moments according to LR offshore (2). The analysis results are evaluated according to the acceptance criteria for yielding given in LR offshore and guidance note (3) and The panel buckling resistance is verified by LR offshore and SDA (4). For 900,000 bbls FPSO, the PAU support foundation analysis using 3-D F.E. model is carried out to verify the structural adequacy of PAU foundation and structure members in way of PAU. The modified structures in way of PAU support are safe against considered load cases and all stresses in way of PAU support are within design criteria.
