  • Generally, the buckling of thin-walled structures has studied for rectangular sections or circular sections. Rectangular sections have small stiffness and circular sections have large stiffness when they are compared with rectangular sections for local buckling. But both of them have similar stiffness to column buckling. Therefore in this paper, we are going to analyze the local buckling for the box section with rounded comer and compare with rectangular section. Also we confirm that the rounded comer section has larger local buckling strength than rectangular section.

  • Column tests subjected to compressive loading were carried out for the estimation of compression buckling strength of steel plate SM570 in beam-column member under high axial load. It was found that the maximum strength of column member was determined by local buckling when satisfied with a limit of width-to-thickness ratio in current steel structure design specifications, but decreased suddenly by local buckling before the maximum strength in case of not satisfying with that ratio. Also, the compression buckling strength of SM570 plate was higher than the design specification value of 4$4.1tonf/cm^2$.

  • Recently, buckling is easy to happen as that High tensile steel that is the thin plate absence is used comprehensively for the structure. Specially, buckling is getting into important design standard in hull construction which use High tensile steel. Therefore, that grasp conduct exactly after buckling is important in stability of hull structure. In this study, examined closely about conduct and secondary buckling after initial buckling of thin plate structure which receive compressive load according to various kinds yield strength under simply supported condition that make by buckling strength formula standard in each payment in advance rule to place that is representative construction of hull in this research. Analysis method is F.E.M by ANSYS and complicated nonlinear behaviour to analyze such as secondary buckling in used arc-length method.

  • The stability of a thin plate structure is very crucial problem which results buckling. Because the buckling strength of thin plates is lower than the yield strength of the material, reinforcement plate must be used to increase the buckling strength. And, in this case, spot welding is commonly used, however, the spot welded joints are practically designed by experimental decisions, so it is Inefficient and has the risks of buckling demolition. In this study, two parameters, such as the area ratio and the distance ratio of spot welding which have influence on the buckling strength, should be chosen. Under compressive and shearing load, the effect of two parameters on the critical stress is discussed.

  • When the in-plane flexural rigidity is small in relation to the applied load, the arch ribs may buckle to the in-plane direction. Designers should therefore determine the in-plane buckling strength. To determine the buckling strength of arch ribs, designers have to consider the material nonlinear response. But in the case of arch ribs having large slenderness ratio, arch ribs may buckle in the elastic range, and when the arch ribs have low slenderness ratio, elastic buckling strength is useful in the preliminary design. In this paper, elastic buckling strength of arch ribs, which are frequently used in practical design, is studied using nonlinear finite element method. In general, the relation between flexural rigidity and elastic buckling strength is linear. As seen from the results, however, when the arch ribs have low slenderness ratio, the relation between flexural rigidity and elastic buckling strength is nonlinear.

  • This work attempts to implement multiple regression analysis (MRA) for modeling and predicting the shear buckling strength of a steel beam with corrugated web. It was recognized from theoretical and experimental results that the shear buckling strength of a steel beam with corrugated web is complicated and affected by several parameters. A model that predicts the shear strength of a steel beam with corrugated web with reasonable accuracy was sought. To that end, a total of 93 experimental data points were collected from different sources. Then mathematical models for the key response parameter (shear buckling strength of a steel beam with corrugated web) were established via MRA in terms of different input geometric, loading and materials parameters. Results indicate that, with a minimal processing of data, MRA could accurately predict the shear buckling strength of a steel beam with corrugated web within a 95% confidence interval, having an $R^2$ value of 0.93 and passing the F- and t-tests.

  • In this paper, the thermal post-buckling characteristics of functionally graded (FG) pipes with initial geometric imperfection are studied. Considering the influence of initial geometric defects, temperature and geometric nonlinearity, Euler-Lagrange principle is used to derive the nonlinear governing equations of the FG pipes. Considering three different boundary conditions, the two-step perturbation method is used to solve the nonlinear governing equations, and the expressions of thermal post-buckling responses are also obtained. Finally, the correctness of this paper is verified by numerical analyses, and the effects of initial geometric defects, functional graded index, elastic foundation, porosity, thickness of pipe and boundary conditions on thermal post-buckling response are analyzed. It is found that, bifurcation buckling exists for the pipes without initial geometric imperfection. In contrast, there is no bifurcation buckling phenomenon for the pipes with initial geometric imperfection. Meanwhile, the elastic stiffness can significantly improve thermal post-buckling load and thermal post-buckling strength. The larger the porosity, the greater the thermal buckling load and the thermal buckling strength.

  • The aim of this paper is to propose a design procedure for predicting the buckling strength of built-up, cold-formed steel columns based on the two well known methods; the effective width method and the Direct Strength Method. Several design approaches, based on different elastic buckling solutions, were considered in this investigation. Traditional hand methods, without interaction effects between the different modes, and a new numerical spline finite strip method were used to predict the buckling stresses. All of the proposed methods were compared with experimental data on plain and lipped, built-up columns. Results have shown that the effective width approaches are more accurate than the Direct Strength Method. However, both methods can be investigated using more experimental data to assess a practical design method for built-up columns.

  • If arches are braced by lateral restraints, the ultimate strength of arches is determined by in-plane buckling and plastic bending collapse. This paper is conducted to investigate the in-plane nonlinear elastic and inelastic buckling behavior and the strength of fixed parabolic arches in uniform compresion, as well as to study arch behaviors against non-uniform in-plane compression and bending. As shown by the results, the limit slenderness ratio is suggested to classify the bucklingmode. Buckling strength of fixed parabolic arches under uniform compresion are evaluated using buckling curve for a straight column. Finally, an interaction e quation for arches under combined axial compresion and bending action is proposed.

  • In this study, the bend-buckling strength of the web in longitudinally stiffened plate girder was numerically investigated. The buckling strength of the reinforced web was evaluated through an eigenvalue analysis of the hypothetical model, in which the top and bottom junctions of the web to the flanges were assumed as simple support conditions. Major parameters in the analysis include asymmetrical cross-sectional property, aspect ratio of the web, stiffener locations, and bending rigidity of the stiffeners. The numerical results showed that current AASHTO LRFD specifications (2014) provides the buckling strength from considerably safe side to slightly unsafe side depending on the location of the stiffeners. A modified equation for buckling coefficients was proposed to solve the shortcomings. The bending rigidity requirements of longitudinal stiffeners stipulated in AASHTO were also investigated. It is desirable to increase the rigidity of the stiffeners when the aspect ratio is less than 1.0.
