In the ocean bubble layers play a significant role in the sound propagation as well as sound generation. Most of early works dealt with acoustic properties of the bubble layers with sharp flat boundaries. Bubble layers with sharp flat boundaries. Bubble layers with transition sublayers are more likely in the coean. In this paper a theory of sound propagation through plane bubble layers with transition sublayers at both borders was developed. It shows that the reflection and transmission coefficients depend on the thickness of transition sublayers. The theory with thicker transition sublayers shows weaker resonance properties of bubble layer. It gives better presentation for the peculiar behavior of the experimental data than that with sharp flat boundaries.
This study is a research investigation into the properties of bubbles that affect the characteristics of foamed concrete during its production. The study examined the properties of bubbles based on the manufacturing conditions. To investigate these properties, the selected experimental factors included bead size, the length/diameter ratio of the bubble-generating tube, and compressed air. The experimental design used a design of experiments, and the test results were analyzed using analysis of variance. The foaming agent used to generate bubbles was AES (Alcohol Ethoxy Sulfate), and the method employed for bubble manufacture was the pre-foaming method. In the test results, a significant factor affecting the foaming rate of bubbles was the bead size; the highest foaming rate was observed when using 2mm beads. Bead size also primarily influenced the volume change of the aqueous solution, while other factors did not affect the foaming rate and volume change. None of the factors affected the change in bubble size, but compressed air was considered the main factor affecting bubble size and its change. The foaming rate and volume change of the aqueous solution showed a high correlation with each other. Spherical bubbles in the early stage eventually transformed into angular bubbles. Moreover, over time, it was observed that the bubble size increased.
The sludge flotation/thickening apparatus equipped a micro-bubble generating pump was used to investigate micro-bubble generating properties on operational parameters. We evaluated micro-bubble generating properties as results to be operated the apparatus by operational parameters which are pump discharge pressure, air/water ratio(A/W ratio), air flow rate, and water flow rate. Micro-bubble generating efficiencies in pumps without recycling flow and with 50% of recycling flow was found to be very efficient on optimum A/W ratio from 1.06 to 3.62% and optimum A/W ratio from 1.05 to 4.06%, respectively. In condition of 3.6% of A/W ratio, we showed that the apparatus could be generated 36,000 ppm of micro-bubble concentration to be optimum treatment efficiency in sludge thickening process.

Bubbles within the foamed concrete manufactured by pre-foaming method is the main factor which affects the physical properties of foamed concrete such as density, strength, and porosity. Although many researches on foamed concrete have been continuously carried out, insufficient number of researches on the properties related to bubbles in the foamed concrete has been performed except for chemical application related researches. In order to make an optimal foamed concrete, study on the bubble properties must be pursued. In order to effectively implement bubbles in the manufacturing of foamed concrete, the bubble properties must be estimated. In this study, in order to determine the bubble properties, examination of the bubble properties according to types and foaming agent concentration was performed. An foaming agent used for this test were anionic surfactant, rosin, and protein system with the foaming agent concentration range of 0.05~13%. Test parameters considered in the study were foaming rate, foam volume, drainage solution volume, and bubble size. The study results showed that, regardless of foaming agent type, higher concentration of foaming agent showed an increase in the foaming rate. Also, the results showed that concentration of foaming agent affected bubble size, drainage solution volume change, and bubble distributions. With respect to the stability of the bubble, protein foaming agent was better than anion surfactant or rosin foaming agent. With respect to the bubble shape, anion surfactant and rosin formed bubbles had polygon shape where as protein formed bubbles had spherical shape.

This study aims to analyze the properties of the temperature change in vertical reinforcements in outdoor wall structures in winter in relation to the different methods of bubble sheet installation, and to subsequently determine the possibility of initial frost damage to the concrete as a result of low temperature. As for the experimental variables, double bubble sheets were used as curing materials, and the curing method was to model the part where the slab and the wall intersect and the rebar is exposed, and to measure the change of temperature around the exposed rebar in accordance with the change of the coating curing. It was found that by employing curing method B, which is to install the bubble sheet between the vertical reinforcements, the most vulnerable area, which is 50mm below(④) the surface of the concrete, would be lowered to sub-zero temperature 20 hours later than when using curing method A, and that therefore it is more effective to install the bubble sheet between the vertical reinforcements for the prevention of initial frost damage.
Gas-liquid 2 phase processes are usually used in chemical, biochemical, environmental engineering and food process. For optimizing these processes, understanding bubble's precise movement and shape are needed. Bubble's movement and shape are effected by liquid's properties-viscosity, surface tension and bubble's properties-size, velocity. This paper deals with experimental data of bubble's movement and shape in high viscous silicone oil. Also, drag coefficient and deformation factor given by other researcher's papers and books are used to predicting and comparing bubble's terminal velocity, drag coefficient, deformation factor and shape with experimental value. Experimental data show that bubble moves faster when it moves in lower viscous silicone oil and it's drag coefficient is bigger when it moves in high viscous silicone oil. Bubble's shape is close to sphere when moving in high viscous silicone. Formulas proposed by Batchelor expect most accurate prediction for bubble's velocity and drag coefficient. Bubble's 2D shape predicted by Batchelor's energy balance, drag coefficient and deformation factor show excellent agreement with experimental bubble's 2D shape.
Characteristics of bubbling behavior and bubble properties were investigated in a gas-liquid countercurrent bubble column of in diameter 0.152 m and 3.5 m in height, respectively. Effects of gas and liquid velocities and bubble distribution mode(even, wall-side, central or asymmetric distribution) on the bubble properties such as chord length, frequency, rising velocity and holdup in the reactor were measured and examined by means of dual resistivity probe method. The bubble size, frequency and holdup increased with increasing gas($U_G$) or liquid velocity($U_L$). The rising velocity of bubbles increased with increasing $U_G$, whereas decreased with increasing $U_L$. The uniformity of bubble size distribution and bubble holdup decreased when the distribution mode of bubbles at the gas distributor was changed from even to wall-side, central or asymmetric. The central distribution of bubbles was better than asymmetric mode but worse than wall-side distribution, in considering the bubble holdup and uniformity of distribution.
Accurate prediction of size, shape and velocity of a bubble rising through a liquid pool is very important for predicting the particulate removal efficiency in pool scrubbing, for designing engineering safety features to prepare for severe accidents in nuclear power plants, and for predicting the emission of fission products from MCCI (molten core-concrete interaction) process during severe accidents. In this review article, previous studies on the determination of the size, shape and rising velocity of a bubble in liquid are reviewed. Various theoretical and parameterization formulas calculating the bubble size, shape and velocity from physical properties of liquid and gas flowrate are compared. Recent studies tend to suggest simple parameterizations that can easily determine the bubble shape and rising velocity without iteration, whereas iteration has to be performed to determine the bubble shape and velocity in old theories. The recent parameterizations show good agreement with measured data obtained from experiments conducted using different liquid materials with very diverse physical properties, proving themselves to be very useful tools for researchers in related fields.
This paper deals with the numerical simulation of the behavior of single bubble rising near the free surface. Volume fraction of fluid (VOF) method with continuum surface force (CSF) model, the well known method for two phase flow simulation is adopted. A bubble of spherical shape positioned beneath the free surface is assumed at the initial stage. The difference according to the fluid properties of surrounding medium is examined. Simulation results are depicted and explained with the time history of bubble shape, velocity field and vorticity distribution.
Spacer grid with mixing vane had been widely used in nuclear reactor core. One of the main feather of spacer grid with mixing vane was that strong swirl flow was formed after the spacer grid. The swirl flow not only changed the bubble generation in the near wall field, but also affected the bubble behaviors in the center region of the subchannel. The interaction between bubble and the swirl flow was one of the basic phenomena for the two phase flow modeling in fuel assembly. To obatin better understanding on the bubble behaviors in swirl flow, full three dimension numerical simulations were conducted in the present paper. The swirl flow was assumed in the cylindral calculation domain. The bubble interface was captured by Volume Of Fluid (VOF) method. The properties of saturated water and steam at different pressure were applied in the simulation. The bubble trajectory, motion, shape and force were obtained based on the bubble parameters captured by VOF. The simulation cases in the present study included single bubble with different size, at different angular velocity conditions and at different pressure conditions. The results indicated that bubble migrated to the center in swirl flow with spiral motion type. The lateral migration was mainly related to shear stress magnitude and bubble size. The bubble moved toward the center with high velocity when the swirl magnitude was high. The largest bubble had the highest lateral migration velocity in the present study range. The effect of pressure was small when bubble size was the same. The prelimenery simulation result would be beneficial for better understanding complex two phase flow phenomena in fuel assembly with spacer grid.
