  • When a bubble reaches a free surface, a bursting of the bubble produces a high speed jet. Despite its practical importance, significant effort has been devoted to investigate a bursting jet by a single bubble near a free surface. In the present study, we perform numerical simulations of bubbles in a tandem arrangement at Bo=0.05. The configuration of the tandem bubbles is systematically varied by changing a radius of a following bubble (RF) and the gap distance between two bubbles (L). Compared to a single bubble case, we show that the bursting bubble in the tandem arrangement accelerates, and the jet velocity increases. Moreover, we find that a critical gap distance at which the jet velocity unexpectedly changes exists in the tandem case.

  • Bubble jet loop heat pipe is a newly devised variation of heat pipe in which heat is effectively transported by the latent heat of evaporation and condensation as well as the heat capacity of circulating working fluid. The circulatory and oscillating motion of the working fluid becomes possible by the motion of bubble jet which is generated at a narrow circular gap. These bubbles are condensed at the condensing section. Bubble jet loop heat pipe makes it possible to carry heat long distances upward and horizontal directions. Because Its structure is a very simple and a low cost, it is available for the floor heating, vinyl house heating, the defrosting of heat pump system and home refrigerator.

  • In order to increase the performance of conventional hot water floor heating system, the bubble jet loop heat pipe for the system was developed. This experiment was conducted under next conditions : Working fluid was R-134a, charging ratio was 50%. A temperature of hot water, room temperature and flow rate were $60^{\circ}C$, $15^{\circ}C$ and 0.5~1.5 kg/min, respectively. The experimental results, show that bubble jet loop heat pipe had a high effective thermal conductivity of $4714kW/m^{\circ}C$ and a sufficient heat flux of $73W/m^2$ to heat the floor to $35^{\circ}C$ in case of the 1.5 kg/min of flow rate. So the bubble jet loop heat pipe has a possibility for appling of the floor heating system. Additionally, the visualization of bubble jet loop heat pipe was performed to understand the operating principle. Bubbles made by the narrow gap between inner tube and outer tube of evaporating part generate pulsation at liquid surface of working fluid. The pulsation had slug flow and wavy flow. So working fluid circulates in the bubble jet loop heat pipe as two phase flow pattern. And large amount of heat is transferred by the latent heat from evaporating part to condensing part.

  • Recently, 3D printing technology is a hot issue in various industrial fields. According to the user's application, it allows for the free form fabrication method to be utilized in a wide range. The powder based fusion technique is one of the 3D printing methods. When using this method it is possible to apply the various binder jetting techniques such as piezo, thermal bubble jet, dispenser and so on. In this paper, a multi thermal bubble ink jet was integrated for jetting of powder binding material and developing a power fused 3D printing system. For high quality 3D printing parts, it needs an analysis and evaluation of the behavior of the thermal bubble ink jet head. In the experiment, a correlation between jetting binder quantity and layer thickness of powder was investigated, and a 3D part model was fabricated, which was used by measuring the scale factor.

  • A numerical analysis was performed on the effect of the design parameters of a bubble jet type microactuator on its liquid flow characteristics. The numerical models included the ink flow from the reservoir, bubble formation and growth, ejection through the nozzle, and dynamics of the refilling process. Because the bubble behavior is a very important parameter for the overall actuator performance, the bubble growth and collapse phenomena in an open pool were simulated in the present study. The drop ejection and refill process were numerically predicted for various geometries of the nozzle, chamber, and restrictor of the bubble jet microactuator. The numerical results from varying the design parameters can help with predicting the performance and optimizing the design of a microactuator.

  • In this study, a high performance Bubble Jet Loop Heat Pipe (BJLHP) was developed using the enhanced nucleate boiling surfaces in an evaporating section. A sintered tube and GEWA-T(Wieland) tube were used enhance nucleate boiling. The thermal performance of these BJLHP was compared with the conventional smooth tube BJLHP with an effective thermal conductivity. This experiment was conducted under the following conditions : working fluid, charging ratio and input power of R-141b, 50%vol., 75W and 100W, respectively. As a result, the effective thermal conductivity of BJLHP with a sintered tube in the evaporating section was 300% higher than the smooth tube BJLHP.

  • In this study, we experimentally investigated that the optimization of pulsating jet to reduce the separated flow region behind the vertical fence. The vertical fence was submerged in the turbulent boundary layer in the circulating water channel and we applied phase averaged PIV method to measure the instantaneous velocity fields around the fence. One cycle of pulsating jet is divided into 20 phases and grabbed total 200 instantaneous velocity fields at each phase. The experiments were performed by varying the frequency, maximum jet velocity and the shape of pulsating jet wave. Pulsating jet was precisely made by piston-type pump controlled by the computer. The obtained results were compared with normal fence flow. From this study, we found there is the specific frequency which is effective in reducing the reattachment region.

  • In this paper, an empirical model of air bubble size to be applied to an air masker for reduction of underwater radiation noise is presented. The proposed model improves the divergence problem under the low-speed flow condition of the existing model derived using Rayleigh's jet instability model and simple continuity condition by introducing a jet flow velocity of air. The jet flow velocity of air is estimated using the bubble size where the liquid is quiescent. In a medium without flow, the size of the bubble is estimated by an empirical method where bubble formation regime is divided into a laminar-flow range, a transition range, and a turbulent-flow range based on the Reynolds number of the injected air. The proposed bubble size model is confirmed to be in good agreement with the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis result and the experimental results of the existing literature. Using the acoustic inversion method, the air bubble population is estimated from the insertion loss measured during the air injection experiment of the air- masker model in a large cavitation tunnel. The results of the experiments and the bubble size model are compared in the paper.

  • This research was conducted to reduce the defect rate caused by nozzle clogging of printing heads used in binder jet 3D printers. The binder jet 3D printing technology may adhere to the printing head nozzle by dispersing powder due to mechanical operation such as transferring the printing head and supplying powder, and may cause nozzle clogging by natural curing at the nozzle end depending on the type of binder used. To solve this problem, this study created a cleaning module exclusively for printing heads to check whether the durability of printing heads is improved through analysis of printing results before and after using the cleaning module. To this end, this research used a thermal bubble jet printing head, and the used powder was studied using gypsum powder.
