  • In this paper, we propose a 3D human body reconstruction and refinement method from the frames extracted from a video to obtain natural and smooth motion in temporal domain. Individual frames extracted from the video are fed into convolutional neural network to estimate the location of the joint and the silhouette of the human body. This is done by projecting the parameter-based 3D deformable model to 2D image and by estimating the value of the optimal parameters. If the reconstruction process for each frame is performed independently, temporal consistency of human pose and shape cannot be guaranteed, yielding an inaccurate result. To alleviate this problem, the proposed method analyzes and interpolates the principal component parameters of the 3D morphable model reconstructed from each individual frame. Experimental result shows that the erroneous frames are corrected and refined by utilizing the relation between the previous and the next frames to obtain the improved 3D human reconstruction result.

  • As multimedia contents demand and supply increase, internet traffic around the world increases. Several standardization groups are striving to establish more efficient compression standards to mitigate the problem. In particular, research to introduce deep learning technology into compression standards is actively underway. Despite the fact that deep learning-based technologies show high performance, they suffer from the domain gap problem when test video sequences have different characteristics of training video sequences. To this end, several methods have been made to introduce content-adaptive deep video compression. In this paper, we will look into these methods by three aspects: codec information-aware methods, model selection methods, and information signaling methods.

  • After the launch of MPEG-2, it is widely used in multimedia applications like a Digital-TV or a DVD. Then, After the launch of H.264 at 2004, it has been expected to replace MPEG-2 and services IPTV and DMB. As we have been used to MPEG-2 devices by this time, we can not access H.264 Broadcast with MPEG-2 device. So We propose a new approach to transcode H.264 video into MPEG-2 form which can facilitate to display H.264 video with MPEG-2 device. To reduce the quality loss by transcoding, we use CPDT(Cascaded Pixel Domain Transcoder) structure. And to minimize processing time, SKIP block, INTRA block and motion vectors obtain from decoding process is employed for transcoding. we use BMA(Boundary Matching Algorithm) to select only one from candidate motion vectors. Experimental results show a considerable improved PSNR with reduction in processing time compared with existing methods.

  • Virtual LAN (VLAN) is an architecture to enable communication between end stations as if they were on the same LAN regardless of their physical locations. VLAN defines a limited broadcast domain to reduce the bandwidth waste. The Newbridge Inc. developed a layer 3 VLAN product called VIVID, which configures a VLAN based on W subnet addresses. In a VIVID system, a single route server is deployed for address resolution, VLAN configuration, and data broadcasting to a VLAN. If the size of the network, over which the VLANS supported by the VIVID system spans, becomes larger, this single route server could become a bottleneck point of the system performance. One possible approach to cope with this problem is to deploy multiple route servers. We propose two architectures, organic and independent, to expand the original VIVID system to deploy multiple route servers. A course of simulations are done to analyze the performance of each architecture that we propose. The simulation results show that the performances of the proposed architectures depend on the lengths of VLAN broadcasting sessions and the number of broadcast data frames generated by a session. It has also been shown that there are tradeoffs between the scalability of the architecture and their efficiency in data transmissions.

  • Everyone has a voice and can broadcast it to the world. We hear about the old maxim of media do not tell people what to think but what to think about. Under this theory or approach, a key function of political communication is to make the public think about an issue in a way that is favorable to the sender of the message. In a democracy, political communication is seen as crucial for the building of a society where the state and its people feel they are connected. Thus, this is a study on how social media (e.g., Facebook, blogs, and YouTube) were used in the domain of Malaysian politics during the 13th general election campaigning period in order to set the agenda to form public opinion. The study found that Facebook was the most popular social media tool that political parties actively engaged with during the 13th general election campaign period. Apart from that, issues pertaining to the election were significantly highlighted by the political parties in social media, especially Facebook. However, other issues that were also important to the people such as the economy, crime, and education were not sufficiently highlighted during the election campaign period. This indicates that the political parties influence the public on what to think about using social media.

  • As an alternative to the traditional pilot-aided orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), the time-domain pseudonoise (PN)-padded OFDM provides a higher spectral efficiency. However, the carrier frequency offset (CFO) attenuates peaks of the conventional PN correlation output, which limits the CFO estimation range of the OFDM synchronizer. An improved correlation is proposed in this letter to remove the CFO-induced amplitude attenuation of correlation peaks. For a synchronizer adopting the designed correlator, a larger range of CFO acquisition is obtained through using wider correlation windows with a smaller interval between them. The proposed method of CFO acquisition is verified in a digital terrestrial multimedia broadcast receiver, in which the synchronizer is able to acquire CFOs up to ${\pm}320$ kHz in the DVB-T F1 channel. Furthermore, the acquisition range can be expanded in more favorable channels.

  • Discrimination of music and speech from the multimedia signal is an important task in audio coding and broadcast monitoring systems. This paper deals with the problem of feature parameter extraction for discrimination of music and speech. The wavelet transform is a multi-resolution analysis method that is useful for analysis of temporal and spectral properties of non-stationary signals such as speech and audio signals. We propose new feature parameters extracted from the wavelet transformed signal for discrimination of music and speech. First, wavelet coefficients are obtained on the frame-by-frame basis. The analysis frame size is set to 20 ms. A parameter $E_{sum}$ is then defined by adding the difference of magnitude between adjacent wavelet coefficients in each scale. The maximum and minimum values of $E_{sum}$ for period of 2 seconds, which corresponds to the discrimination duration, are used as feature parameters for discrimination of music and speech. To evaluate the performance of the proposed feature parameters for music and speech discrimination, the accuracy of music and speech discrimination is measured for various types of music and speech signals. In the experiment every 2-second data is discriminated as music or speech, and about 93% of music and speech segments have been successfully detected.

  • Image resizing (or scaling) is one of the most essential issues for the success of visual service because image data has to be adapted to the variety of display features. For 2D imaging, the image scaling is generally accomplished by 2D image re-sampling (i.e., up-/down-sampling). However, when it comes to stereoscopic 3D images, 2D re-sampling methods are inadequate because additional consideration on the third dimension of depth is not incorporated. Practically, stereoscopic 3D image scaling is process with left/right images, not stereoscopic 3D image itself, because the left/right Images are only tangible data. In this paper, we analyze stereoscopic 3D image scaling from two aspects: geometrical deformation and frequency-domain aliasing. A number of 3D displays are available in the market and they have various screen dimensions. As we have more varieties of the displays, efficient stereoscopic 3D image scaling is becoming more emphasized. We present the recommendations for the 3D scaling from the geometric analysis and propose a disparity-adaptive filter for anti-aliasing which could occur during the image scaling process.

  • One of the most widely used image media in recent years, omni-directional panorama images are attracting much attention. Since this image is ultra-high value-added, the intellectual property of this image must be protected. In this paper, we propose a blind digital watermarking method for this image. In this paper, we assume that the owner of each original image may be different, insert different watermark data into each original image, and extract the watermark from the projected image, which is a form of service of omni- directional panorama image. Therefore, the main target attack in this paper is the image distortion which occurs in the process of the omni- directional panorama image. In this method, SIFT feature points of non-stitched areas are used, and watermark data is inserted into data around each feature point. We propose two methods of using two-dimensional DWT coefficients and spatial domain data as data for inserting watermark. Both methods insert watermark data by QIM method. Through experiments, these two methods show robustness against the distortion generated in the panorama image generation process, and additionally show sufficient robustness against JPEG compression attack.
