Concrete are brittle materials and they are which come to brittle fracture rapidly by progress of cracks. Therefore, what the time for repairing the damage portion is understands importantly by such cracks. When they happened the glass pipe similar to concrete was used. Such a glass pipe can insert repair material in an inside, or can use it by switch. They are interested in the crack monitoring of structure using FM radio sensor and PZT sensor. In this study, the monitoring to a crack was studied using FM radio sensor and PZT sensor. Therefore, the purpose of this study is the fundamental research which detects damages of main members using the compound sensor which consisted of the radio sensors of resistance, PZT, and FM system.
The most widely-used orthopaedic grade polymer bearing liner material, ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), for the total joint arthroplasty degrades after gamma-irradiation sterilization through the progressive oxidation in a shelf and in vivo. Oxidative degradation makes UHMWPE brittle and leads to decrease in mechanical properties. In this study the relationship between post-gamma-irradiation aging time and wear of UHMWPE was investigated. Six retrieved polyethylene hip liners implanted for 3-16 years and then stored in air for 1.5-6.5 years until tests were used. Two types of pin-on-disk wear testing were conducted by the uni-directional repeat pass rotating and by the linear reciprocating stainless steel disks against stationary polyethylene pins under 4Mpa at 1Hz with bovine serum lubrication in ambient environment. Wear of retrieved polyethylene hip liners does not have direct correlation with in vivo or total aging time. Linear reciprocal sliding motion generated more remarkable wear than uni-directional repeat pass sliding motion. It indicates that kinematic motion affects very crucially on the wear of aged UHMWPE having brittle white band region.
This work deals with a damage model formulation taking into account the unilateral effect of the mechanical behaviour of brittle materials such as concrete. The material is assumed as an initial elastic isotropic medium presenting anisotropy, permanent strains and bimodularity induced by damage evolution. Two damage tensors governing the stiffness in tension or compression regimes are introduced. A new damage tensor in tension regimes is proposed in order to model the diffuse damage originated in prevails compression regimes. Accordingly with micromechanical theory, the constitutive model is validate when dealing with unilateral effect of brittle materials, Finally, the proposed model is applied in the analyses of reinforced concrete framed structures submitted to reversal loading. The numerical results have shown the good performance of the modelling and its potentialities to simulate practical problems in structural engineering.
This study focuses the mechanical deformation response predicted by the plasticity model for polycrystalline ice. To describe various deformation characteristics, ice is idealized as a perfectly plastic material using an asymptotic exponential failure criterion. This criterion is suite for describing materials which exhibit brittle deformation at low hydrostatic pressure and ductile deformation at high hydrostatic pressure. The results are compared to those of continuum damage mechanics model. Plasticity model shows good agreement with damage model and experimental results for high confining pressures even at high strain-rates which is usually considered as a brittle condition under uniaxial compression.

The material deterioration of service-exposed boiler tube steels in fossil power plant was evaluated by using the electrochemical technique namely, modified electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation(EPR). It was focused that the passivation of Mo$_{6}$C carbide which governs the mechanical properties of Mo alloyed steels did not occur even in the passivity region of steel in sodium molybdate solution and the reactivation peak current (Ip) observed as the result of non-passivation indicating the precipitation of Mo$_{6}$C carbides. To obtain the optimal test conditions for the field test by using the specially designed electrochemical cell, the effects of scan rate, the surface roughness and the pH of electrolyte on Ip value were also investigated. Furthermore, the change of mechanical properties occurred during the long time exposure at high temperature was evlauated quantitatively by small punch(SP) tests and micro hardness test taking account of the metallurgical changes. It is known that reactivation peak current (Ip) has a good relationship with Larson-Miller Parameter(LMP) which represents the information about material deterioration occurred at high temperature environment. In addition it was possible to estimate the ductile-brittle transition temperature (DBTT) by means of the SP test. The Sp test could be, therefore, suggested as a reliable test method for evaluating the material degradation of boiler tube steels. From the good correaltion between the SP DBTT and Ip values shown in this study, it was knows that the change of mechanical properties could be evaluated non-destructively by measurring only Ip values.ues.
This research was aimed to evaluate the material degradation with various microstructures of X20CrMoV121 steel weldment by Advanced Small Punch(ASP) test. Due to the regional limitation on constitutive structures, the minimized loading ball(${\varphi}1.5mm$) and bore diameter of lower die(${\varphi}3mm$) were designed for the ASP test. The micro-hardness test was also performed to assess the mechanical properties with artificial aging heat treatment. Material degradation was estimated by ductile-brittle transition temperature(DBTT). The results obtained from the ASP test were compared with those from conventional small punch(CSP) test and CVN impact test for several weldment microstructures. It was found that the ASP test clearly showed the microstructural dependance on the material degradation in the weldment.
In recent years, perhaps the biggest driver in new material development is the desire to improve crown and bridge esthetics compared to the traditional PFM or all-metal restorations. As such, zirconia, leucite-containing glass ceramic and lithium disilicate glass ceramic have become prominent in the dental practice. Each material type performs differently regarding strength, toughness, ease of machining and the final preparation of the material prior to placement. For example, glass ceramic are typically weaker materials which limits its use to single-unit restorations. On the other hand, zirconia has a high fracture toughness which enables multi-unit restorations. This material requires a long sintering procedure which excludes its use for fast chair side production. Developed hybrid material of CAD/CAM is contained nano ceramic elements. This new material, called a Resin Nano Ceramic is unique in durability and function. The material is not a resin or composite. It is also not a pure ceramic. The material is a mixture of both and consists of ceramic. Like a composite, the material is not brittle and is fracture resistant. Like a glass ceramic, the material has excellent polish retention for lasting esthetics. The material is easily machined chair side or in a dental lab, polishes quickly to an esthetic finish and if necessary, can be useful restoratives.
The efficiency of thermoelectric devices for different applications is known to depend on the thermoelectric effectiveness of the material which tends to grow with the increase of its chemical homogeneity. Thus an important goal for thermal devices is to obtain chemically homogeneous solid solutions. In this work, the new process with rapid solidification (melt spinning method) followed by hot pressing was investigated to produce homogeneous material. Characteristics of the material were examined with HRD, SEM, EPMA-line scan and bending test. Property variations of the materials were investigated as a function of variables, such as dopant ${CdCl}_{2}$ quantity and hot pressing temperature. Quenched ribbons are very brittle and consist of homogeneous $Bi_2Te_3$, ${Bi}_{2}{Se}_{3}$ solid solutions. When the process parameters were optimized, the maximum figure of merit was 2.038$\times$$10^{-3}K^{-4}. The bending strength of the material hot pressed at 50$0^{\circ}C$ was 8.2 kgf/${mm}^2$.

This paper presents a comprehensive approach to the evaluation of macroscopic material parameters for natural stone and quarry masonry. To that end, a reliable non-linear material model on a meso-scale is developed to cover the random arrangement of stone blocks and quasi-brittle behaviour of both basic components, as well as the impaired cohesion and tensile strength on the interface between the blocks and mortar joints. The paper thus interrelates the following three problems: (i) definition of a suitable periodic unit cell (PUC) representing a particular masonry structure; (ii) derivation of material parameters of individual constituents either experimentally or running a mixed numerical-experimental problem; (iii) assessment of the macroscopic material parameters including the tensile and compressive strengths and fracture energy.
