The Effect of Hydrogen Peroxide Bleaching on the Properties of Hardwood Kraft Pulp Absorbed with Birchwood Xylan

  • Xylan can be applied to improve the strength properties of paper; however the optical properties, such as brightness, are decreased significantly. To solve that problem, an applicable bleaching process is therefore desired. The aim of this research was to investigate the impact of hydrogen peroxide bleaching on hardwood kraft pulp pretreated with birchwood xylan by measuring optical properties (whiteness, brightness, opacity) as well as physical properties (tensile index, tearing index, bulk) of handsheets made from the bleached pulp. Hydrogen peroxide bleaching, as a kind of totally chlorine free (TCF) bleaching method, is quite important industrially for chemical pulp. In our work, the process variables of peroxide bleaching including bleaching temperature, time, initial pH and $MgSO_4$ dosage were studied. The results showed that both good mechanical properties and optical properties could be achieved when the operating parameters were controlled properly and therefore hydrogen peroxide bleaching was proved to be a suitable method for bleaching hardwood kraft pulp with adsorption of birchwood xylan.

  • LCD(liquid crystal display) TV용 백라이트의 광원으로서 면광원이 개발되었으며, 이를 이용한 조명 기기를 제작 및 평가하였다. 면광원은 유리성형을 통하여 채널을 형성하였으며 채널의 모양을 최적화하여 면광원을 이용한 조명 기기의 효율을 향상시킬 수 있었다. 본 논문에서는 특히 현재 주로 사용되고 있는 형광등과의 비교 평가를 통하여 조명용 면광원의 광 효율 및 조도 특성에 관한 성능을 평가하였다. 채널의 구조가 최적화된 면광원을 이용하여 제작된 32"형 조명 기기의 광 효율은 72.7[1m/W]이었다.

An Experimental Study to Determine Proper Lighting Conditions in Powder Rooms

  • In this study, a mock powder room was installed with variable LED lighting environments in order to conduct the experiments. The experimental conditions include luminaire type, illuminance ratio, vertical illuminance and color temperatures. The evaluation methods used were the Semantic Differential Method and a subjective evaluation on activities through observation. The SD evaluation result factor analysis categorizes ideas into three factors: brightness, emotion, and glare. The vertical bracket or the combined luminaire (luminous panel+ Vertical bracket) has better brightness than luminous panel. A vertical illuminance of 500lx is not significantly difference as compared to 600lx, allowing 500lx to be considered standard. The emotional atmosphere is evaluated as being better at lower color temperature. The luminous panel is the best for reducing glare while the vertical bracket is the worst. The best conditions differ according to the illuminance ratio of the luminous panel and vertical bracket. In the subjective evaluation (satisfaction with lighting environment, suitability to activity) the combined luminaire and 4000K received the best evaluation.

출력전류 제어 기능이 향상된 고휘도 LED 구동 IC 설계 (Design of the High Brightness LED Driver IC with Enhanced the Output Current Control Function)

  • In this paper, High Brightness LED driver IC using new current sensing circuit is proposed. This LED driver IC can provide a constant current with high current precision over a wide input voltage range. The proposed current-sensing circuit is composed of a cascode current sensor and a current comparator with only one reference voltage. This IC minimizes the voltage stress of the MOSFET from the maximum input voltage and has low power consumption and chip area by using simple-structured comparator and minimum bias current. The LED current ripple of the designed IC is in ${\pm}5%$ and a tolerance of the average LED current is lower than 2.43%. This shows much improved feature than the previous method. Also, protections for input voltage and operating temperature are designed to improve the reliability of the designed IC. Designed LED driver IC uses $1{\mu}m$ X-Fab. BiCMOS process parameters and electrical characteristics and functioning are verified by spectre(Cadence) simulation.

  • New luminescent material, 6,11-Dihydroxy-5,12-naphthacenedione$(Alq_2-Ncd)$ was synthesized. And extended efforts have been made to obtain high-performance electro-luminescent(EL) devices, since the first report of organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs) based on tris-(8-hydroxy-quinoline)aluminum$(Alq_3)$ Current-voltage characteristics, brightness-voltage characteristics, luminous efficiency and quantum efficiency were measured at room temperature. The maximum wavelength of the EL is at around 504nm and the brightness is up to $2702[cd/m^2]$ with the maximum efficiency up to 3.91 [1m/W]. This study indicates not only the sterical effect but also some other effect would be responsible for the change of the emission wavelength.

  • 최근 에너지 절약형 건물에 많은 관심을 기울이고 있으며, 이를 위해 보냉, 보온의 단열재 등의 건축재료 개발이 많이 이루어지고 있다. 이와 더불어 건물 내외의 온도와 밝기는 햇볕의 밝기, 위치 및 기후변화에 따라 많은 영향을 끼치므로 자연채광에 따른 건물의 위치는 건물을 짓는데 있어서 고려해야할 중요한 변수이다. 본 논문에서는 자연채광과 비슷한 조건을 만들어 모델링하기 위해 반구형의 돔으로 된 원형 지붕에 자연채광의 역할을 하는 342개의 백열전구를 인공채광으로써 설치하였다. 특히 여기서는 각 백열전구의 밝기제어에 관한 것을 중점적으로 다루고 있으며, 다수의 PIC 마이크로프로세서와 트라이악을 이용한 위상제어로 전구의 밝기를 제어한 실험결과를 제시하고 있다.

제조신뢰성 확보를 위한 청자의 소성조건 분석에 관한 연구 (A Study on Fireing condition analysis of celadon porcelain for reliability manufacturing)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the best firing condition for Celadon, which is one of the famous traditional pottery to represent Korean culture, by minimizing energy consumption, cutting firing time, shortening the time of processing ceramic making, in order to, save energy as well as to protect the potters' health. Most Korean potter starts their reduction from $950^{\circ}C$ to change kiln atmosphere. However on this study, reduction have started from $950^{\circ}C\;to\;1200^{\circ}C$ by increasing $50^{\circ}C$ at a time. Then the results are analyzed to be compared to previous Celadon, in colors, chroma, and brightness. As a results, it is found, that the best temperature for starting reduction is $1100^{\circ}C$, when chroma and brightness values to meet same with previous celadon. Therefore the best condition could be made by starting the reduction on $1100^{\circ}C$ to fire celadon, which would have shorten 2 hours of firing process and, at the same time, it could have saved the energy by 12%.

  • The green emitting phosphors of the Field Emission Display(FED), Al codoped ZnGa$_{2}$O$_{4}$:Mn, were synthesized and sintered at high temperature. From X-ray diffraction measurements, it was confirmed that poly crystalline ZnGa$_{2}$O$_{4}$ and ZnAI$_{2}$O$_{4}$ solid solution coexist in Al codoped ZnGa$_{2}$O$_{4}$:Mn. Photoluminescence spectra of Al codoped ZnGa$_{2}$O$_{4}$:Mn show that the main peak position is shifted from 504 nm to 513 nm with the increase of Al concentration. The brightness was improved with the amount of Al dopant. It showed the maximum value at the doping level of 0.03 mole and then, it degraded rapidly. These results are due to the superposition of emission from . ZnGa$_{2}$O$_{4}$:Mn and ZnAI$_{2}$O$_{4}$:Mn.

  • We have constructed a level-1 processor to generate brightness temperatures using the direct-broadcast data from the passive microwave radiometer onboard Aqua satellite. Although 50-minute half-orbit data, called a granule, are being routinely produced, to our knowledge, this is the first attempt to process about 10-minute long direct-broadcast data. We modified the processor designed for a granule to process the direct-broadcast data. After the modification, our brightness temperature product differs from the reference by 0.2K rms. Sea surface temperatures are retrieved to demonstrate the utility of AMSR-E.

기판 온도에 따른 OLED 소자의 발광 특성 (Luminescent Properties of OLEO Devices with Various Substrate Temperatures)

  • The characteristics of organic films can be affected by the temperature of evaporation source because the temperature of evaporation source has an effect on substrate temperature during OLED fabrication process using the thermal evaporation. To investigate the characteristics of OLED devices fabricated by using thermally damaged organic films, I-V-L and half life-time in OLED devices fabricated with various substrate temperatures were measured. During emission layer(EML) evaporation, OLED devices with a structure of ITO(100 nm)/ELM200(50 nm)/NPB(30 nm)/$Alq_3$(55 nm)/LiF(0.7 nm)/Al(100 nm) were fabricated at various substrate temperatures(room temperature, $30^{\circ}C$, $40^{\circ}C$, and $50^{\circ}C$). The characteristics of current density and luminance versus applied voltage in OLED devices fabricated shows that many electrical currents flowed and high brightness appeared at low voltage, but that the lifetime of OLED devices dropped suddenly. This phenomenon explained that the crystallization of $Alq_3$ thin film appeared owing to the substrate heating during evaporation.
