The need for maintenance of bridge infrastructure is increasing due to aging, and the cost of maintaining the infrastructure must be calculated for effective budget distribution. Therefore, in this study, representative defects according to bridge superstructure type are derived to calculate the cost for each repair method. First of all, the representative bridges, PSCI girder bridge, Rahmen bridge, Steel box girder bridge, and RC slab bridge, were selected as superstructures using BMS data, and repair methods for defects were presented. In addition, the cost of the repair method by superstructure type was compared. This result is expected to predict total maintenance costs in consideration of the maintenance cycle.
Recently the study related to life cycle cost analysis of railway structure consisted of a complex is proceeded covering several range, which is considering the methodology of efficiency and rationalization for maintenance and analysing long-time behavior of the structure of looking at standpoint from asset management and safety. But LCCA(life cycle cost analysis) of railway structure was almost impossible as there were not anything datum for maintenance plan, such as maintenance periods related to each of components(painting and corrosion of steel, and cracking of elements, etc)and maintenance proportion, despite of its 100-year history. According, for collecting data related to railway truss bridge, bridge record cards and testing safety papers, and researching question, etc are surveyed and classified for LCC Analysis. Especially, LCC assessment on the side of assets-maintenance considering about initial cost, maintenance cost, and indirect cost is constructed. Maintenance period and complementary measure rate are very important in maintenance. To decide maintenance period, Baysian updating method is applied.

In this study, a bridge maintenance system is developed to generate performance-based optimum maintenance strategy by considering the life-cycle cost. A multi-objective combinatorial optimization problem is formulated to generate a tradeoff maintenance scenarios which satisfies the balance among the conflicting objectives such as the performance and cost during the bridge lifetime and a genetic algorithm is applied to the system. By using the developed program, this study proposes a process of optimum maintenance scenario applying to the steel girder bridge of national road. The developed system improves the current methods of establishing the bridge maintenance strategy and can be utilized as an efficient tool to provide the optimum bridge maintenance scenario corresponding to the various constraints and requirements of bridge agency.

In this paper, a new method for the bridge maintenance is proposed to overcome the limit of the existing methods and to implement the preventive bridge maintenance system. The proposed method can establish the lifetime optimum maintenance strategy of the deteriorating bridges considering the life-cycle performance as well as the life-cycle cost. The lifetime performance of the deteriorating bridges is evaluated by the safety index based on the structural reliability and the condition index detailing the condition state. The life-cycle cost is estimated by considering not only the direct maintenance cost but also the user and failure cost. The genetic algorithm is applied to generate a set of maintenance scenarios which is the multi-objective combinatorial optimization problem related to the life-cycle cost and performance. The study examined the proposed method by establishing a maintenance strategy for the existing bridge and its advantages. The result shows that the proposed method can be effectively applied to deciding the bridge maintenance strategy.

This paper proposes a practical and realistic method to establish an optimal lifetime maintenance strategy for deteriorating bridges by considering the life-cycle performance as well as the life-cycle cost. The proposed method offers a set of optimal tradeoff maintenance scenarios among other conflicting objectives, such as minimizing cost and maximizing performance. A genetic algorithm is used to generate a set of maintenance scenarios that is a multi-objective combinatorial optimization problem related to the lifetime performance and the life-cycle cost as separate objective functions. A computer program, which generates optimal maintenance scenarios, was developed based on the proposed method using the life-cycle costs and the performance of bridges. The subordinate relation between bridge members has been considered to decide optimal maintenance sequence and a corresponding algorithm has been implemented into the program. The developed program has been used to present a procedure for finding an optimal maintenance scenario for steel-girder bridges on the Korean National Road. Through this bridge maintenance scenario analysis, it is expected that the developed method and program can be effectively used to allow bridge managers an optimal maintenance strategy satisfying various constraints and requirements.

This study predicts Life Cycle Cost of RC Slab bridge case in maintenance and operation level and calculated economic efficiency by the avoidable costs of a bridge. This result of the study can be summarized as follow: (1) LCC analysis model on the bridge case is suggested. (2) Maintenance and operation level of a bridge have been divided, and LCC of the bridge case has been predicted at current maintenance and operation level and required maintenance and operation level. (3) Reduction costs is predicted by LCC of the bridge case, and its economic efficiency is calculated.
The objective is to compare with economic evaluation and to analysis the LCC for prestressed concrete used on rail bridge. A new style concrete bridge is difficult to estimate a history for maintenance cost reliably. For the reason, we introduce a analogical interpretation by similar bridge style in order to estimate a appropriate maintenance profile. The proposed method is usefully supplied to estimating the LCC for bridge which is difficult to determine the maintenance cost.
Nowadays, most of bridge networks are complete or close to completion. The biggest challenge railroad./highway agencies and departments of transportation face is the maintenance of these networks, keeping them safe and serviceable, with limited funds. To maintain the bridges effectively, there is an urgent need to predict their remaining life from a system reliability viewpoint. And, it is necessary to develop the maintenance models based on system reliability concept. In this paper, maintenance models are developed for preventive maintenance and essential maintenance by using system reliability and lifetime distributions. The proposed model is applied to an existing railroad bridge. The optimal maintenance strategy of this bridge is obtained in terms of services life extension and cumulative maintenance cost.

In order to establish an efficient bridge maintenance strategy, the future performance of a bridge must be estimated by considering the current performance, which allows more rational way of decision-making in the prediction model with higher accuracy. However, personnel-based existing maintenance may result in enormous maintenance costs since it is difficult for a bridge administrator to estimate the bridge performance exactly at a targeting management level, thereby disrupting a rational decision making for bridge maintenance. Therefore, in this work, we developed a representative performance prediction model for each bridge element considering uncertainty using domestic bridge inspection data, and proposed a bayesian updating method that can apply the developed model to actual maintenance bridge with higher accuracy. Also, the feasibility analysis based on calculation of maintenance cost for monitoring maintenance scenario case is performed to propose advantages of the Bayesian-updating-driven preventive maintenance in terms of the cost efficiency in contrast to the conventional periodic maintenance.
