Positioning and Brand Extension Strategies of Hyundai Genesis in the Domestic and North-American Markets (한국 및 북미시장에서 제네시스의 포지셔닝과 상표확장 전략)

  • The present study analyzes Hyundai Genesis' introduction in the domestic and the North-American markets in terms of positioning and brand extension strategies in each market. Genesis was positioned to 'A domestic luxury car that looks like a foreign premium brand' in the domestic market and was positioned to 'Quality of luxury car for a price of near-luxury car' in the North-American market. Hyundai brand was extended to Genesis in the North-American Market, but not in the domestic market. The present study examines the backgrounds that resulted in different position concepts in the markets and analyzed the marketing tactics to realize the position concepts. Specifically, we discussed the brand extension strategy that was adopted in the North-American market in terms of its pros and cons. The present study noticed a need for modifying and/or strengthening positioning strategies to face competitive environments and suggests an issue to be discussed with respect to the changes in the positioning strategies.

The Effect of on-line and off-line Corporate Reputation, Credibility and the Similarity of Business Area on the Consumer's Attitude toward the Clothing Products with Brand (온라인.오프라인 기업(企業)의 명성(名聲), 신뢰성(信賴性), 사업영역(事業領域) 유사성(類似性)이 신규(新規) 의류(衣類)브랜드 태도(態度)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • This study is, to the special company with corporate brand, to investigate the effect of its reputation, credibility and the similarity of business area on consumer's attitude toward its clothing products. It is another topic of the study to reveal statistical significance in comsumer's attitude when naming new product with two different brand strategy. The major findings of this study can be summarized as follows. First, there was positive relationship between corporate reputation and consumer's attitude toward new brand and also between corporate credibility and consumer's that. Second, corporate credibility is proven to be grown in proportion to company's reputation. In other words, a corporate credibility is grown with a corporate reputation. Third, the influence of similarity or fitness of business area has a positive effect on a attitude toward new brand. The case of use the new brand name, the variable had low effect on attitude toward new brand, comparing to the case of use the existing brand name but seems to be statistically significant. Fourth, comparing to the inclination toward company's product based on brand name, strategy of supporting brand extension is more effective than that of new brand name on evaluating company's reputation, credibility and the similarity of business area. Fifth, the similarity of business area and the interaction of brand name on the basis of the strategy of use the existing brand name(;brand extension strategy) and new one have significant effect on the inclination to a brand. When participating a new business, it is more effective that a company is extending its business where the similarity of business area is growing. For the case of low similarity, the brand-new strategy is proven to be effective.

A Study on the Developement of Evaluation Indicator for Brand Self-diagnosis of Agricultural Management Organizations (농업경영체의 브랜드 자가진단을 위한 평가지표 개발)

  • This study is to develop evaluation indicator for brand self-diagnosis of agricultural management organizations and analyze importance weight to be used in the field. Self-diagnosis evaluation indicator of brand equity of agricultural management organizations were selected by brainstorming of brand specialists. As a result, six evaluation indicator of communication, organization, responsiveness, clarity, customer relations and quality control were selected. Importance weight of self-diagnosis evaluation indicator of brand equity of agricultural management organizations was analyzed by AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) and Fuzzy AHP. The results of Fuzzy AHP were as follows. Communication for 13.9%, organization for 6.5%, responsiveness for 9.9%, clarity for 7.7%, customer relations for 26.5%, and quality control for 35.5% respectively. In order to enhance brand equity of agricultural management organizations, first, cultivation guidelines should be set up to produce equal quality products among members. Second, quality levels need to be subdivided, brands and packages should be different by level. Third, persistent efforts to find new clients and distributors. Fourth, various efforts to maintain the existing excellent clients and distributors.

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate the effects of brand extension on original brand in mobile market. TAM (Technology Acceptance Model) was used in current research to verify the 'intention to use of mobile service', and 'perceived usefulness', 'perceived ease of use', and the effect of 'extended brand's intention to use' on continuous 'intention to use in original brand' are verified in the process. According to the results, TAM was found to be appropriate to verify the intention to use of mobile service. Also by verifying the effect of decision factor, it is found that perceived ease of use have positive(+) influence on continuous intention to use of original brand. According th this finding, marketers will be able to understand better in performing strategies in mobile service environment.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the latest trend and type of retail space, and the features according to type of retail space of global prestige brand. To do this, literature analysis was executed by related books, articles, and theses. As a result, the latest trend of fashion retail space which has appeared after 2000 is as follows: 1) The differentiation of fashion brand through collaboration between fashion designers and architects, 2) retail space extension strategy, 3) retail space as a cultural space, 4) bold investment for retail space. The type of fashion retail space which has appeared after 2000 is as follows: 1) Spectacular flagship retail space of monumental scale, 2) global type retail space which exhibits common features through the whole world, 3) localization retail space which shows different features according to store location 4) innovative retail space out of traditional store form. The result of this study will be utilized when a domestic fashion brand establishes global marketing strategy of retail space.

A Study on the Brand Extension of Digital Product : Focused on Consumer's Attachment to Product (디지털 제품의 브랜드 확장에 관한 연구 : 소비자의 제품 애착을 중심으로)

  • With science and technology getting more and more advanced, the scope of digital product is expanding and the new products continuously are introduced on the market. On the basis of consumers' attachment to products, we investigated the consumers' behaviors towards the product when a digital product is extended. As a result of an empirical analysis, it turned out that a consumer tended to have higher trust and a positive emotion about relevant goods if he or she had a strong attachment to digital products. However, even though one had a strong attachment to digital products, the emotion about the corresponding brands did not necessarily appeared to be positive. In the event that a brand of digital products was extended to other new products, only the trust in the brand exerted significant influence on the consumers' behaviors towards the extended products. Finally, this study suggests some theoretical and managerial implications for effective strategies in response to customers' attachment to digital product.

  • The purpose of this study examines the influence of brand concepts(symbolic vs. functional) and thinking styles(holistic vs. analytic) on the attitude toward extension ads.(rational/emotional) and product. The moderating effect of thinking styles was also tested. The results of this study are as follows: I) Brand concepts of parent brand had a significant effect on the attitude toward extension ads.(symbolic: no differences between rational and emotional ads., functional: rational ads. > emotional ads.) and extension product. 2) Thinking styles of consumers also did.(holistic: no differences between rational and emotional ads., analytic: rational > emotional ads.) and extension product. 3) The moderating effect of thinking styles was(rational ads.: symbolicfunctional).

  • In 1997 the Asian Foreign Currency Crisis hit Korean shores. In its wake, Korean consumers demanded cost-saving solutions which will increase both the use-life and the fuel efficiency their vehicles. Bullsoneshot's effects include increases in gas mileage as well as cleaner cylinders, intakes and exhaust valves, the product was welcomed by an explosive demand from people driving older cars in an adverse economy. The history of Bullsone can be categorized as two major stages. The First stage is lunching era of "Bullone Shot" following competitor brand. The second stage is extension stage of brand and line based on Bullsone's positive brand equity. Mr. Hyun Woo Shin, formal CEO of OXY inc. and also formal vice president of OCI (Oriental Chemical Industries) take charge of New CEO of Bullsone. He energetically push the Bullsone's family brands and got a desirable results. He also setup ambitious goal : reach 100bn KRW in gross sales within 3 years. "Ripping itself free from 30~40 bn KRW sales range in which the company has stagnated in the last 10 years, Bullsone intends to be aggressive enough in marketing to reach 150 bn KRW in sales in 2013, and reach 700 bn KRW by 2018." This is the goal iterated by Bullsone's top executive team.
