A branch-line hybrid using microstrip artificial transmission lines(ATLs) with slotted-triangular patches is proposed. The proposed artificial transmission line is compact in structure as well as easy to adjust the characteristic impedance and electrical length of equivalent transmission line by changing the slot's parameters; hence, it is useful for miniaturizing conventional transmission lines. The designed branch-line hybrid, because of the use of the right angled isosceles triangular shaped artificial transmission lines as building blocks, has no useless empty space, and hence optimally miniaturized. A fabricated 3 dB branch-line hybrid shows the coupling variation of ${\pm}0.5$ dB and the phase difference between two output ports of $91^{\circ}{\pm}4^{\circ}$ within 15 % bandwidth at 2.45 GHz center frequency. The size of proposed branch-line hybrid is only 38% of the conventional branch-line hybrid.

Precise branch predictor has a profound impact on system performance in modern processor architectures. Recent works show that prediction latency as well as prediction accuracy has a critical impact on overall system performance as well. However, prediction latency tends to be overlooked. In this paper, we propose Branch Pre-Prediction policy to tolerate branch prediction latency. The proposed solution allows that branch predictor can proceed its prediction without any information from the fetch engine, separating the prediction engine from fetch stage. In addition, we propose newly modified BTE structure to support our solution. The simulation result shows that proposed solution can hide most prediction latency with still providing the same level of prediction accuracy. Furthermore, the proposed solution shows even better performance than the ideal case, that is the predictor which always takes a single cycle prediction latency. In our experiments, IPC improvement is up to 11.92% and 5.15% in average, compared to conventional predictor system.

Porous ceramics are used in various industrial applications based on their physical properties, including isolation, storage, and thermal barrier properties. However, traditional manufacturing environments require additional steps to control artificial pores and limit deformities, because they rely on limited molding methods. To overcome this drawback, many studies have recently focused on fabricating porous structures using additive manufacturing techniques. In particular, the binder jet technology enables high porosity and various types of designs, and avoids the limitations of existing manufacturing processes. In this study, we investigated process optimization for manufacturing porous ceramic filters using the binder jet technology. In binder jet technology, the flowability of the powder used as the base material is an important factor, as well as compatibility with the binder in the process and for the final print. Flow agents and secondary binders were used to optimize the flowability and compatibility of the powders. In addition, the effects of the amount of added glass frit, and changes in sintering temperature on the microstructure, porosity and mechanical properties of the final printed product were investigated.

Recent advances in deep neural networks (DNNs) have greatly improved the accuracy and universality of various intelligent applications, at the expense of increasing model size and computational demand. Since the resources of end devices are often too limited to deploy a complete DNN model, offloading DNN inference tasks to cloud servers is a common approach to meet this gap. However, due to the limited bandwidth of WAN and the long distance between end devices and cloud servers, this approach may lead to significant data transmission latency. Therefore, device-edge collaborative inference has emerged as a promising paradigm to accelerate the execution of DNN inference tasks where DNN models are partitioned to be sequentially executed in both end devices and edge servers. Nevertheless, collaborative inference in heterogeneous edge environments with multiple edge servers, end devices and DNN tasks has been overlooked in previous research. To fill this gap, we investigate the optimization problem of collaborative inference in a heterogeneous system and propose a scheme CIS, i.e., collaborative inference scheme, which jointly combines DNN partition, task offloading and scheduling to reduce the average weighted inference latency. CIS decomposes the problem into three parts to achieve the optimal average weighted inference latency. In addition, we build a prototype that implements CIS and conducts extensive experiments to demonstrate the scheme's effectiveness and efficiency. Experiments show that CIS reduces 29% to 71% on the average weighted inference latency compared to the other four existing schemes.
Background: Despite the relatively high mortality rates in the chronic heart failure model induced by coronary artery ligation are relatively high, this model has been a subject of continuos research because of its clinical correlation. Chronic heart failure model of large-sized animals is very useful to analyse mechanical or biological effects on circulatory system which is difficult in small-sized animals. The purpose of this study is to establish the heart failure model by coronary artery ligation in sheep. Material and Method: Among 9 Corridale sheep, the homonymous artery and the diagonal branch were ligated simultaneously in 2 sheep and remaining 7 sheep were assigned to successive ligation of both arteries at an interval of 1 hour. Both coronary arteries were ligated from the point 40% proximal to the apex of the heart. Hemodynamic and echocardiographic parameters were analyzed before the ligation of the coronary artery, after the ligation of the homonymous artery, and after additional ligation of the diagonal branch. The experimental animals were sacrificed after 2 or 3 months of growth and histopathologic studies were performed Result: Immediate postoperative death occurred in the 2 sheep that had received simultaneous ligation of the homonymous artery and diagonal branch. On the other hand, all the 7 sheep that were lifated in succession were survived up to 3 months. Arterial pressure was sifnificantly decreased immediately after ligation of the homonymous artery(p<0.05), and the cardiac output was decreased and pulmonary capillary wedge pressure was increased after further ligation of the diagonal branch(p<0.05). Central venous pressure, pulmonary artery pressure, pulmonary capillary wedge pressure, left ventricular end-diastolic dimension and end-systolic dimension were markedly increased 3 months after ligation of coronary arteries. Anteroseptal akinesia or dyskinesia was developed after the ligation of coronary arteries. Histopathologic study revealed we]1-demarcated ischemic area of fibrosis. Conclusion: Using methods of successive ligation of the homonymous artery and diagonal branch, chronic heart failure model could be reliably established in sheep.
Purpose: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) in early gastric cancer causes an artificial gastric ulcer and local inflammation that has a negative intraprocedural impact on additional laparoscopic gastrectomy in patients with noncurative ESD. In this study, we analyzed the effect of ESD on short-term surgical outcomes and evaluated the risk factors. Materials and Methods: From January 2003 to January 2013, 1,704 patients of the National Cancer Center underwent laparoscopic gastrectomy with lymph node dissection because of preoperative stage Ia or Ib gastric cancer. They were divided into 2 groups: (1) with preoperative ESD or (2) without preoperative ESD. Clinicopathologic factors and short-term surgical outcomes were retrospectively evaluated along with risk factors such as preoperative ESD. Results: Several characteristics differed between patients who underwent ESD-surgery (n=199) or surgery alone (n=1,505). The mean interval from the ESD procedure to the operation was 43.03 days. Estimated blood loss, open conversion rate, mean operation time, and length of hospital stay were not different between the 2 groups. Postoperative complications occurred in 23 patients (11.56%) in the ESD-surgery group and in 189 patients (12.56%) in the surgery-only group, and 3 deaths occurred among patients with complications (1 patient [ESD-surgery group] vs. 2 patients [surgery-only group]; P=0.688). A history of ESD was not significantly associated with postoperative complications (P=0.688). Multivariate analysis showed that male sex (P=0.008) and laparoscopic total or proximal gastrectomy (P=0.000) were independently associated with postoperative complications. Conclusions: ESD did not affect short-term surgical outcomes during and after an additional laparoscopic gastrectomy.
The paper studies spark plasma sintering (SPS) of industrially used UO2-based fuel containing integral fuel burnable absorber (IFBA) of neutrons Gd2O3. Densification dynamics of pristine UO2 powder and the one added with 2 and 8 wt% of Gd2O3 under ultrasonication in liquid has been studied under SPS conditions at 1050, 1250, and 1450 ℃. Effect of sintering temperature on phase composition as well as on O/U stoichiometry has been investigated for UO2 SPS ceramics. Sintering of uranium dioxide added with Gd2O3 yields solid solution (U,Gd)O2, which is isostructural to UO2. SEM with EDX and metallography were implemented to analyze the microstructure of the obtained UO2 ceramics and composite UO2-Gd2O3 one, particularly, open porosity, defects, and Gd2O3 distribution were studied. Microhardness, compressive strength and density were shown to reduce after addition of Gd2O3. Obtained results prove the hypothesis on formation of stable pores in the system of UO2-Gd2O3 due to Kirkendall effect that reduces sintering efficiency. The paper expands fundamental knowledge on pros and cons of fuel fabrication with IFBA using SPS technology.

We examined 165 unchlorinated natural drinking water samples for the presence of E. coli group resistant to antimicrobial agent and chlorine in nothern Gyeongbuk area in 2007. Among 165 water samples, 21 samples(12.7%) were positive to total coliforms and Six genus, 16 strains of E. coli groups isolated from 16 samples showed resistance against more than one antimicrobial agent such as Ampicillin, Tetracycline and Chloroamphenicol. Among 16 strains, 14 strains resistant to Ampicillin, 9 strains resistant to Tetracycline and one strain resistant to Chloroampenicol. but all 16 strains did not contain any integron gene cassettes, which contribute to the spread of antimicrobial resistance alleles by lateral gene transfer of gene cassettes in a variety of enteric bacteria. The minimal inhibitory concentration(MIC) of 14 strains which showed resistant to Ampicillin was between $12{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ and $32{\mu}g/m{\ell}$, Nine strains resistant to Tetracycline showed between $32{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ and $128{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ and one strain resistant to Chloroampenicol showed $128{\mu}g/m{\ell}$. The chlorine sensitivity of 16 strains isolated from unchlorinated natural water sample did not show any difference among strains by the concentration of initial free chlorine and elapsed time after chlorine treatment. All 16 strains were killed after 1hr. exposure at $0.2mg/m{\ell}$ of free chlorine per liter or 30minutes exposure at $0.4mg/m{\ell}$ of free chlorine per liter.

Background: Shift work and/or sleep quality may affect health. We investigated whether shift work and sleep quality, separately and jointly, were associated with abnormal levels of triglycerides, total cholesterol (TC), and low-and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in 360 police officers (27.5% women). Methods: Triglycerides, TC, and high-density lipoprotein were analyzed on the Abbott Architect; low-density lipoprotein was calculated. Shift work was assessed using City of Buffalo payroll work history records. Sleep quality (good, ${\leq}5$; intermediate, 6-8; poor, ${\geq}9$) was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index questionnaire. A shift work + sleep quality variable was created: day plus good sleep; day plus poor sleep; afternoon/night plus good; and poor sleep quality. Mean values of lipid biomarkers were compared across categories of the exposures using analysis of variance/analysis of covariance. Results: Shift work was not significantly associated with lipids. However, as sleep quality worsened, mean levels of triglycerides and TC gradually increased but only among female officers (age- and race-adjusted p = 0.013 and 0.030, respectively). Age significantly modified the association between sleep quality and TC. Among officers ${\geq}40$ years old, those reporting poor sleep quality had a significantly higher mean level of TC ($202.9{\pm}3.7mg/dL$) compared with those reporting good sleep quality ($190.6{\pm}4.0mg/dL$) (gender- and race-adjusted p = 0.010). Female officers who worked the day shift and also reported good sleep quality had the lowest mean level of TC compared with women in the other three categories (p = 0.014). Conclusion: Sleep quality and its combined influence with shift work may play a role in the alteration of some lipid measures.

Background: Police officers' stress perception, frequency of stressful events (stressors), and police work characteristics may contribute to poor sleep quality through different mechanisms. Methods: We investigated associations of stress severity (measured by stress rating score) and frequency of stressors with sleep quality and examined the influence of police work characteristics including workload, police rank, prior military experience, and shift work on the associations. Participants were 356 police officers (256 men and 100 women) enrolled in the Buffalo Cardio-Metabolic Occupational Police Stress Study from 2004 to 2009. A mean stress rating score and mean frequency of stressors occurring in the past month were computed for each participant from the Spielberger Police Stress Survey data. Sleep quality was assessed using the global score derived from the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index survey. Linear associations of the stress rating score and frequency of stressors with sleep quality (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index global score) were tested. Age, sex, race/ethnicity, and smoking status were selected as potential confounders. Results: The stress rating score was positively and independently associated with poor sleep quality (${\beta}=0.17$, p = 0.002). Only workload significantly modified this association (${\beta}=0.23$, p = 0.001 for high workload group; p-interaction = 0.109). The frequency of stressors was positively and independently associated with poor sleep quality (${\beta}=0.13$, p = 0.025). Only police rank significantly modified the association (${\beta}=0.007$, p = 0.004 for detectives/other executives; p-interaction = 0.076). Conclusion: Both police officers' perception of stress severity and the frequency of stressors are associated with poor sleep quality. Stress coping or sleep promotion regimens may be more beneficial among police officers reporting high workloads.
