In brake systems, a proportioning valve(P. V), which reduces the brake line pressure on each wheel cylinder for the anti-locking of rear wheels, is closely related to the safety of vehicles. However, it is impossible for current P. V. s to completely control brake line pressure because, mechanically, it is an open loop control system. In this paper we describe an electronic brake force distribution system using a direct adaptive fuzzy controller in order to completely control brake line pressure using a closed loop control system. The objective of the electronic brake force distribution system is to change the cut-in-pressure and the valve slop of the P. V in order to obtain better performance of the brake system than with mechanical systems.
Squeal of disk brake is a noise and self excited vibration with frequency range of $1{\sim}10Khz$ cause by the friction force between the disk and the pad of the automobile. Passengers in a cehicle feel uncomfortable. In this paper modal analysis of wheel brake system was performed in order to prediction of squeal phenomenon. It was shown that the prediction of system instability is possible by FEM. finite element model of that brake system was made. Some parts of a real brake was selected and modeled. The normal mode analysis method performs analyses of each brake system component. Experiment of modal analysis was performed for each brake components and experimental results were compared with analytical result from FEM.
An integrated front steering system and front brake system (FSFB) is developed to improve the stability and controllability of an SUV. The FSFB simultaneously controls the additional steering angle and front brake pressure. An active front steering system (AFS) and an active front brake system (AFB) are designed for comparison. The results show that the FSFB enhances the lateral stability and controllability regardless of road and running conditions compared to the AFS and AFB. As a result, the yaw rate of the SUV tracks the reference yaw rate, and the side slip angle decreases. In addition, brake pressure control is more effective than steering angle control in improving the stability and steerability of the SUV on a slippery road. However, this deteriorates comfort on dry or wet asphalt.
In general, the braking system of high speed train has an important role for the safety of the train. To stop safely the train at its pre-decided position, it is necessary to combine properly the various brakes. Korean high speed train (HSR 350x) has adopted a combined electric and mechanic (friction) braking system. Electric brakes are consist of rheostatic brake, regenerative brake and eddy current brake and mechanical brakes are composed of disc brake, wheel disc brake and tread brake. In this paper, the measuring method that can take a measurement of the braking forces for disc brake and wheel disc brake has been suggested and we have verified that this method is valid through on-line test of HSR 350x.
ABS(Anti-skid Brake System) had been developed on purpose of most effect at breaking in limited runway. An aircraft has a large amount of kinetic energy on landing. When the brakes are applied, the kinetic energy of the aircraft is dissipated as heat energy in the brake disks between the tire and the ground. The optimum value of the slip during braking is the value at the maximum coefficient of friction. An anti-skid system should maintain the brake torque at a level corresponding to this optimum value of slip. This system is electric control system for brake control valve at effective control to prevent slip and wheel speed or speed ratio. In this study we measured the thickness of the carbon disk before and after to find its wear and it shows that carbon disk brake has higher stiffness and strength than metal disk at high temperature. In addition, thermal structural stability and appropriate frictional coefficient of the carbon disk brake prove its possible substitution of metal disk brake.
Squeal, a kind of self-excited vibration, is generated by the friction between the disc and the friction materials. It occurs at the ending stage of the braking process, and radiates and audible frequency range of 1 kHz to 10 kHz. Squeal is generated from unstability because of the coupling between the translation and rotation of the system. This instability is caused by the follower force and follower force is normal component of the friction force. In this paper modal analysis of wheel brake system was performed in order to predict the squeal phenomenon. It was shown that the prediction of system instability is possible by FEM. A finite element model of that brake system was made. Some parts of a real brake was selected and modeled. Modal analysis method performs analyses of each brake system component. Experimental modal analysis was performed for each brake components and experimental results were compared with analytical results from FEM. To predict the dynamic unstability of a whole system, the complex eigenvalue analysis for assembly modeling of components confirmed by modal analysis is performed. The finite element models of the disk brake assembly have been constructed, and the squeal noise problems have been solved by complex eigenvalue analysis. The complex eigenvalue analysis results compared with real train test.
This paper presents an anti-lock braking system for commercial vehicles with pneumatic brake system by using slip ratio. By virtue of system reliability, most commercial vehicles adopt pneumatic brake system. However, pneumatic brake systems control is more difficult than hydraulic systems due to a longer time delay and the system nonlinearity. One of the major factors in generating braking forces is the wheel slip ratio. Accordingly, the proposed ABS strategy employs the slip ratio threshold-based valve on/off control. This threshold-based algorithm is simple but effective to control the pneumatic brake systems. The control performance of the proposed algorithm has been validated via simulation studies using MATLAB/Simulink and Trucksim. The results show ABS by using slip ratio reduces the braking distance and improves vehicle control.
본 논문에서는 EMB(Electro-Magnetic Brake)용 BLAC 전동기의 제어기를 개발하였다.
This study presents model synthesis and performance investigation of a new brake system using electro-rheological(ER) fluids. Field-dependent Bingham properties characterized by non-zero yield stresses of the ER fluids are experimentally distilled. These properties are then incorporated with the governing equation of the proposed brake system which features design simplicity, fast response and salient controllability. After analyzing system performance with respect to design parameters such as electrode gap and length, an appropriate size of the brake is designed and fabricated. Both simulation and experimental works are undertaken in order to determine the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed brake system. The system performances are justified by evaluating field-dependent braking torques as well as braking times.

For the next generation railway brake system, a disc brake which can be operated directly and electrically is strongly expected. This paper deals with newly developed disc brake actuator using giant magnetostrictive materials(GMM) which can be integrated with disc brake. Regarding the brake system performance, a better delay time was also attained which can be integrated with disc brake. Regarding the brake system performance, a better delay time was also attained which will contribute to shorten a stopping distance.
