This research measures EEG signals which are generating on head skin and extracts brain concentration level related with brain activity. We develop concentration wireless transmission system for controlling hardware by using this signal. Two channels are used for measuring EEG signal on front head and Biopac system with MP-100 and EEG100C was used for measuring EEG signal, amplifying and filtering the signal. LabView 8.5 was also used for FFT transformation, frequency and spectrum analysis of the measure EEG signal. As a result, ${\alpha}$ wave, ${\beta}$ wave, ${\theta}$ wave and ${\delta}$ wave were classified. we extracted the concentration index by adapting concentration extraction algorithm. This concentration index was transferred into lego automobile device by wireless module and applied for BCI application.
This research measures EEG signals which are generating on head skin and extracts brain concentration level related with brain activity. We have developed concentration wireless transmission system by displaying this EEG signal on PDA mobile device. The front head was used for measuring EEG signal and INA128 with TL084 and analog elements was used for measuring EEG signal, amplifying and filtering the signal. Measured analog EEG signals changed into digital signals by using ADC of PIC24FJ192 with 10bit resolution and 500Ks/s sampling rate. So The changed digital signals have transmitted to the PDA by using bluetooth. LabView 8.5 was also used for FFT transformation, frequency and spectrum analysis of the transferred EEG signal. As a result, $\alpha$ wave, $\beta$ wave, $\theta$ wave and $\delta$ wave were classified. we extracted the concentration index by adapting concentration extraction algorithm. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effects of gradually increasing treadmill inclination on the electroencephalogram (EEG) of stroke patients during gait training. Methods: Three stroke patients who were diagnosed with stroke within six months and capable of walking on a treadmill were selected as subjects. EEG electrodes were attached at Fp1, Fp2, F3, F4, C3, C4, P3, and P4 positions of the cerebral hemispheres using the International 10-20 system. The intervention involved walking for 2 minutes each at 0 degrees, 15 degrees, and 30 degrees inclination on the treadmill while focusing on a target point located in front during the treadmill gait training. The EEG (Smartingmobi, Serbia) generated when the treadmill gradient gradually increased was measured. In addition, relative alpha and relative beta waves were visualized through the Brain mapping program in the TeleScan program to assess the changes in each brain region for the activity of the EEG. Results: The relative alpha wave value decreased as treadmill inclination increased, while the relative beta wave value increased. Conclusion: Gradually increasing the inclination during treadmill gait training appears to be a crucial parameter for increasing the brain activity levels of stroke patients.
L-theanine Is an amino acid in green tea and has been known to decrease serotonin and increase norepinephrine in rat brains, and also reported to produce mental relaxation, lower blood pressure and improve learning ability in human beings. But, few studies on these effects for human beings have been conducted so far. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of L-theanine on the release of brain alpha waves known to be related with mental relaxation and concentration. Twenty healthy male volunteers aged 18 to 30 years without any Physical and Psychological diseases were recruited through written advertisement. Alpha power values of EEG as a surrogate marker of mental relaxation and concentration were measured in frontal and occipital regions for 40 minutes after administration of four placebo or test tablets and 20 minute resting period. The same procedure crossed over at 7-day intervals. We analyzed average alpha power values in frontal and occipital regions at 10 minute intervals. Repeated ANOVA revealed that there were significant differences of occipital alpha power values between placebo and test groups with high anxiety (p < 0.05). The mean values at 20,30,40,50 and 60 minute intervals were 0.23, 024, 0.28, 0.25 and 0.34 in placebo, respectively and 0.23, 0.29, 0.40, 0.34, and 0.45 in test, respectively. But there were no significant differences of frontal and occipital alpha power values between placebo and test groups with low anxiety (p > 0.05) . The results of this study suggest that L-theanine containing tablets promote the release of alpha waves related to mental relaxation and concentration in young adult males.
This study of a music therapy program for the 18 subjects residing in Jeollanam-do province was conducted two times per week during 4 months totalling 17 times in order to evaluate the reduction of the characteristics of patients suffering from stress disorder patients such as depression, and anxiety, Though the experiment for non-symmetric level the concentration and appearance of Alpha wave were determine to be stable but the findings from non-symmetric level according to the left-right brain activity were not significant for T-test, though its effective intermission of music therapy due to variation of the mean values was demonstrated, and the variation of the Alpha wave appearance rate was also significant for the statistics of the T-test for the effectiveness of the music therapy. And for the reduction of depression, emotion, and state-trait anxiety between groups divided into the control group and the experiment, pre-measurement and post-measurement comparisons through psychological tess, validated the effectiveness of music therapy for Posttraumatic stress disorder patients. First of all, this study was conducted in the situation of scarce study cases and program developments for the efficacy of music therapy for the patients suffering from Posttraumatic stress disorders without precedent studies of scientific identification through brain wave measurement. Because this study is insightful in the context of validating the efficacy of musical treatment, we expect that these kinds of studises will be continued.
This study aimed to investigate the effect of changes in pain on the autonomic nervous system and brain waves after inducing delayed-onset muscle soreness(DOMS). Based on voluntary participation, 28 participants with induced-DOMS were randomly divided into control(non-treatment, n=14) and experiment groups(transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) and kinesio taping, n=14). Intervention was performed from first day to fifth days after the onset of DOMS. Measurements were performed using the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS), Heart Rate Variability(HRV), and brain wave before DOMS induction, 24 hours after, fifth day after, and eighth day after. According to the study results, when DOMS occurred, the activity of the sympathetic nervous system was increased or the activity of the parasympathetic nervous system was suppressed, and reduction of pain due to interventions showed the opposite activity. A decreased in alpha was seen during pain, but was not significant. These results will help develop and study pain management and treatment strategies.
To know the effect of smells from eco-friend and existing interior construction materials to human response, EEG of subjects' were measured. EEG signals were measured from 8 electrodes according to the international 10-20 system (Fp1, Fp2, F3, F4, Fc3, Fc4, P3, P4) from 10 healthy subjects in seven odor construction material. Followings are results. When stimuli of smell were suggested, non-stimuli pattern of ${\alpha}$-wave is largely in right occipitallobe part and rare in frontallobe part respectively. In case of eco-friend materials' smell, there is a activation of EEG in right occipitallobe part for every stimuli. But in case of eco-friend paint and Hwang-to, ${\alpha}$-wave is appeared in most part of brain even in frontallobe part. Especially for wet cedar case, activation of brain is very positive in right occipitallobe part and in frontallobe part. When comparing the normalized sensitivity of ${\beta}$-wave which appears in negative response, the preference ratio order is like this. Normal paint ${\rightarrow}$ MDF ${\rightarrow}$ Eco-friend paint ${\rightarrow}$ Gypsum board ${\rightarrow}$ Cedar ${\rightarrow}$ Wet cedar ${\rightarrow}$ Hwang-to.
Purpose: Breathing can be controlled either unconsciously or consciously. In Asian countries, various conscious breathing-control techniques have been practiced for many years to promote health and wellbeing. However, the exact mechanism underlying these techniques has not yet been established. The purpose of this study is to explore the physiological mechanism explaining how conscious breathing control could affect the autonomic nervous system, brain activity, and mental changes. Methods: The coupling phenomenon among breathing rhythm, heart rate variability, and brain waves was explored theoretically based on the research hypothesis and a review of the literature. Results: Respiratory sinus arrhythmia is a well-known phenomenon in which heart rate changes to become synchronized with breathing: inhalation increases heart rate and exhalation decreases it. HRV BFB training depends on conscious breathing control. During coherent sinusoidal heart rate changes, brain ${\alpha}$ waves could be enhanced. An increase in ${\alpha}$ waves was also found and the synchronicity between heart beat rhythm and brain wave became strengthened during meditation. Conclusion: In addition to the effect of emotion on breathing patterns, conscious breathing could change heart beat rhythms and brainwaves, and subsequently affect emotional status.

In this study, we extracted sound waves that can improve psychological skills for volleyball players, investigated the changes that the application training of the extracted sound waves has on the brain waves of volleyball players, and the changes in brain waves are the psychological of volleyball players. The purpose of the research is to investigate the effect on technology. In order to achieve this purpose of the study, a total of 10 people from the experimental group and 10 from the control group were selected as the research subjects of university volleyball players with more than 5 years of volleyball experience. The experimental procedure was for the experimental group to listen to sound waves for more than 30 minutes at least 4 times a week for 12 weeks, and brain waves were measured 3 times before, during, and after. In addition, psychological skills were measured twice before and after. The measured data were subjected to t-test and two-way variance repeated measures analysis using SPSS 20.0. The results obtained through this process are as follows. First, as a result of analyzing the differences in psychological skills according to sound wave application training, there were statistically significant differences in goal setting and attention factors of the experimental group. Second, as a result of repeated measurement variance analysis at each time point according to the application of the sound wave application training program, it was found that alpha waves had a synergistic effect at the statistical significance level in the experimental group. Third, as a result of repeated measurement variance analysis at each time point according to the application of the sound wave application training program, it was found that the beta wave had a synergistic effect at the statistical significance level in the experimental group.
The study is one of fundamental researches for the development of future smart clothing and textile products with blocking properties from electromagnetic waves by analyzing human physical symptoms in using electromagnetic products in such an environments. Among various textiles in the experiment, nano silver has shown the best blocking performance from electromagnetic waves, which decreases depending on the distance. The power spectrum distribution and the incidence of electroencephalogram between blocking materials and aural stimuli has shown that, ${\beta}$, wave appeared to be active in all channels except for $T_4$, whereas all waves appeared with processed materials and especially with nano silver silk(NSS), ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$, ${\theta}$, ${\gamma}$ waves appeared active in all regions. As for the brain mapping of ${\alpha}$ wave according to time, there found a strong activity in $P_3$, $P_4$ of the parietal lobe, with all materials on all time regions. With silk nylon metal(SNM) and NSS, it appeared strong in $F_3$, $F_4$ as well. As for ${\beta}$, wave, the activity appeared strong in frontal lobe before 7min. 30sec, where it tends to diminish abruptly in 7min. 30sec. to 13min. 30sec. region. After 13min., it regained gradually. With NSS, it appeared strong in all areas except for the farthest $T_4$. The appearance of ${\nu}$ wave can be deduced as it can affect human body with its toxic property while the silver particles become nano-sized. Therefore, the study conducted with human participants requires a proper particle size of it which would not penetrate cellular tissues and a proper binder and binding treatment for it, to prevent the physical fatigues and the potential diseases. However, it is highly required for back-up researches to verify various aspects in applying nano silver to textile products.
