FBAR 소자의 Bragg 반사층의 $SiO_2$ 박막 특성에 관한 연구 (Structure characteristics of $SiO_2$ thin film of the FBAR Bragg reflector)

  • In this study, $SiO_2$ thin film was deposited on variable conditions of the RF power and working pressure by RF magnetron sputtering to apply to the Bragg reflector of the SMR type FBAR device. A crystal orientation and microstructure of $SiO_2$ thin film was studied by using the XRD, AFM and SEM. The best condition was obtained through analyzing the structural characteristics of thin film. Finally, FBAR device was fabricated with applying the best condition of $SiO_2$ thin film and the resonant characteristics was investigated by network analyzer to verify application possibility as a efficient device.

Electroabsorption modulator-integrated distributed Bragg reflector laser diode for C-band WDM-based networks

  • We report an electroabsorption modulator (EAM)-integrated distributed Bragg reflector laser diode (DBR-LD) capable of supporting a high data rate and a wide wavelength tuning. The DBR-LD contains two tuning elements, plasma and heater tunings, both of which are implemented in the DBR section, which have blue-shift and red-shift in the Bragg wavelength through a current injection, respectively. The light created from the DBR-LD is intensity-modulated through the EAM voltage, which is integrated monolithically with the DBRLD using a butt-joint coupling method. The fabricated chip shows a threshold current of approximately 8 mA, tuning range of greater than 30 nm, and static extinction ratio of higher than 20 dB while maintaining a side mode suppression ratio of greater than 40 dB under a window of 1550 nm. To evaluate its modulation properties, the chip was bonded onto a mount including a radiofrequency line and a load resistor showing clear eye openings at data rates of 25 Gb/s nonreturn-to-zero and 50 Gb/s pulse amplitude modulation 4-level, respectively.

Design of a High-efficiency Fiber-to-chip Coupler with Reflectors

  • In this paper, an inversely tapered coupler with Bragg reflectors is reported for the first time. With appropriately positioned reflecting structures, our fiber-to-chip coupler can more efficiently transmit the light from fiber to a waveguide in a photonic integrated circuit (PIC). A numerical simulation evaluated the coupler's efficiency with the reflector. Optimized parameters that maximize the efficiency of the coupler are also investigated. Simulation results show that the reflector with appropriate parameters enhances efficiency by up to 7 dB. Likewise, Bragg metal reflectors implemented by the conventional metallization process can also improve efficiency. It is also shown that the proposed reflector enhances the coupling efficiency in a double-tip taper coupler.

  • In this paper, we investigate the optical and structural properties of linear and circular polarization-discriminatory inverters. Circular polarization-discriminatory handedness inverter is realized as a combination of half-wave plate and Bragg reflector and that of linear polarization in verter is realized as a combination of quarter-wave plate, Bragg reflector and quarter-wave plate.

저 전류 및 고 효율로 동작하는 양자 우물 매립형 butt-coupled sampled grating distributed bragg reflector laser diode 설계 및 제작 (Design and Fabrication of butt-coupled(BT) sampled grating(SG) distributed bragg reflector(DBR) laser diode(LD) using planar buried heterosture(PBH))

  • 본 논문에서는 저 전류 및 고 효율로 동작하는 planar buried heterostructure(PBH) 구조로 sampled grating(SG) distributed bragg reflector(DBR) laser diode(LD)를 처음으로 설계하고 제작하였다. 특히 활성층과 도파로층의 높은 결합 효율을 얻기 위해 건식 식각과 습식 식각을 같이 사용하여 결함이 거의 없는 butt-coupling(BT) 계면을 형성하였다. 제작된 파장 가변레이저의 평균 발진 임계전류는 약 12 mA로 ridged waveguide(RWG)와 buried ridge stripe(BRS) 구조로 제작된 결과 보다 두 배 정도 낮게 나타났으며, 광 출력은 200 mA에서 약 20 mW 정도로 RWG 와 BRS 보다 각각 9 mW, 13 mW 더 우수하게 나타났다. 그리고 파장 가변 영역을 측정한 결과 44 nm로 설계결과와 일치하였으며, 최대 파장 가변 영역 안에서 출력 변화 폭이 5 dB 이내로서 RWG 구조의 9 dB보다 출력변화 폭이 4 dB 적게 나타났다. 전체 파장 가변 영역에서 SMSR이 35 dB 이상으로 나타났다.

Investigation of Relationship between Reflection Resonance and Applied Current Density in Bragg Photonic Crystal

  • Relationship between reflection resonance and applied current density in Bragg photonic crystal has been investigated. Multiple bit encodes of distributed Bragg reflector features have been prepared by electrochemical etching of crystalline silicon by using various square wave current densities. Optical characterization of multi-encoding of distributed Bragg reflectors on porous silicon was achieved by Ocean optics 2000 spectrometer for the search of possible applications of multiple bit encoding of distributed Bragg reflectors such as multiplexed assays and chemical sensors. The morphology and cross-sectional structure of multi-encoded distributed Bragg reflectors was investigated by field emission scanning electron micrograph.

  • 먼저 광학 신호를 이용한 다양한 응용 분야에서의 핵심 요소인 광학 빔 조향 성능 향상을 위하여 실리콘 기반 격자 구조의 특성을 해석하였다. 이를 기반으로 높은 방사 효율과 좁은 빔 폭을 얻기 위해서 기존의 격자 구조 방사기에 분배 브래그 반사기(Distributed Bragg Reflector, DBR)를 집적한 구조를 제안한다. 분배 브래그 반사기의 위치에 따른 방사 효율과 방사 각도의 전치 반폭을 분석하고 이를 토대로 최적화 구조를 제안한다. 제안한 격자 구조는 상보형 금속산화 반도체(complementary metal-oxide semiconductor, CMOS) 공정과 호환 가능하며, 최대 방사 효율 87.1% 및 최소 방사 각도의 반치 전폭 $4.68^{\circ}$를 가진다.

광반응 재료가 코팅된 단주기 광섬유격자 기반 자외선센서의 광민감도 향상 연구 (Improving the Sensitivity of an Ultraviolet Optical Sensor Based on a Fiber Bragg Grating by Coating With a Photoresponsive Material)

  • 본 논문은 자외선 광학센서 개발에 관한 것이다. 기존에 반도체 기반 자외선 센서를 대체하기 위해 개발된 단주기 광섬유격자기반 자외선 센서에 대한 측정 민감도를 향상시키기 위한 다양한 장치들을 설계하고 실험을 통해 성능을 확인하였다. 최근 연구를 통해 자외선 흡수에 따라 인장력이 유도되는 아조벤젠 폴리머 재료와 장력에 따른 광섬유격자 특성 변화를 조합하여 새로운 자외선 센서의 개념이 제시되었다. 본 연구에서는 광섬유격자 기반 자외선 센서에서 흡수하지 못하고 통과되는 자외선 잔광을 반사판을 이용해서 다시 반사시켜 센서에서 재흡수되는 원리로 센서의 민감도를 향상시켰다. 본 논문에서는 반사판의 종류를 선정하고 반사판의 곡률반경을 최적화하였다. 또한 기존의 원통형 집광렌즈를 이용한 민감도 향상 기술을 접목 시켜 아무런 장치가 없을 때와 비교해서 약 15배의 성능을 향상시키는 결과를 얻었다. 또한 외부 환경 효과를 줄이기 위한 패키지 모듈을 제작하여 적용하고 그 특성을 분석하였다.

Improved Light Extraction of Organic Light Emitting Diode With Microcavity structure based on $SiO_2/TiO_2/SIO_2$ Multi 1D Layer

  • In this work, we have modeled and fabricated microcavity-enhanced OLED using the 1-dimensional distributed Bragg reflector model (DBR). Results show that simulated spectrum intensity of microcavity OLED increased more than 30% compared to the conventional OLED, by use of DBR with $TiO_2$ and $SiO_2$. Spectral change of green and blue emission was expected to give the deeper color. The experimental design and characterization as well as the matching with simulated properties were performed for microcavity OLED for actual application.

  • A distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) laser and a high speed electroabsorption modulator (EAM) are integrated on the basis of the selective area growth technique. The typical threshold current is 4 to 6 mA, and the side mode suppression ratio is over 40 dB with single mode operation at 1550 nm. The DBR laser exhibits 2.5 to 3.3 mW fiber output power at a laser gain current of 100 mA, and a modulator bias voltage of 0 V. The 3 dB bandwidth is 13 GHz. A 10 Gbps non-return to zero operation with 12 dB extinction ratio is obtained. A four-channel laser array with 100 GHz wavelength spacing was fabricated and its operation at the designed wavelength was confirmed.
