In this experiment, two inclusion levels (15 and 30% of diets, as-fed basis) of brown rice (BR) were tested against a control diet with 0% BR (51% wheat flour of diet). Six female Miniature Poodles (8~9 months age, initial mean body weight of 3.5 kg) were assigned to treatments in replicated $3{\times}3$ Latin square design. Total tract digestibilities of DM, OM, CP, acid hydrolyzed fat and gross energy increased linearly (P<0.05), and observed digestible energy and metabolizable energy values also increased linearly (P<0.001 and P=0.007, respectively) with increasing BR inclusion levels. Wet and dry fecal output decreased linearly (P=0.001) with increasing BR inclusion levels in the diets. Linear (P<0.05) effects was observed in fecal score for dogs fed BR and fecal ammonia concentration increased linearly (P<0.05) in response to increasing BR inclusion level. It seems that the increase in fecal ammonia concentration may be partially related to the decrease in short-chain fatty acid concentration (P<0.01). This study clearly demonstrates that BR improves nutrients digestibility and fecal characteristics of dog.

Two experiments were conducted with growing crossbred Super-Meat ducks at the experimental duck farm of Cantho University to evaluate the effects of reducing the proportion of soybean meal (SBM) in a broken rice (BR)-SBM mixture and providing soya waste (SW) ad libitum (Expt. 1), and reducing the proportion of fish meal (FM) in a BR-FM mixture and supplying ensiled shrimp waste (ESW) ad libitum (Expt.2). Both experiments included five treatments, with three replicates and ten growing ducks per replicate. In Expt.1, the five diets were based on BR and five levels of SBM, with SW offered ad libitum. The control diet (SBM25) consisted of 75% BR and 25% SBM, and the other four treatments included SBM levels of 20% (SBM20), 14% (SBM14), 8% (SBM8) and 0% (SBM0) mixed with BR to 100%, and with SW ad libitum. In Expt. 2, the control diet consisted of 86% BR and 14% FM, and the other dietary treatments had FM levels of 11% (FM11), 8% (FM8), 4% (FM4) and 0% (FM0) mixed with BR, and with ESW ad libitum. In Expt. 1, total intakes of dry matter (DM), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF) and metabolizable energy (ME) were higher for birds given SW (p<0.001). Total CP intake was highest on the SBM20 diet, and lowest on the SBM0 diet (p<0.001). Lower daily gain (DG) was found for the SBM0 diet (p<0.01). Carcass weights were higher on the control treatment, with the lowest values on the SBM0 diet (p<0.001). Gizzard weights were higher on diets with high intakes of SW (p<0.05). In Expt. 2, birds with high intakes of ESW (FM4 and FM0) had lower (p<0.01) daily intakes of DM. The total CP intakes declined (p<0.001) with higher intakes of ESW. The highest DG were for the control and FM11 diets, while the lowest value was for diet FM0 (p<0.001). The poorest feed conversion ratio (FCR) was for the FM0 treatment (p<0.01). Lower weights of carcass and breast muscle were found on the FM0 diet (p<0.001). Feed costs per kg gain were only slightly different between diets. However, the lowest feed cost was for ducks on the SBM0 and FM11 diets in Expt.1 and Expt. 2, respectively.

Several new nickel(II) complexes, [Ni(L)X$_2$ and [Ni(L)$_2$]Cl$_2$ (L = L$_1$, L$_2$ ; X = Cl$^-$, Br$^-$, I$^-$) have been synthesized by reacting NiX$_2$ or NiX$_2$, 6H$_2$O with aminophosphines(L) wherein L is 1,2-bis{(diphenylphosphino)amino}propane(L$_1$) or 1,2-bis{(diphenylphosphino)amino}ethane(L$_2$). These complexes are characterized by the optical spectroscopic methods (UV/Vis, CD, IR, $^1$H-NMR, and $^{31}$P-NMR) together with conductometer and elemental analysis. The complex with I$^-$ is tetrahedral, where the complexes with Cl$^-$ or Br$^-$ are square planar. The complexes, [Ni(L)X$_2$](X = Cl$^-$, Br$^-$) become tetrahedral, as they react with methyl iodide. The Ni(L)X$_2$ complexes underwent solvolysis with a various organic solvents such is EtOH, DMSO, THF and DMF.
Background: Gastric cancer is a common malignant tumor. Our previous study demonstrated inhibitory effects of 3-bromopyruvate (3-BrPA) on pleural mesothelioma. Moreover, we found that 3-BrPA could inhibit human gastric cancer cell line SGC-7901 proliferation in vitro, but whether similar effects might be exerted in vivo have remained unclear. Aim: To investigate the effect of 3-BrPA to human gastric cancer implant tumors in nude mice. Materials and Methods: Animals were randomly divided into 6 groups: 3-BrPA low, medium and high dose groups, PBS negative control group 1 (PH7.4), control group 2 (PH 6.8-7.8) and positive control group receiving 5-FU. The TUNEL method was used to detect apoptosis, and cell morphology and structural changes of tumor tissue were observed under transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Results: 3-BrPA low, medium, high dose group, and 5-FU group, the tumor volume inhibition rates were 34.5%, 40.2%, 45.1%, 47.3%, tumor volume of experimental group compared with 2 PBS groups (p<0.05), with no significant difference between the high dose and 5-FU groups (p>0.05). TEM showed typical characteristics of apoptosis. TUNEL demonstrated apoptosis indices of 28.7%, 39.7%, 48.7% for the 3-BrPA low, medium, high dose groups, 42.2% for the 5-FU group and 5% and 4.3% for the PBS1 (PH7.4) and PBS2 (PH6.8-7.8) groups. Compared each experimental group with 2 negative control groups, there was significant difference (p<0.05); there was no significant difference between 5-FU group and medium dose group (p>0.05), but there was between the 5-FU and high dose groups (p<0.05). Conclusions: This study indicated that 3-BrPA in vivo has strong inhibitory effects on human gastric cancer implant tumors in nude mice.
The predictable outcome of implant placement in the atrophic maxilla with sinus floor elevation procedure(osteotome sinus floor elevation technique and window opening technique) is well documented. Aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of $Br{\aa}nemark$ Ti-Unite implant system and ITI SLA implant system placed in the atrophic posterior maxilla with sinus floor elevation procedure. Eighty patients received placement of $Br{\aa}nemark$ Ti-Unite implants(195 implants) in their atrophic posterior Maxilla with sinus floor elevation procedure(153 osteotome sinus floor elevation technique and 42 window opening procedure). Fifty patients received placement of ITI SLA implants(83 implants) in their atrophic posterior Maxilla with sinus floor elevation procedure(77 osteotome sinus floor elevation technique and 6 window opening procedure). Chart review were taken from each patient. The total failed implants were seven and the total implant survival rate was 96.4% in $Br{\aa}nemark$ Ti-Unite system. The total failed implants were one and the total implant survival rate was 98.8% in ITI SLA system. The implant survival rate with osteotome technique was 96% and 97.6% with window opening in $Br{\aa}nemark$ Ti-Unite system. The implant survival rate with osteotome technique was 98.7% and 100% with window opening. The implant survival rate with osteotome technique was 96% and 97.6% with window opening in ITI SLA system. The results of this evaluation show that the placement of $Br{\aa}nemark$ Ti-Unite system as well as ITI SLA system is a reasonable treatment option for patients with the atrophic posterior maxillary area.

Acne vulgaris is a common chronic skin disorder that affects millions of people. The pathogenesis of acne has been known to be closely associated with the bacterium Propionibacterium acnes. Here we investigated the anti-acne activity of Lactobacillus plantarum K-1 BR by observing the expressions of proinflammatory cytokines, TNF-α, IFN-γ and IL-8, of human keratinocytes. When we applied heat-killed P. acnes to HaCaT cells, the inflammatory cytokines were induced by two- to four-fold compared to the normal control. When the bacteriocin, purified from L. plantarum K-1 BR, was pretreated to the HaCaT cells, the expression levels of TNF-α and IFN-γ stimulated by P. acnes significantly decreased to 25% and 30% of the induced levels, respectively. The IL-8 levels also significantly decreased with the concentration dependent manner of the bacteriocin. These results suggest that the bacteriocin from L. plantarum K-1 BR could reduce the expression levels of inflammatory cytokines and thus may relieve inflammations caused by acne.
Protein phosphorylation is a universal mechanism that regulates cellular activities. The brassinosteroid (BR) signal transduction pathway is a relay of phosphorylation and dephosphorylation cascades. It starts with the BR-induced activation of the membrane receptor kinase brassinosteroid insensitive 1 (BRI1), resulting in the dephosphorylation of transcription factors such as BZR1/BES2 and BZR2/BES1 followed by BR-induced gene expression. Brassinosteroid signal transduction research has progressed rapidly by identifying the phosphorylation/dephosphorylation site(s) of the BR-regulated kinase and phosphatase substrates with a simultaneous pursuit of mutant phenotypes. Autophosphorylation, transphosphorylation, and serine/threonine and tyrosine phosphorylation of the receptor protein kinases BRI1 and BRI1-associated kinase (BAK1) have increased the understanding of the regulatory role of those kinases during physiological and developmental processes in plants. The phosphorylation event initiated by BR is also found in the regulation of receptor-mediated endocytosis and the subsequent degradation of the receptor. However, the basic molecular links of the BR signal transduction pathway are not well understood regarding this phosphorylation/dephosphorylation event. This review summarizes the current state of BR signal transduction research to uncover the phosphorylation/dephosphorylation networks and suggests directions for future research on steroid signal transduction to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the process.
We prepared sikhe (CSE/BR-SH) using corn silk extract and black rice. The pH decreased during saccharification, from pH $5.88{\pm}0.03$ to pH $5.67{\pm}0.02$ after 6 h. However, the brix and reducing sugar contents increased during saccharification of CSE/BR-SH, with the highest levels ($7.6{\pm}0.05$ brix and $4.012{\pm}0.05$ g/l, respectively) being attained at 6 h. Amylase activity increased to 116.12% of control values 1 h after saccharification of CSE/BR-SH, and decreased thereafter. CSE/BR-SH was light purple in color. Soluble phenolic concentration increased markedly from an initial 8.43 g/l to 23.09 g/l at the end of saccharification (6 h), as did DPPH radical-scavenging activity (from an initial 17.3% to 70.98%), Increases were noted in all of ABTS radical-scavenging activity (from 40.25% to 75.32%), reducing power (from 0.241 to 0.682), and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) (from 0.288 to 1.071).
Daily PM2.5 was collected during summer period in 2020 in Gwangju to investigate its chemical and light absorption properties. In addition, real-time light absorption coefficients were observed using a dual-spot 7-wavelength aethalometer. During the study period, SO42- was the most important contributor to PM2.5, accounting for on average 33% (10-64%) of PM2.5. The chemical form of SO42- was appeared to be combination of 70% (NH4)2SO4 and 30% NH4HSO4. Concentration-weighted trajectory (CWT) analysis indicated that SO42- particles were dominated by local pollution, rather than regional transport from China. A combination of aethalometer-based and water-extracted brown carbon (BrC) absorption indicated that light absorption of BrC due to aerosol particles was 1.6 times higher than that due to water-soluble BrC, but the opposite result was found in absorption Ångström exponent (AAE) values. Lower AAE value by aerosol BrC particles was due to the light absorption of aerosol BrC by both water-soluble and insoluble organic aerosols. The BrC light absorption was also influenced by both primary sources (e.g., traffic and biomass burning emissions) and secondary organic aerosol formation. Finally the ATR-FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of NH4+, C-H groups, SO42-, and HSO42-. The presence of HSO42- supports the result of the estimated composition ratio of inorganic sulfate ((NH4)2SO4) and bisulfate (NH4HSO4).
In radiation therapy, accurate Quality Assurance (QA) is required to irradiate tumor tissue while minimizing damage to normal tissue. Therefore, a dosimeter that can accurately measure radiation is needed. The purpose of this study is to develop a highly efficient radiation dosimeter with high sensitivity by applying a particle in binder method that can reduce manufacturing costs and simplify processes to perovskite materials that are cheaper and simpler to manufacture. By evaluating the response characteristics to high-energy photon, the applicability of QA dosimeter to radiation therapy was evaluated. As a result of reproducibility evaluation, RSD at 6 MV energy was presented as 1.178% and 15 MV energy was presented as 1.141%. As a result of linearity evaluation according to linear regression analysis, R2 values of 0.9999 were presented under each condition of 6 MV and 15 MV energy. It was found that the CsPbBr3 dosimeter manufactured based on the results of reproducibility and linearity evaluation is highly applicable as a QA dosimeter in the field of therapeutic radiation. The CsPbBr3 dosimeter manufactured in this study presented more than the standard performance in the evaluation of reproducibility and linearity, and it can be used as a radiotherapy QA dosimeter through improvement.
