  • This paper proposes a wideband monopole antenna with improved band rejection characteristics by inserting two band notch slots with half wavelength in radiator. The designed antenna is composed of bow-tie patch fed electromagnetically with parasitic ground patch of a semicircular shape. We obtained band rejection filter-like characteristics by controlling coupling amounts between two horizontal resonance slots. Using this technique, we achieved the broad rejection bandwidth and improved skirt characteristics compared with only one notch slot. The measured bandwidth is from 2.7 GHz to 6.9 GHz for VSWR below 2.0 except the limited band of $4.96{\sim}5.51GHz$. This antenna shows a similar radiation pattern of the ideal monopole and the radiation gain reduction is more than $5{\sim}10dB$ on the x-z plane at rejection frequency.

  • In this paper, a broadband rectangular reflector antenna with 16-array elements for WiBro/WiMAX band(2.3${\sim}$3.5 GHz) is designed, and its radiation characteristics are investigated. The designed antenna is composed of the IBBD(Integrated Balun Bow-tie Dipole) elements and has the feed circuit at the rear of the reflector to reduce the unwanted electromagnetic wave from it. To confirm the broadband characteristics of the designed antenna, test antenna is fabricated and its radiation characteristics are measured, compared with calculated results. The measured results show good agreement with the calculated results. As a result of measurements, 1.8GHz of bandwidth(VSWR<1.6) is achieved at $2.06{\sim}3.89GHz$ and the antenna gain over 10.3 dBi. We confirm that the designed antenna can be used as a broadband antenna for WiBro/WiMAX.

  • In this paper, a design method for a broadband planar dipole antenna for terrestrial digital television (DTV) reception is studied. The dipole is modified to half bow-tie type for size reduction. The balun between feeding microstrip line and coplanar strip (CPS) line is implemented with a rectangular patch inserted along the center of the CPS line. The proposed antenna is the structure of dual resonances, one is due to the dipole and the other is due to the CPS line attached by the balun. The effects of various geometrical parameters on the antenna performance are examined, and the antenna is designed for terrestrial DTV band (470-806 MHz). The prototype antenna is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a size of $95mm{\times}178mm$, and tested experimentally to verify the results of this study.

  • This study addresses the escalating issue of worldwide hydrogen gas accidents, which has seen a significant increase in occurrences. To comprehensively evaluate the risks associated with hydrogen, a two approach was employed in this study. Firstly, a qualitative risk assessment was conducted using the bow-tie method. Secondly, a quantitative consequence analysis was carried out utilizing the areal locations of hazardous atmospheres (ALOHA) model. The study applied this method to two incidents, the hydrogen explosion accident occurred at the Muskingum River power plant in Ohio, USA, 2007 and the hydrogen storage tank explosion accident occurred at the K Technopark water electrolysis system in Korea, 2019. The results of the risk assessments revealed critical issues such as deterioration of gas pipe, human errors in incident response and the omission of important gas cleaning facility. By analyzing the cause of accidents and assessing risks quantitatively, the effective accident response plans are proposed and the effectiveness is evaluated by comparing the effective distance obtained by ALOHA simulation. Notably, the implementation of these measures led to a significant 54.5% reduction in the risk degree of potential explosions compared to the existing risk levels.

  • The problem of resolution in antenna ground-penetrating radar (GPR) is very important for the investigation and detection of buried targets. We should solve this problem with software or a numeric method. The purposes of this paper are the modelling and simulation resolution of antenna radar GPR using three antennas, arrays (as in the software REFLEXW), the antenna dipole (as in GprMax2D), and a bow-tie antenna (as in the experimental results). The numeric code has been developed for study resolution antennas by scattered electric fields in mode B-scan. Three frequency antennas (500, 800, and 1,000 MHz) have been used in this work. The simulation results were compared with experimental results obtained by Rial and colleagues under the same conditions.

  • We have proposed a bow-tie UWB antenna using a U-shaped stub. The proposed antenna covers the entire ISM frequency (2.45 GHz) and DS-OFDM UWB band ($3.1\;{\sim}\;5\;GHz$). Simulated and measured results are found to be in good agreement with each other. The designed antenna has the figure-of-eight radiation pattern, wide bandwidth, dual-band, and negligible dispersion over the operating frequency band.

  • In this paper, a CPW fed slot antenna with novel broadband feed structure is presented. To enhance the impedance bandwidth of the slot antenna we proposed the broadband feed structure of new bow-tie slot which is combined with four λ/2 rectangular radiation slot and inductively coupled. The measured 10 dB impedance bandwidth is about 60 %(5.2∼9.4 GHz) and the simulated antenna gain is about 6 dBi at 7.36 GHz.

  • Fundamental issues and general procedures of modeling the head disk interface (HDI) in order to provide design criteria for future ultra-low flying sliders are given. Intermittent contact and gaseous rarefaction effects are discussed using nonconventional kinetic theory. To illustrate the simulation results, we modeled IBM 3370 taper flat sliders and positive/negative "bow tie" sliders. Several alternative HDI concepts for future disk drives - viscoelastic bearings, a hybrid system, and contact recording - are also briefly discussed.

  • Since the introduction of PSD in 2005, the number of accidents involving passengers falling onto the tracks accidentally or intentionally have drastically decreased, but the number of PSD related passenger accidents is increasing. While existing papers on PSD have been devoted to systemic introduction and system improvement, papers on passenger casuality accidents due to deteriorated PSD have been limited. This paper proposes revising of the scenario model for passenger accidents using classified hazard sources of PSD.

  • We implemented a dual-band slot-coupled patch (SCP) antenna for the external access point (AP) of the wireless local area network (WLAN) band. The antennas consist of two radiators on three layers. The first radiator is a slotted bow tie antenna operating at the 2.4-2.483 GHz band. The second radiator is a patch antenna with parasitic elements operating at 4.095-5.845 GHz. The high gain and broad bandwidth is important element of wireless access. To enhance the bandwidth, a coupled feeding was used in the first radiator and a parasitic patch was used in the second radiator. We used a parasitic patch and chock to improve the directivity and isolation in both radiators. The porposed antenna was designed by EM simulation tool and measured. The S11 of the antenna was less than -11dB (VSWR 1.8:1) at operating frequency. The peak gain was more than 6 dBi in the first antenna and more than 8 dBi in the second antenna.
