Boundary Noise Removal and Hole Filling Algorithm for Virtual Viewpoint Image Generation (가상시점 영상 생성을 위한 경계 잡음 제거와 홀 채움 기법)

  • In this paper, performance improved hole-filling algorithm including boundary noise removing pre-process which can be used for an arbitrary view synthesis with given two views is proposed. Boundary noise usually occurs because of the boundary mismatch between the reference image and depth map and common-hole is defined as the occluded region. These boundary noise and common-hole created while synthesizing a virtual view result in some defects and they are usually very difficult to be completely recovered by using only given two images as references. The spiral weighted average algorithm gives a clear boundary of each object by using depth information and the gradient searching algorithm is able to preserve details. In this paper, we combine these two algorithms by using a weighting factor ${\alpha}$ to reflect the strong point of each algorithm effectively in the virtual view synthesis process. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm performs much better than conventional algorithms.

The Influence of Design Factors of Sonar Acoustic Window on Transfer Function of Self Noise due to Turbulent Boundary Layer (소나 음향창의 설계 인자가 난류 유동 유기 자체 소음의 전달 함수에 미치는 영향 해석)

  • Turbulent boundary layer noise is already a significant contributor to sonar self noise. For developing acoustic window of sonar system to reduce self noise, a parametric study of design factors of acoustic window is presented. Distance of sensor array from acoustic window, materials of acoustic window and characteristics of damping layer are studied as design factors to influence in the characteristics of the transfer function of self noise. As the result, these design factors make change the characteristics of transfer function slightly. Among design factors the location of sensor array is most important parameter in the self noise reduction

  • The noise sources in ship and offshore structure have an influence on adjacent receiving area through a partition between noise sources and receiving area. The partition in ship is usually made of stiffened plate. Sound transmission loss (STL) of the partition at high frequency could be improved by additional installation of insulation or wall panel. At low frequency, however, it is very difficult and needs an increase of plate thickness which causes a considerable weight increase of ship. In this paper, we have investigated the effect of the bulkhead boundary condition. From measurement result, we found that the bulkhead boundary condition can affect a lot in STL, especially at low frequency range. Finally, we get the 5dB increase in STL through the modification of boundary condition.

Numerical Simulation of the Aeroacoustic Noise in the Separated Laminar Boundary Layer

  • The unsteady flow characteristics and the related noise of separated incompressible laminar boundary layer flows (Re$\sub$$\delta$/* = 614, 868, and 1,063) are numerically investigated. The characteristic lines of the wall pressure are examined to identify the primary noise source, related with the unsteady motion of the vortex at the reattachment point of the separation bubble. The generation and propagation of the vortex-induced noise in the separated laminar boundary layer are computed by the method of Computational Aero-Acoustics (CAA), and the effects of Reynolds number, Mach number and adverse pressure gradient strength are examined.

  • The unsteady flow structure and the related noise generation, which are caused by the separation of a two-dimensional, incompressible, laminar boundary-layer on the flat plate under the influence of local adverse pressure gradient, are numerically examined. The characteristic lines of the wall pressure are examined to understand the unsteady behavior of vortex shedding near the reattachment point of the separation bubble.   • A BEM is highly efficient method in the sense of economic computation. However, boundary integration is not easy for the complex and moving surface e.g. in a rotating blade. Thus, Kirchhoff surface is designed in an effort to overcome the difficulty resulting from complex boundary conditions. A Kirchhoff surface is a fictitious surface which envelopes acoustic sources of main concern. Acoustic sources may be distributed on each Kirchhoff surface element depending on its acoustic characteristics. In this study, an axial fan is assumed to have loading noise as a dominant source. Dipole sources can be computed based on the FW-H equation. Acoustic field is then computed by changing Kirchhoff surfaces on which near-field is implemented, to analyze the effect of Kirchhoff surface on it.

Development of indirect EFBEM for radiating noise analysis including underwater problems

  • For the analysis of radiating noise problems in medium-to-high frequency ranges, the Energy Flow Boundary Element Method (EFBEM) was developed. EFBEM is the analysis technique that applies the Boundary Element Method (BEM) to Energy Flow Analysis (EFA). The fundamental solutions representing spherical wave property for radiating noise problems in open field and considering the free surface effect in underwater are developed. Also the directivity factor is developed to express wave's directivity patterns in medium-to-high frequency ranges. Indirect EFBEM by using fundamental solutions and fictitious source was applied to open field and underwater noise problems successfully. Through numerical applications, the acoustic energy density distributions due to vibration of a simple plate model and a sphere model were compared with those of commercial code, and the comparison showed good agreement in the level and pattern of the energy density distributions.

  • Sunroof is getting widely used in automobiles since it maintains, compare to window, better air circulation as well as less noise while driving in high speed. In this study, we consider an electronic control type spoiler sunroof which slides backward after tilting a rear part of a glass. Installing a wind deflector on the sunroof reduces noise much more effectively. The height of the wind deflector is designed using a boundary theory related to incompressible air layer. The developed wind deflector is investigated experimentally by measuring a wind noise. When the height of the wind deflector is designed by a fixed type, the sunroof maintains a very quiet interior noise over a certain driving speed, nevertheless it produces relatively loud noise in low driving speed.

  • Power flow finite element method(PFFEM) combining power flow analysis(PFA) with finite element method is efficient for vibration analysis of a built-up structure, and power flow boundary element method(PFBEM) combining PFA with boundary element method is useful for predicting the noise level of a vibrating complex structure. In this paper, the coupled PFFE/PFBE method is used to investigate the vibration and radiated noise of the unmanned underwater vehicle(UUV) in water. PFFEM is employed to analyze the vibrational responses of the UUV, and PFBEM is applied to analyze the underwater radiation noise. The vibrational energy of the structure is treated as an acoustic intensity boundary condition of PFBEM to calculate underwater radiation noise. Numerical simulations are presented for the UUV in water, and reliable results have been obtained.

Low-frequency Noise Reduction in an Enclosure by using a Helmholtz Resonator Array (헬름홀츠 공명기 배열을 이용한 인클로저 내부의 저주파 소음 저감)

  • A method of the low-frequency noise reduction in an enclosure by using an array of Helmholtz resonator is presented. An integral form of equation, which represents the acoustical coupling between the internal sound field and the resonator array, is formulated so that the boundary element method can be applied to solve the coupling problem. It is shown that the resonator array on the surface of the enclosure can be regarded as impedance patches on the boundary element. Experiments on a simple enclosure acoustically coupled with an array of resonators are conducted to verify the method. The predicted noise reduction by the boundary element method shows good agreement with the measured one. The effects of the resistance of resonators as well as the number of resonators on the noise reduction are demonstrated. As a practical example, the presented method is applied to the payload fairing of a space launcher with resonator arrays. It is demonstrated that the resistance of resonators affects significantly the required number of resonators to achieve a desired noise reduction.
