  • This study presents the Family FIRO model for stepfamily development. The Family FIRO model conceptualizes interactional patterns in stepfamily for dealing with developmental tasks and suggests a method for organizing assessment and for prioritizing treatment strategies. Boundary ambiguity role confusion intergenerational coalition and loyalty conflict lack of relationship commitment and resource management issues of stepfamily constitute the inclusion interaction dimension in The Family FIRO model. While power role negotiation conflict decision making and discipline issues represent the control interaction dimension lack of emotional exchange and open self-disclosure issues are intimacy interaction dimension in the stepfamily. The family FIRO model suggests that stepfamily should attend to the developmental tasks related to inclusion before placing a major emphasis on control issues which in turn should come before emphasis on stepfamily intimacy.

  • On CELP type Vocoders G.723.1 6.3kbps/5.3kbps Dual Rate Speech Codec, which is developed for Internet Phone and videoconferencing, uses VAD(Voice Activity Detection)/CNG (Comfort Noise Generator) in order to reduce the bit rate in a silence period. In order to reduce the bit rate effectively in this paper, we first set the boundary condition of the energy threshold to prevent the consumption of unnecessary processing time, and use three decision rules to detect an active frame by energy, pitch gain and LSP distance. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm we use silence-inserted speech data with 0, 5, 10, 20dB of SNR. As a result when SNR is over 5dB, the bit rate is reduced up to about 40% without speech degradation and the processing time is additionally decreased.

  • This paper proposes new features for recognizing telltale bulb in a cluster. A typical feature employed in model-based pattern recognition is polygonal approximation points of object. But recognition using these dominant points has many mismatching counts in small model such as telltale bulb. To reduce mismatching counts, proposed features are the circle distribution of object pixel and the ratio of distance from center to boundary in object. This Paper also proposes new decision function using three features. In simulation result, we make a comparison mismatching counts between recognition using dominant points and the new recognition algorithm using three features.

  • Up to now, numerical methods such as Finite Element Method(FEM) or Boundary Element Method(BEM) have been widely used to find the optimized resonator's position during designing a car intake system. However, these methods are not useful at the first stage of car design since it is not easy to change a numerical model consist of a large mesh size. A software has been developed to cover the defects using 4-pole parameter method. The software is running at Windows 95 environment for a user's convenience. To show its usefulness, it is applied to a real automobile intake system.

  • The purpose of this paper is to take a closer look at an area having shorted emergence facilities and to determine optional candidate sites instead of vulnerable area by using GIS spatial analysis. Newly determined new candidate is performed by concerning spatial efficiency and spatial equity for a public service. It was determined through using the analyzing of the physical accessibility measure, the Location-Allocation, sort of classic model in spatial statistics and general network analysis. The area of this research has been used in administrative boundary of Young-Dong in Gangneung including 13 emergency, medical hospitals, 46 fire-stations and sub-fire stations. In general terms, what all this show is that the way we are approached for geographical view from using GIS spatial analyzing technique of determined location and allocation problem by the social, economical, political factor and simple administrative discrimination at the meantime. At the same time, with problem occurred in the space it is possible to make an Effective proposal or means, policy, decision for new candidate location-allocation suggesting optimum model.

  • This paper presents a new morphological spatio-temporal segmentation algorithm. The algorithm incorporates luminance and motion information simultaneously, and uses morphological tools such as morphological filtersand watershed algorithm. The procedure toward complete segmentation consists of three steps:joint marker extraction, boundary decision, and motion-based region fusion. First, the joint marker extraction identifies the presence of homogeneours regions in both motion and luminance, where a simple joint marker extraction technique is proposed. Second, the spatio-temporal boundaries are decided by the watershed algorithm. For this purposek, a new joint similarity measure is proposed. Finally, an elimination ofredundant regions is done using motion-based region function. By incorporating spatial and temporal information simultaneously, we can obtain visually meaningful segmentation results. Simulation results demonstratesthe efficiency of the proposed method.

  • In the area of clustering, there are numerous approaches to construct clusters in the input space. For regression problem, when forming clusters being a part of the overall model, the relationships between the input space and the output space are essential and have to be taken into consideration. Conditional Fuzzy C-Means (c-FCM) clustering offers an opportunity to analyze the structure in the input space with the mechanism of supervision implied by the distribution of data present in the output space. However, like other clustering methods, c-FCM focuses on the distribution of the data. In this paper, we introduce a new method, which by making use of the ambiguity index focuses on the boundaries of the clusters whose determination is essential to the quality of the ensuing classification procedures. The introduced design is illustrated with the aid of numeric examples that provide a detailed insight into the performance of the fuzzy classifiers and quantify several essentials design aspects.

  • The Heat Anisotropic Diffusion Method has shown very effective for the contour detection of 2-D echocardiogram. To implement this algorithm, we have to choose the parameter C, K, and the threshold level. The choice of C and K are not very sensitive for the good edge detection of the echocardiogram, however the choice of the threshold level is very critical. Until now the threshold level is chosen by the trial and error method. In this paper, we present an automatic threshold decision method from the histogram of the gradient of boundary-like pixels.

  • This work presents an approach to model concrete shrinkage. The goal is to permit the concrete industry's experts to develop independent prediction models based on a reduced number of experimental data. The proposed approach combines fuzzy logic and genetic algorithm to optimize the fuzzy decision-making, thereby reducing data collection time. Such an approach was implemented for an experimental data set related to self-compacting concrete. The obtained prediction model was compared against published experimental data (not used in model development) and well-known shrinkage prediction models. The predicted results were verified by statistical analysis, which confirmed the reliability of the developed model. Although the range of application of the developed model is limited, the genetic-fuzzy approach introduced in this work proved suitable for adjusting the prediction model once additional training data are provided. This can be highly inviting for the concrete industry's experts, since they would be able to fine-tune their models depending on the boundary conditions of their production processes.

  • This paper proposes that a GDSS research boundary needs to be further expanded to include more human-nature variables arising in natural group interaction processes. By doing so, we can better understand the GDSS phenomena and have a better picture for designing effective GDSS for group decisions. Specifically, this paper reviewed literature and explored variables to be further included in GDSS research arena. As results, this paper proposed an extended framework for GDSS research that includes variables that have been little considered in most empirical studies to date. Then, the variables and their relationships are used to explain the handicaps of current GDSS uses and to redirect the ways of utilizing GDSS technologies for group decision-making. Based on the framework, we suggested proposititions for the future research.
