Experimental Studies on Bouncing and Driving Control of a Robotic Vehicle for Entertainment and Transportation (운송 및 엔터테인먼트용 로봇차량의 바운스 및 주행제어 실험 연구)

  • This paper presents the driving and bouncing control of a robotic vehicle for entertainment and transportation. The robotic vehicle is aimed to carry two passengers with a balancing mechanism by two wheels. To maximize the entertaining purpose, not only the balancing control performance but the bouncing control performance is implemented. Passengers can select different driving modes such as regular driving mode, balancing mode, and bouncing mode. Experimental studies of the balancing control performance as well as the bouncing control performance are conducted to see the feasibility as an entertainment robotic vehicle.

  • The relay used is gradually increased. Because it is possible to easily control the high voltage and current. Bounce phenomenon is generated in contact during operation relay. As the result, arc is generated at the contact, thereby shortening the contact lifetime. In this study, we analyzed the bouncing phenomenon due to deterioration. It can be seen from the experimental results, and it is minimized at about 100,000 times. Bouncing phenomenon to increase again after the minimization. Consequently, the bouncing related to contact weight and shape of contact surface.

NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF THE IMPACTING AND SPREADING DYNAMICS OF THE ELLIPSOIDAL DROP ON THE PERFECT NON-WETTING SOLID SURFACE (완전 비습윤 고체 표면 위 타원형 액적의 충돌 및 퍼짐 거동에 대한 수치적 연구)

  • Leidenfrost drops with ellipsoidal shaping can control the bouncing height by adjusting the aspect ratio(AR) of the shape at the moment of impact. In this work, we focus on the effect of the AR and the impact Weber number(We) on the non-axisymmetrical spreading dynamics of the drop, which plays an important role in the control of bouncing. To understand the impact dynamics, the numerical simulation is conducted for the ellipsoidal drop impact upon the perfect non-wetting solid surface by using volume of fluid method, which shows the characteristics of the spreading behavior in each principal axis. As the AR increases, the drop has a high degree of the alignment into one principal axis, which leads to the consequent suppression of bouncing height with shape oscillation. As the We increases, the maximum spreading diameters in the principal axes both increase whereas the contact time on the solid surface rarely depends on the impact velocity at the same AR. The comprehensive understanding of the ellipsoidal drop impact upon non-wetting surface will provide the way to control of drop deposition in applications, such as surface cleaning and spray cooling.

Effect on the Relay Contact Characteristics According to the Presence of Electrical Connection (릴레이 접점 특성에 미치는 전기적 접속의 영향)

  • The power relay can easily control high voltage and high current through metallic contacts. In addition, it has the advantage in reasonable price. So it has been used in many applications. But the power relay has a weak point by mechanical movements. These mechanical movements cause the bouncing phenomenon. Arc and bouncing phenomenon are the main causes of electric abrasion and material erosion. In this study, mechanical repetitive experiments and repetitive experiments in electrically connected state are conducted. Then these two experimental results in terms of bouncing phenomenon and changes in the contact surface are compared. In all number of repetitions, contacts in an electrically connected state cause smaller number of bounce. Also, It has lower contents of silver on eroded surface than the other. The experimental results would be helpful to the further study of contacts life span.

  • Tractors are used for farming in harsh terrain such as slopes with slippery fields and steep passages. In these potentially dangerous terrain, steering instability caused by bouncing and sliding can lead to tractor rollover accidents. The center of gravity changes as parts such as engines and transmissions used in existing internal combustion engine tractors are replaced by motors and batteries, and the risk of conduction must be newly considered accordingly. The purpose of this study was to derive the center of gravity of a 55 kW class electric tractor using an electric platform from an existing internal combustion engine tractor, and to numerically investigate the tractor steering instability due to bouncing and sliding. The analysis provides a strong analysis by integrating an elaborate combination of a bouncing model and a sliding model based on Coulomb's theory of friction. Various parameters such as tractor speed, static coefficient of friction, bump length and radius of rotation are carefully analyzed through a series of detailed designs. In particular, the simulation results show that the cornering force is significantly reduced, resulting in unintended trajectory deviations. By considering such complexity, this study aims to secure optimal performance and safety in the challenging terrain within the agricultural landscape by providing valuable insights to improve tractor safety measures.

  • Low-band type active suspension system is implemented on a passenger car. Level. roll, pitch and bouncing motion of body are controlled by a digital controller. Sky-hook damper is applied to control bouncing motion. This paper describes overall construction of the system, design of hydraulic system, sensor system, controller, and control scheme. Performance of prototype car has been evaluated on a test track and reported in the second paper.

  • The pantograph contact can be disrupted due to irregularities in the motion. The pantograph detachment prohibits the current flow and makes the system uncontrollable. During the pantograph detachment period, the control error are accumulated by the integral property of the controller. The output of the controller, therefore, can be induced to be an extremely large value. When the pantograph is reattached, the extremely large output of the controllers causes a very high overshoot (or under-shoot) of the line current and the DC-link voltage. This work proposes a new method for detecting the pantograph bouncing conditions and designs a controller considering such conditions based on the pantograph bouncing detector.

Spreading Dynamics of an Ellipsoidal Drop Impacting on a Heated Substrate (고온으로 가열된 고체 표면과 충돌하는 타원형 액적의 퍼짐 거동)

  • Unlike spherical drop impact, ellipsoidal drop impact can control the bouncing height on a heated surface by significantly altering impact behavior. To scrutinize the effect of the aspect ratio (AR) of the drop on the bounce suppression, in this study, non-axisymmetric spreading behaviors are observed from two side views and characterized based on the spreading width of the drop for horizontal principal axes. In addition, the maximum spreading width is investigated for various ARs. The results show that as the AR increases, the maximum spreading width of the minor axis increases, whereas that of the major axis shows no significant variation. In the regime of high AR and high impact velocity, liquid fragmentations by three parts are observed during bouncing. These fragmentations are discussed in this work. The hydrodynamic features of ellipsoidal drop impact will help understand bouncing control on non-wetting surfaces for several applications, such as self-cleaning and spray cooling.

Study of Valve Train Motion According to Valve Clearance (밸브 간극에 따른 밸브트레인 거동 연구)

  • Mechanical tappet is used to reduce the cost and friction loss compared with hydraulic tappet. But the mechanical tappet doesn't have the ability to control the clearance between cams and valves and is selected by measuring the distance between valves and cams in order to minimize the clearance of valves by considering thermal expansion of valves. So, the valve clearance is nearly zero after fully warming-up periods, but there is valve clearance before warming-up. Especially at cold condition, the clearance is relatively large and can bring about some problems. In this study, the valve motions like lift, velocity, seating velocity and bouncing height were studied at various valve clearance conditions by experiment and analysis. As the valve clearance increases, the ramp area becomes shorten and it causes the valve train motion to have bad effects.
