  • With the increasing demand for renewable energy, distributed power included in fuel cells have been studied and developed as a future energy source. For this system, a power conversion circuit is necessary to interface the generated power to the utility. In many cases, a high step-up dc/dc converter is needed to boost low input voltage to high voltage output. Conventional methods using cascade dc/dc converters cause extra complexity and higher cost. The conventional topologies to get high output voltage use flyback dc/dc converters. They have the leakage components that cause stress and loss of energy that results in low efficiency. This paper presents a high boost converter with a voltage multiplier and a coupled inductor. The secondary voltage of the coupled inductor is rectified using a voltage multiplier and series-connected with the boost voltage of primary voltage of the coupled inductor. Therefore, high boost voltage is obtained with low duty cycle. Theoretical analysis and experimental results verify the proposed solutions using a 300W prototype.

  • Novel zero-voltage switching(ZVS) dual inductor-fed DC-DC converter integrating a conventional dual inductor-fed boost converter(DIFBC) and a parallel bidirectional boost converter has been proposed. Most of current-fed type boost topologies including dual inductor schemes have crucial defects such as a high voltage spike on the main switch when it comes to turning off, an unattainable soft start-up due to the limited range of duty ratio, above 50%, and considerable switching losses due to the hard switching. By adding two auxiliary switches and an output capacitor on the conventional DIFBC, the proposed circuit can solve mentioned problems and improve the efficiency with simple methods. The operational principle and theoretical analysis of the proposed converter have been included. Experimental results based on a 42V input, 400V/1A output and 50kHz prototype are shown to verify the proposed scheme.

  • Diode rectifier which can't be controlled output voltage and phase control converter as AC/DC converter have low power factor and harmonics of lower order in the line current. In this paper, three phase PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) AC/DC boost converter is studied to solve these problems. The characteristics of a proposed converter are to control the phase of current without current sensor as a very simple control algorithm using circuit parameters only and to apply sinusoidal PWM method with fixed switching frequency due to a difficult design of input filter and switching device. We simulate for the proposed algorithm that high power factor is achieved and DC link voltage has fast dynamic response without ripple in rectifying and regenerating operation. As a result of experiment with circuit parameter(inductor, capacitor) decided in simulation, the proposed converter had high power factor and reduction of low order harmonics as against diode rectifier.

  • This paper proposes a new non-isolated DC conversion circuit topology of the voltage source coupled inductor series resonant high-frequency PFM controlled boost chopper type DC-DC power converter using two in one IGBT power module, which can efficiently operate under a principle of zero current soft switching for wide output regulation voltage setting ranges and wide fluctuation of the input DC side voltage as well as the load variation ranges. Its steady state operating principle and the output voltage regulation characteristics in the open-loop-based output voltage control scheme without PI controller loop are described and evaluated from theoretical and experimented viewpoints. Finally, in this paper the computer-aided simulation steady-state analysis and the experimental results are presented in order to prove the effectiveness and the validity of voltage regulation characteristics of the proposed series resonant zero current soft switching boost chopper type DC-DC power converter circuit using IGBTs which is based on simple pulse frequency modulation strategy more than, 20kHz.

  • A novel two stage soft-switching ac-to-dc convener with power factor correction is proposed. The proposed convener provides zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) condition to main switch of boost pre-regulator without auxiliary switch. Comparing to the conventional two stage approach(ZVS-PWM boost rectifier followed by off-line ZVS dc-dc step down converter), the proposed approach is simple and reducing EMI noise problem. A new simple DC-linked energy feedback circuit provides zero-voltage-switching condition to boost pre-regulator without imposing additional voltage and current stresses and loss of PWM capability. Operational principle, analysis, control of the proposed converter together with the simulation results of 1KW prototype are presented.

  • This paper proposes impedance-based stability analysis of DC-DC boost converters, where a harmonic state space (HSS) modeling technique is used. At first, the HSS model of the boost converter is developed. Then, the closed-loop output impedance of the converter is derived in frequency domain using small signal modeling including frequency couplings, where harmonic transfer function (HTF) matrices of the open-loop output impedance, the duty-to-output, and the voltage controller are involved. The frequency response of the output impedance reveals a resonance frequency at low frequency region and frequency couplings at sidebands of switching frequency which agree with the simulation and experimental result.

  • This paper presents a new PID controller for a DC/DC boost converter model that has a parasitic inductor resistance. In order to maintain the robust output regulation property under load variations the proposed controller is designed by using an additional state variable developed via a parallel-damped passivity-based control approach. Simulation results using Matlab/Simulink SimPowerSystems compare the performances of the proposed controller with a conventional PI controller for reference step changes and load uncertainties.

  • This paper studies the state estimation problem for the current of DC/DC boost converters with parasitic inductor resistance. The parasitic resistance increases the system uncertainty when the output load variation occurs. In order to enhance the observation performance of the Luenberger observer this paper includes the integral of the estimation error signal to the estimation algorithm. By using the proposed PI observer the converter current signal is successfully reconstructed with the voltage measurement regardless of the load uncertainty. Computer simulation has been carried out by using Simulink/Sim Power System. Simulation results show the proposed method maintains robust estimation performance against the model uncertainty.

  • This paper describes a hybrid multi-output three-level DC/DC converter suitable for a wide, high-input voltage range of an auxiliary power supply for a high-power photovoltaic generating system. In a high-power photovoltaic generating system, the solar panel output voltage depends on solar radiation quantity and varies from 450Vdc to 1100Vdc. The proposed hybrid multi-output three-level DC/DC converter, which is an auxiliary power supply, would be used as power source for control printed circuit boards and relay and cooling fans in a high-power photovoltaic generating system. The proposed multi-output ($24V_{DC}/30A$, $230V_{DC}/5A$) hybrid three-level boost converter, which uses an energy recovery snubber, is controlled by variable-frequency and phase-shifted modulations and can achieve zero-voltage switching with all operating conditions of input voltage and load range. Experimental results of a 2kW prototype are evaluated and implemented to verify the performance of the proposed converter.

  • Since the non-overlapping gate driver used in conventional DC-DC boost converters generates fixed dead-times, the converters suffer from the body-diode conduction loss or the charge-sharing loss. A adaptive control method has been proposed to reduce these loses. In this method, however, occurrence of and overlapping time of two power transistors in CCM results in reduction of efficiency. In this paper, to overcome this problem a new adaptive control method in proposed, and a DC-DC boost converter with the proposed adaptive control and power switching has been designed in a 0.35um CMOS process. The designed converter outputs 3.3V from a input voltage of 2.5V. The switching frequency is 500kHz and the maximum power efficiency is 95.3% at a load current 150mA. The designed chip area is $1720um{\times}1280um$.
