In order to reduce deformation of roadway floor heave in deep underground soft rockmass, four support design patterns were analyzed using the Fast Lagrangian Analysis of Continua (FLAC)3D, including the traditional bolting (Design 1), the bolting with the backbreak in floor (Design 2), the full anchorage bolting with the backbreak in floor (Design 3) and the full anchorage bolting with the bolt-grouting backbreak in floor (Design 4). Results show that the design pattern 4, the full anchorage bolting with the bolt-grouting backbreak in floor, was the best one to reduce the deformation and failure of the roadway, the floor deformation was reduced at 88.38% than the design 1, and these parameters, maximum vertical stress, maximum horizontal displacement and maximum horizontal stress, were greater than 1.69%, 5.96% and 9.97%. However, it was perfectly acceptable with the floor heave results. The optimized design pattern 4 provided a meaningful and reliable support for the roadway in deep underground coal mine.
In this study, a tensile test and FE analysis were conducted on a bolt-connected L-shaped flange to evaluate its behavior and load resistance. A total of five specimens were manufactured using the inner and outer distances and bolt diameters of the L-type flange as experimental variables. As a result of the tensile test of the L-shaped flange, as the internal and external length ratio (b/a) increased, the maximum load decreased and the maximum displacement increased. As the diameter (d) of the bolt increased, the maximum load and the deformation of the wall increased. The shapes of the destruction specimens showed two forms of destruction: one due to the fall of the nut and the surrender of the bolt as the thread of the bolt and nut was worn out, followed by the surrender of the wall. As a result of FE analysis, it was found that elasto-plastic model (EPM) analysis similarly tracks the behavior of the tensile test results.
This paper is concerned with forming of Al-Zn-Mg-Sc aluminum alloy bolts, focusing on the effects of heat treatment and age-hardening on the formability and ductile damage evolution. Both experimental and finite element studies were performed. From the experiments, it is observed that the heat treatment or the normalization of Al-Zn-Mg-Sc aluminum alloy increases its formability dramatically resulting in successful bolt forming, while the effects of age-hardening at room temperature on the stress-strain relationship and formability are not very critical. Deformation characteristics such as distribution of effective stress and strain, material flow, and ductile damage evolution during bolt forming are examined using a commercial finite element package, Deform-2D. It should be noted that the extrusion load predicted by the finite element method matches well the experiment results. The finite element predictions on the deformation characteristics support the experimental observations such as fracture of bolt head flange, material flow, and distribution of hardness.
The excavation broken zones (EBZ) of gateways is a significant factor in determining the stability of man-made opening. The EBZ of 55 gateways with variety geological conditions were measured using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). The results found that the greatly depth of EBZ, the smallest is 1.5 m and the deepest is 3.5 m. Experimental investigations were carried out in the laboratory and in the coal mine fields for applying the combined arch support theory to large EBZ. The studies found that resin bolts with high tensile strength and good bond force could provide high pretension force with bolt extensible anchorage method in the field. Furthermore, the recently invented torque amplifier could greatly improve the bolt pretension force in poor lithology. The FLAC3D numerical simulation found that the main diffusion sphere of pretension force was only in the free segment zone of the surrounding rock. Further analysis found that the initial load-bearing zone thickness of the combined arch structure in large EBZ could be expressed by the free segment length of bolt. The using of high mechanical property bolts and steel with high pretension force will clearly putting forward the bolt length selection rule based on the combined arch support theory.

For the huge section of tunnel, it is highly required to observe the role of each rock support and their effect of rock reinforcement in order to investigate more reasonable rock support structure. Especially for unstable tunnel situation with no shotcrete strength right after an excavation, sufficient investigation is needed for rock support structure. In this paper, we clarify the relations of compressive strength and material age, cohesion strength and material age, and cohesion stiffness and material age of grout with time-dependence through tests and numerical analysis simulation with trial rock mass considering hardening of bolt grouting material. By means of this process, effect of rock reinforcement for rockbolt is investigated right after an excavation and modelling and physical constants of young aged rockbolts are obtained. Additionally, the effect of rock reinforcement with hydraulic tensile friction bolt is examined right after an excavation, which grout effect is no need to be waited.
This paper presented solutions of displacement and stress for a circular opening which is reinforced with grouted rock bolt. It satisfies the Mohr-Coulomb (M-C) or generalized Hoek-Brown (H-B) failure criterion, and exhibits elastic-brittle-plastic or strain-softening behavior. The numerical stepwise produce for strain-softening rock mass reinforced with grouted rock bolt was developed with non-associative flow rules and two segments piecewise linear functions related to a principle strain-dependent plastic parameter, to model the transition from peak to residual strength. Three models of the interaction mechanism between grouted rock bolt and surrounding rock proposed by Fahimifar and Soroush (2005) were adopted. Based on the axial symmetrical plane strain assumption, the theoretical solution of the displacement and stress were proposed for a circular tunnel excavated in elastic-brittle-plastic and strain-softening rock mass compatible with M-C or generalized H-B failure criterion, which is reinforced with grouted rock bolt. It showed that Fahimifar and Soroush's (2005) solution is a special case of the proposed solution for n = 0.5. Further, the proposed method is validated through example comparison calculated by MATLAB programming. Meanwhile, some particular examples for M-C or generalized H-B failure criterion have been conducted, and parametric studies were carried out to highlight the influence of different parameters (e.g., the very good, average and very poor rock mass). The results showed that, stress field in plastic region of surrounding rock with considering the supporting effectiveness of the grouted rock bolt is more than that without considering the effectiveness of the grouted rock bolt, and the convergence and plastic radius are reduced.
The use of face bolt method has been increasing abroad recently. Hence, many tests and measurements are being conducted and reported. Also, it is well hewn that determination of the installation number of foe bolts in the design stage is very difficult due to difference of the ground condition and the type of a bolt to be used. First of all, the type, the number, etc. of bolts used in various tunnel construction sites, investigated, are analyzed. The relationship between bolt and ground condition could not be found because bolts have been used with the other support methods in many cases. In the laboratory test and numerical analysis based on the site investigation, the behavior of ground and pipes installed on the tunnel face to support has been examined. Especially, the installed number is focused on. According to the result of tests, the surface settlement and the axial displacement of the face decrease exponentially as the number of installed bolts increases.
In this paper, through experimental research, the period when rock bolts exert support effects is presented as grout strength and through numerical analysis, the rock bolt pull-out behavior according to ground conditions and strength reduction factors is analyzed. As a result, it is determined that rock bolts exhibit their reinforcing effect at a grout strength of 5 MPa (cured for 18 hours). The influence of the boundary interface strength reduction factor was found to be significant for rock bolt displacement in weak ground conditions, for shear stress between grout and ground in highly elastic ground conditions, and for grout stress in all ground conditions. These findings are expected to contribute to the establishment of specific standards for rock bolt testing and numerical analysis, and to facilitate improved design and implementation of rock bolt reinforcement.

There are many slopes generally developed by excavation and cut slope with small steps on massive slopes of roads. Especially these cut slopes which excavating around fault fracture zone need a reinforcement technology in order to ensure safety. In the case of slope excavation, it is difficult to use the existing slope support at fracture zone because of geological characteristics. Especially the factor of safety decreases significantly due to the movement of blocks in bed rocks and the expansion of interspace of discontinuous planes in fractured zones caused by excavation. Thus an efficient reinforcement technique in accordance with geological properties of fracture zones needs to be developed because the existing slope support has a restricted application. Therefore it is necessary to develop the specialized rock bolt technique in order to ensure an efficient factor of safety for anomalous fracture zones in slopes and tunnels. The purpose of this study is to develop newly improved rock bolt to increase a supporting effect of the swellex bolt method used recently as a friction type in fracture zones.
