  • Discrete-time controller design is proposed using feedback system identification in frequency domain. System Stability imposed by a new controller is checked in the function of a conventional closed-loop system, instead of a poorly modeled plant due to non-linearity and disturbance as well as unstable components, etc. The stability of the system is evaluated in view of Popov criterion. All the equations are formulated in the framework of the discrete-time system. Simulation results are shown on the plant with input saturation components, DC disturbance and a pure integration.

Frequency-dependent electrical parameters of soils as a function of the moisture content (수분함유량에 따른 토양의 전기적 파라미터의 주파수의존성)

  • The electrical parameters of soils are highly dependent on the various factors such as types of soil, chemical compositions, moisture content, temperature, frequency, and so on. The analysis of soil parameters is of fundamental importance in design of grounding systems. In this paper, we present the experimental results of frequency-dependent impedance, resistivity, permittivity of soils as functions of types of soil and moisture content. The impedance and resistivity of soils are decreased as the moisture content and the frequency increase. In particular, the variation of the soil resistivity with the frequency is pronounced in the conditions of high resistivity and low moisture content. On the contrary, the permittivity of soils are sharply decreased with increasing the frequency below 10kHz and the frequency-dependent permittivity of soils are highly changed in the conditions of high moisture and low resistivity.

  • This paper describes underwater discharge phenomena which are less studied than gas, solid and dielectric liquid. Since discharge phenomena were affected by various factors, we investigated the effect of water resistivity in point-plane gap by impulse voltage. In discharge photograph, it is hard to discover the streamer development in positive polarity at high reisistivity. On the other hand, the streamer originated at the tip of rod and developed toward the plane with increasing voltage. It is found that the breakdown voltage of both polarities in lower resistivity are lower than that of high resistivity. High current flowing in lower resistivity before the breakdown induce more streamer and enhance the probability of breakdown.

  • For lightning currents, a grounding system shows the transient grounding impedance characteristics. A grounding system for protection against lightning should be evaluated by the transient grounding impedance, not it's ground resistance. The transient grounding impedance varies with the shape of ground electrode and earth characteristics as well as the waveform of lightning surge current. For the analysis and practical use of transient grounding impedance, the characteristics of transient grounding impedance should be analyzed theoretically and this paper suggests the theoretical analysis for the transient grounding impedance of counterpoise by using the distributed parameter circuit model. EMTP and Matlab are used to simulate the distributed parameter circuit model of counterpoise and the adequacy of the distributed parameter model of counterpoise is examined by comparing the simulated results with the measured results.

  • An effective and convenient regioselective reduction of 5-benzylidene 2,4-thiazolidinedione derivatives to the corresponding 5-benzyl 2,4-thiazolidinedione derivatives has been accomplished using 3,5-dicarboethoxy-2,6-dimethyl-1,4-dihydropyridine (Hantzsch dihydropyridine ester: HEH) with silica gel as an acid catalyst in a good yield.

  • Type 2 diabetes is characterized by high level of blood glucose and insulin and impaired action. In recent years, the treatment of type 2 diabetes has been revolutionized with the advent of thiazolidinedione (TZD) class of molecules that ameliorate insulin resistance and thereby normalize elevated blood glucose levels. These TZDs are synthetic, high-affinity ligands of peroxisome proliferator activated receptor-gamma (PPAR${\gamma}$); a member of the nuclear receptor family that controls the expression of genes in the target tissues of insulin action.   • An asymmetrical cross-coupled compensator to improve the contouring performance is proposed. This is a refinement of the structure suggested by Koren. The position loop is closed with a proportional controller as in the uncoupled system. An additional input term proportional to the component of the contour error along the corresponding axis is included. The controller gains are chosen to give an appropriate frequency response and an optimum range for the damping ratio. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is studied by means of digital simulations of the dynamics of the drives and the controller for 4 types of command trajectories: straight line contour, cornering contour, circular contour, elliptic contour. Substantial improvement in contouring performance is obtained for a range of contouring conditions.
