  • we studied the structural weak areas of an electric car bogie frame by finite element analysis. The bogie frame under consideration is a part of the standard electric car with aluminium car body. Vertical, torsional. lateral and longitudinal loadings were applied. Numerical results were compared with the experimental results. The two results are in a good agreement.

  • We consider the position and thickness of reinforcement with respect to fatigue fracture of welded bogie frames and propose an appropriate reinforcement method for many cases. The bogie frame is usually designed in accordance with JIS and KS, and operates under harsh load conditions: dynamic loads generated while driving, various loads during operation, and large load differences between loading and unloading. Consequently, fatigue failure often occurs throughout the bogie frame. We modelled the reinforcing method using ANSYS software and reviewed stress in the vicinity of common fatigue failure sites through computer simulation, optimizing the position and thickness of reinforcement.

  • Nowadays domestic demands for urban EMUs are gradually increased due to traffic jams and environmental problems. Therefore it has been required to make sure of manufacturing quality and to acquire cost effective bogie frames through mass production. One of the major functions of bogie frames is to guarantee the static strength and durability. In this research, the comparison between FE analysis and actual load test results is performed for the bogie frame, which is manufactured by Rotem Company. The results show that the standardized bogie frame meets the strength requirements of domestic regulations.

  • A shape optimization of a rib of a bolster of a bogie frame is attempted and a dimension optimization on upper and lower plates is also carried out for the reduction of the weight of bogie frame. In addition, the dynamic characteristics of the weight reduced model are investigated by an analysis of a natural frequency and a transient analysis. The results show that the first natural frequency of an optimized model is larger than that of the lowest design value. And the results of transit analysis based on the experimental stress also show smaller value than the yield stress. Thus the optimized model attempted in this study is considered to be structurally stable and useful for the improvement of railway carriages.

  • Bogie frame of the electric car is an important structural member for the support of vehicle leading. In general, more than 25 years' durability is necessary. A lot of study has been carried out for the prediction of the structural integrity of the bogie frame in experimental and theoretical domains. One of the useful methods is reliability-based approach. The objective of this paper is to estimate the structural integrity of the bogie frame of an electric car, which is under the running test. We used two approachs. In the first approach probabilistic distribution of S-N curve is used. In the second approach, limit state function is used.

  • This study proposes the integrity evaluation of bogie frame using ultrasonic waves-fractography analysis. Analysis objectives in this study are to investigate fracture planes of damaged zone by the A-scan method. The surface condition of fracture plane shows degree of degradation by stress concentration. The detection of the natural defects in bogie frame is performed using the characteristics of echodynamic pattern in ultrasonic signal. Results of ultrasonic testing agree fairly well with those of actual fracture plane. In quantitative fractography analysis, microstructures of actual fracture plane turned out to be intergranular and transgranular fracture, Proposed ultrasonic-fractography analysis in this study can be used for the integrity evaluation of the bogie frame

  • This paper has performed fatigue and nondestructive test of bogie frame for Korean tilting train. Before the fatigue test, static tests were carried out. From the test, the structural safety was investigated using Goodman diagram. After the static test, the fatigue test were conducted under tilting load conditions. The fatigue test was conducted for $10{\times}10^6$ cycles. During the fatigue test, the nondestructive tests using magnetic particle and liquid penetrant were performed at $6{\times}10^6$ cycle and $10{\times}10^6$cycle. From the crack detection tests, it was known that there was no fatigue crack in the bogie frame.

커플링 모델을 이용한 대차프레임 용접부 응력 해석 (Stress Analysis on Weld Zone of Railway Bogie Frame Using Coupling Model)

  • In this paper, stress analyses using shell and solid elements on weld zone of railway bogie frame were performed. To calculate stress distribution on weld zone, a coupling model using shell and solid elements was suggested. For this purpose, we performed specimen analyses on T-type solid and shell model of T-type panels which were modeled using shell elements, solid elements and coupled elements, respectively. The result showed that the stress concentration at weld zone was occurred in solid model, but it didn't occur in shell model. And the stress distribution of coupled model was similar to that of solid model. Also, we applied the coupled modeling method on the analysis on weld zone of bogie frame. The stress distribution of coupled model showed much higher compared to that of shell only model. Therefore, the coupled model method is highly recommended for the stress analysis in weld zone of bogie frame.

  • This report is the result performed the structural analysis and the static and fatigue load test of bogie frame for the purpose of designing and verifying the bogie frame which satisfy the load condition required in the UIC code. This investigation is proposed the efficient draft of the design to satisfy the load condition required in the UIC code. And It is performed the structural analysis to evaluate the static strength and the fatigue life of the patient material and the welded part. Also, This is proposed the efficient draft of the test to satisfy the method of the static and fatigue test required in the UC code. And it is carried out the static and the fatigue load test to verify it. We can designed the bogie frame in compliance with UIC 515-4 and 615-4 code.

  • Stress analysis of the bogie frame by using the finite element method has been performed for the various loading conditions according to the results of vehicle dynamics analysis. Multiaxial fatigue analysis methods such as signed von Mises method, and typical critical plane theories were reviewed, and margin of safety for fatigue is defined. Multiaxial fatigue analysis program to predict the margin of safety of bogie frame under non-proportional loading conditions has been developed by using a commercial command language. Fatigue analysis of bogie frame under multiaxial loading was performed through this program and finite element analysis result. The procedure developed in this study is considered to be useful for the fatigue strength analysis in preliminary design stage of railway components under multiaxial loading condition.
