  • This paper describes the result of structure analysis and load test of bogie frame. The purpose of the analysis and test is to evaluate an safety which bogie frame shall be considered fully sufficient rigidity so as to satisfy proper system function under maximum load. Bogie system consist of bogie frame, suspensions, wheel-sets, brake system and transmission system. Among these component, the bogie frame is most significant component subjected to the vehicle and passenger loads. The evaluation method is used the JIS E 4207 specification throughout the FEM analysis and static load test. The test results have been very safety and stable for design load conditions.

  • The electromagnetic suspension system, which is a kind of magnetic levitation, can be categorized into two groups; separate lift & guidance system and combined lift & guidance system. This paper deals with the latter system, in which lift and guidance forces are generated by a pair of staggered magnets with the inverted U- shaped rail. In this work, a rigid body bogie-truck and a twist response type of bogie-truck, which are constructed by two magnetic wheels consist of two staggered magnet pairs, are modeled, and curvature running characteristics of both types obtained by simulation are presented. Simulation result showed that curvature running characteristics of twist response type of bogie-truck is better than that of rigid body bogie-truck.

  • A bogie frame is typical safty part of railway vehicle. Main performance of a bogie frame is to support a car body and passenger weight and transfer traction and braking force. This paper is to evaluate the static strength and fatigue strength for the end trailer bogie with UIC 615-4 code. Therefore stress analysis of the end trailer bogie frame has been performed for various loading condition according to the UIC 615-4 code and haigh diagram is used for evaluation of fatigue strength. By the results of these analysis, static and fatigue strength of the end trailer bogie is satisfied with a applied criterion.

  • In this paper, the structural integrity and fatigue strength for the bogie frame of Monorail being developed in domestic was evaluated. Presently, the standard of evaluation for the bogie frame of monorail was not regulated. Therefore, the evaluation of the structural integrity and fatigue strength for the bogie frame was performed on the basis of the UIC 615-4 standard. The structural integrity of the designed bogie frame was evaluated by displacement and Von-Mises stress under each load conditions. And the fatigue strength was evaluated by combined main in-service load conditions specified at UIC 615-4 standard and it was compared with result of fatigue analysis using winLIFE v3.1 with the function of batch processing. The results shows that the structural integrity and fatigue strength of the designed bogie frame was satisfied, and the fatigue analysis using batch processing was more effective than conventional fatigue analysis using combined load conditions.

  • Bogie frame of the electric car is an important structural member for the support of vehicle loading. In general, more than 25 years' durability is necessary. A lot of study has been carried out for the prediction of the structural integrity of the bogie frame in experimental and theoretical domains. The objective of this paper is to estimate the structural integrity of the bogie frame of an electric car, which is under the running test. F.E. analysis of bogie frame was performed to find locations for attaching strain gage and to estimate static stress. Dynamic stress were measured by using strain gage in order to evaluate the structural integrity of the bogie frame.

  • It is known that bogie frame must have sufficient stiffness for car body and passenger weight and transfer traction and braking force, and as of today most studies and verifications are restricted to static and fatigue analysis for force acted on bogie frame. Bogie frame is mounted with equipments to control the signal, traction and so on, this equipment's behavior is subjected to vibration mode occurs on running condition. If the resonance occurs on this equipment, the possibility of crack occurrence on bracket connected with equipment and bogie frame will be increased. In this paper, the method of vibration strength verification for bracket attached on bogie frame will be introduced by using frequency response method.

  • Bogie frame of the locomotive is an important structural member for the support of vehicle loading. A lot of study has been carried out for the prediction of the structural integrity of the bogie frame in experimental and theoretical domains. The objective of this paper is to estimate the structural integrity of the bogie frame. Strength analysis has been performed by finite element analysis. From these analysis, stress concentration areas were investigated. For evaluation of the loading conditions, dynamic stress were measured by using strain gage. It has been found that the stress and strain due to the applied loads were multi-axial condition according to the location of strain gage. The fatigue strength evaluations of the bogie frame are performed to investigate the effect of the multi-axial load through the employment of the critical plane approach.

  • In development of the bogie, the fatigue strength of the bogie frame is an important design criteria. Also the bogie frame weight reduction is required in order to save energy and materials. In this study. structural analysis of bogie frame by using the finite element method has been performed for the various loading conditions according to the UIC standards and it has been attempted minimize the weight of bogie frame by back-propagation neural network and genetic algorithm. Finite element mesh generation and finite element analysis were performed by Altaire Hyper Mesh and ABAQUS.

  • A domestic's freight stock is about 14,000 cars. Most of them is consisted of casting bogie type. Casting bogie type has some problems such as maintenance, part abrasion, running safety etc. Now a day casting bogie type have replaced with welded type bogie for high speed. The maximum speed of the container freight car is 70km/h limit at empty weight condition in case of casting type bogie frame. So there are some difficulty in commercial service for high speed coaches. Then we should re-decide whether the casting bogie type has speed up 90km/h limit at empty weight through out the vibration characteristic.
