두릅나무추출물(抽出物)이 Alloxan으로 유발(誘發)된 가토(家兎)의 고혈당(高血糖)에 미치는 영향(影響) (Effects of Aralia elata extract on experimentally Alloxan Induced Diabetes in Rabbits)

  • Effect of Aralia elata extract on experimentally alloxan-induced diabetes ill rabbits and toxicity of mouse were studied; $LD_50$ of Aralia elata extract (A. E. E.) was 5.5g/kg intraperitoneally ill mice. A. E. E. 800mg/kg exhibited more excellent hypoglycemic effect after 6 days and 14 days in 200mg/kg, compared to the control group. Blood urea nitrogen level was significantly decreased after 6 days in 800mg/kg. and blood levels of total cholesterol and GPT activity were showed more significant decreasing effect ill 800mg/kg than 200mg/kg.

HEPATO-AND RENAL TOXICITY OF AQUEOUS EXTRACT OF A MUSHROOM, AMANITA VOLVATA IN MICE

  • Toxic effects of a mushroom, Amanita volvata, were studied in respect to biochemical and histological changes induced in the liver and kidneys of mice. The changes in biochemical parameters characteristically appeared 12 hrs after oral administration of an aqueous extract of the mushroom. The hepatic glycogen decreased markedly to 17% of the control level and a concemitant decrease in blood glucose was also observed. The activity of serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT) was elevated by 2.5-fold and the level of blood urea nitrogen (BUN) increased by 3-fold, respectively, 12 hrs after administration of the mushroom, their levels being maintained up to 24 hrs.

Case reports of amniotic membrane derived-cell treatment for feline chronic renal failure

  • Three different cats who had chronic kidney disease (CKD) were treated for more than one month with fluid therapy in an animal clinic. Although this long-term treatment and hospitalization, there was no clinical improvement in clinical signs as well as serum biochemical indexes including blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine (CREA), and phosphate (PHOS). All cases were then injected three times with allogeneic stem cells through an intravenous route for treatment on Day 0, 7, and 14 or 30. On the same day, clinical observation and blood tests for serum biochemistry were conducted together. Upon administrating stem cells to the CKD cats, clinical conditions and the indexes of BUN and CREA were clinically improved within normal ranges. Additionally, one of the cats who had the renal cysts presented clinical improvement with showing decreased cysts size than before.

해상가두리 양식장 어류의 혈액 검사에 사용된 동물용 생화학 분석장치의 활용 가능성 (Application of Veterinary Chemistry Analyzer used to Hematological Analysis of Marine fish Cultured in Floating Netcage)

  • 본 연구는 동물용 생화학 분석장치를 이용하여 분석한 어류 혈액검사 항목 가운데 적용할 수 있는 분석항목의 활용도를 평가함과 동시에 어류 혈액학적 건강진단에 필요한 분석항목의 참고자료를 얻고자 하였다. 경남 지역의 해상가두리 어류 양식장에서 사육중인 육안적으로 보아 건강한 조피볼락 (Sebastes schlegeli), 참돔 (Pagrus major), 돌돔 (Oplegnathus fasciatu) 및 감성돔 (Acanthopagrus schlegeli) 총 522마리를 대상으로 hematocrit 와 간편하게 혈액성분을 측정할 수 있는 FUJI DRI-CHEM 3000 기종을 이용하여 혈장화학적 성분 분석을 실시하였다. Hematocrit (Ht)는 microhematocrit법에 의해 그리고 hemoglobin (Hb), 총단백 (TP), 알부민 (ALB), 알칼리성포스파타제 (ALP), 요소질소 (BUN), 젖산탈수소효소 (LDH), 중성지방 (TG), 총콜레스테롤 (TCHO), 크레아티닌 (CRE), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), 포도당(GLU)은 정상범위의 표준자료가 이미 프로그램화되어 장치된 동물용 생화학 분석장치인 FUJI DRI-CHEM 3000 기종을 이용하여 분석하였다. 그 결과, 측정된 Hb와 혈장화학성분의 실제 값들은 본 기종의 하한 및 상한 한계치를 상당히 벗어났다. 본 장비로부터 분석값을 검출하지 못하였던 비율을 살펴보면, ALB 및 ALT는 68~66%, LDH, TP, ALP 및 GLU는 42~21%, TCHO, AST, TG, Hb 및 CRE는 18~3%의 범위를 나타내었으나, BUN의 분석값은 모두 검출한계를 벗어나지 않았다.

클로렐라의 항 피로 효과 연구 (Antifatigue Effect of Chlorella vulgaris in Mice)

  • 단세포 조류 생물인 Chlorella vulgaris(클로렐라)는 다양한 생리 활성을 가진 기능성 소재로 이용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 강제 수영 부하 실험과 혈액 생화학적 지표에 대한 클로렐라의 효과에 대해 연구하였다. 혈액 생화학적 지표로는 Blood urea nitrogen(BUN), creatine kinase(CK), lactic dehydrogenase(LDH), glucose(Glc), total protein(TP), albumin을 혈액 생화학적 지표로 측정하였다. 매일 0.05, 0.1, 0.15 g/kg 농도의 클로렐라를 각각 실험 군별로 마우스에 구강 투여했다. 클로렐라를 투여한지 3일, 7일째 되는 날 강제 수영 부하 실험을 시행한 결과 0.15 g/kg 클로렐라를 투여한 그룹에서 유의적으로 부동시간을 감소시켰다. 또한 혈청 중 BUN 수치를 낮췄으며, CK, LDH 수치는 감소하는 경향을 나타냈다. 클로렐라 투여 시 혈 중 Glc 수치는 높아졌으나, TP 와 albumin 수치는 변화가 없었다. 이상의 결과들은 클로렐라가 육체적 지구력 향상 효과가 있는 것을 시사하고 있다.

젖소의 고능력우와 저능력우간의 우유 성분 및 혈중 대사물질 특성 비교 (Comparison of Milk Composition and Blood Metabolites Between High and Low Milk Producing Cows)

  • The objective of this study was to estimate the effects of daily milk yield, somatic cell count(SCC), days in milk(DIM), and parity on the compositions of milk and blood in high or low producing dairy cows. To divide the high or low producing group, there were some restrictions in this study. 235 Holstein dairy cows had a average daily milk yield of 23.2 $\pm$ 6.8 kg were grouped into two classes with low producing(average daily milk 17kg) or high producing(average daily milk 29 kg). The other restrictions were two parities(first and second parity), two SCC groups(under $l{\times}10^5$cells/ml, and $l{\times}10^5$ to $7{\times}10^5$ celis/ml), and three DIM groups(under 80, 81 to 180, and 181 to 305DIM). The blood urea nitrogen(BUN), milk urea nitrogen(MUN) and glucose between two group with high and low somatic cell count were not affected by parity, DIM and SCC. But there were significantly different on BUN and glucose between high and low milk producing(p< 0.01), also was different on glucose between parities(p < 0.05). White blood cell(WBC) and lymphocyte were affected(p< 0.05) by SCC level, protein percent was also affected by DIM(p< 0.01). The least square means of protein in second parity was a 1.3 times higher than that in first parity(p < 0.05), and it showed a higher level in the low producing group than the high producing group(p < 0.0l). WBC and lymphocyte were lower in the $1{\sim}7{\times}10^5$ celis/ml than those under $1{\times}10^5$ celis/ml(p< 0.05). Neutrophil was a higher level in first parity than that in second parity(p < 0.05). Only protein and total solid were affected by parity, the other compositions were not affected by parity, DIM, SCC and milk yields. The results suggested that significant differences were in the blood components such as glucose, WBC, lymphocyte and neutrophil between high and low producing cows. The results also show that more studies are required to clarify the factors and markers related to milk yield, quality and mastitis.

연령, BMI, 질병노출로 인한 탈수 위험 (Dehydration Risk from Age, BMI, and Disease Exposure)

  • 연구목적: 본 연구의 목적은 종합건강검진 수검자의 신체측정과 혈액검사를 통해 탈수 위험요인에 대해 조사하는 것이다. 연구방법: 연구 분석을 위해 Sodium ($Na^+$), BUN (Blood Urea Nitrogen) 및 FBS (Fasting Blood Sugar)의 데이터가 유효한 5,391개의 샘플을 선택하여 혈장삼투압 탈수지표를 계산하였다. 조사 데이터는 2014.01.01과 2015.12.31사이에 삼육서울의료원 종합건강검진센터를 방문한 검진 수검자로부터 수집되었다. 탈수와 연령, 체질량지수(BMI), 질병노출(고혈압, 당뇨병, 이상지질혈증, 신장장애)의 관계를 성별로 구분하여 분석하였다. 연구결과: 탈수 교차비는 남성과 여성 모두 50대 이상 연령부터 통계적 유의성이 나타났다. 비만여성은 탈수에 취약했으나 남성은 BMI 차이에 통계적 유의성이 나타나지 않았다. 질병에 노출된 그룹(고혈압, 당뇨병, 이상 지질 혈증, 신장 장애)은 탈수에 취약하였다. 또한 질병노출 수가 많을수록 교차비가 높아 탈수 위험도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 결론: 노화, BMI증가, 질병노출은 탈수에 취약하게 하는 위험요인으로 나타났다. 50세 이후 연령대는 탈수예방을 위해 BMI와 만성질환 조절에 특별한 주의가 요구된다. 질병발생에 잠재적인 자극 메커니즘으로 혈장 삼투압 증가에 영향을 끼치는 탈수 위험요인에 대한 추가 연구를 제안한다.

Effects of dietary energy and crude protein levels on growth performance, blood profiles, and nutrient digestibility in weaning pigs

  • Objective: This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of reducing dietary metabolic energy (ME) and crude protein (CP) levels on growth performance, blood profiles, and nutrient digestibility in weaning pigs. Methods: A total of 240 crossbred pigs ($Duroc{\times}[Landrace{\times}Yorkshire]$) with an average body weight of $8.67{\pm}1.13kg$ were used for a 6-week feeding trial. Experimental pigs were allotted to a $2{\times}3$ factorial arrangement using a randomized complete block design. The first factor was two levels of dietary ME density (low ME level, 13.40 MJ/kg or high ME level, 13.82 MJ/kg) and the second factor was three dietary CP levels based on subdivision of early and late weaning phases (low CP level, 19.7%/16.9%; middle CP level, 21.7%/18.9%; or high CP level, 23.7%/20.9%). Results: Over the entire experimental period, there were no significant difference in body weight among groups, but a decrease in diet energy level was associated with an increase in average daily feed intake (p = 0.02) and decrease in gain-feed ratio (G:F) ratio (p<0.01). Decreased CP levels in the diet were associated with a linear increase in average daily gain (p<0.05) and quadratic increase in G:F ratio (p<0.05). In the early weaning period, blood urea nitrogen concentration tended to increase when ME in the diet decreased and decrease when CP level in the diet decreased (p = 0.09, p<0.01, respectively). Total protein concentration tended to increase when CP level was reduced (p = 0.08). In the late weaning period, blood urea nitrogen concentration decreased linearly as CP level decreased (p<0.01). The CP and crude fat digestibility decreased when ME was decreased by 0.42 MJ/kg (p = 0.05, p = 0.01, respectively). The CP digestibility increased linearly as CP level decreased (p = 0.01). Conclusion: A weaning pig diet containing high ME level (13.82 MJ/kg) and low CP level (19.7%/16.9%) can improve pig growth performance and nutrient digestibility.

NUTRITIONAL QUALITY OF WHOLE CROP CORN FORAGE ENSILED WITH CAGE LAYER MANURE. II. IN SITU DEGRADABILITY AND FERMENTATION CHARACTERISTICS IN THE RUMEN OF GOATS

  • In situ degradability and fermentation characteristics in the rumen of goats fed whole crop corn forage ensiled with (MS silage) or without (CS silage) 30% of cage layer manure (CLM) were investigated. The two silages were well preserved. To adjust nitrogen intake of CS silage to that of MS silage, the 3rd group of goats was given urea with CS silage at feeding time (US silage). Each goat was given a diet of 2% of the body weight (dry matter basis) daily. In situ degradability of dry matter (DM) and crude protein (CP) of MS silage in the rumen were higher than those of CS and US silages. Total potentially degradable portions of DM and CP in MS silage were also higher than those in CS and US silages. Blood urea nitrogen and rumen ammonia nitrogen concentration of goats fed US and MS silages were significantly (p<0.05) higher than those of goats fed CS silage. Acetic, propionic and butyric acids in ruminal fluids of goats fed MS silage were significantly (p<0.05) higher than those of goats fed CS and US silages.

Changes in ruminal fermentation and blood metabolism in steers fed low protein TMR with protein fraction-enriched feeds

  • Four ruminally cannulated Holstein steers (BW $482.9{\pm}8.10kg$), fed low protein TMR (CP 11.7%) as a basal diet, were used to investigate changes in rumen fermentation and blood metabolism according to protein fraction, cornell net carbohydrates and protein system (CNCPS), and enriched feeds. The steers, arranged in a $4{\times}4$ Latin square design, consumed TMR only (control), TMR supplemented with rapeseed meal (AB1), soybean meal (B2), and perilla meal (B3C), respectively. The protein feeds were substituted for 23.0% of CP in TMR. Ruminal pH, ammonia-N, and volatile fatty acids (VFA) in rumen digesta, sampled through ruminal cannula at 1 h-interval after the morning feeding, were analyzed. For plasma metabolites analysis, blood was sampled via the jugular vein after the rumen digesta sampling. Different N fraction-enriched protein feeds did not affect (p > 0.05) mean ruminal pH except AB1 being numerically lower 1 - 3 h post-feeding than the other groups. Mean ammonia-N was statistically (p < 0.05) higher for AB1 than for the other groups, but VFA did not differ among the groups. Blood urea nitrogen was statistically (p < 0.05) higher for B2 than for the other groups, which was rather unclear due to relatively low ruminal ammonia-N. This indicates that additional studies on relationships between dietary N fractions and ruminant metabolism according to different levels of CP in a basal diet should be required.
