  • At present, the cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) using mercury lamp has been generally used far liquid crystal backlight source of personal computer and car navigation and so on. This kind of lamp is more excellent on luminance performance and cost. However, the requirements of liquid crystal backlight due to a light source without mercury have been strongly increased from a viewpoint of the actual influence on environmental preservation and environmental recycling. As fluorescent lamp without mercury, Dielectric Barrier Discharge based rare gas fluorescent lamp (DBD-FL) using xenon (Xe) gas has been studied so far. This DBD lamp has no influence on the human body and environmental recycle. Its operating life is long because electrode is out. In this paper, the simulation and experimental results of soft switching high frequency inverter with reverse blocking single switch as a high frequency power supply circuit for DBD-FL using Xe gas are comparatively evaluated and discussed from a practical point of view.

Efficient white organic light-emitting diodes with a doped hole-blocking layer

  • We report very efficient white OLEDs consisting of a blue-emitting 4,4'bis[N-(1-napthyl)-N-phenyl-amino]-biphenyl (${\alpha}$-NPD), a hole-blocking layer of 2,9-dimethyl-4, 7-diphenyl-1, 10-phenanthroline (BCP) doped with red fluorescent dye of 4-dicyanomethylene-2-methyl-6-[2-(2,3,6,7-tetrahydro- 1H, 5H-benzo[i,j]quinolizin-8-yl) vinyl]-4H-pyran) (DCM2), and green-emitting tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum ($Alq_3$). The device with the structure of ITO/${\alpha}$-NPD (50 nm)/BCP:DCM2 (0.8 %, 4 nm)/$Alq_3$ (50 nm)/LiF (0.5 nm)/Al shows a white emission with the CIE coordinates (0.329, 0.333). The maximum luminance of 20,800 cd/$m^2$ is obtained at 15.4 V. The power efficiency is 2.6lm/W and the external quantum efficiency is 2.1 % at a luminance of 100 cd/$m^2$ at the bias voltage of 6 V.

  • n-ZnO/p-Si heterostructure is a good candidate for ZnO-based heterojunction light emitting diodes(LED) because of its competitive price and lower driving voltage. However, the conventional LED shows much lower extraction efficiency, because it has small top contact and large backside contact. In this structure, the injected current from the top contact enters the active region underneath the top contact. Thus, the emitted light is hindered by the opaque top contact. This problem can be solved by using a current-blocking layer(CBL) that prevents the current injection into the active region below the top contact.

Effect of Ultrathin Al2O3 Layer on TiO2 Surface in CdS/CdSe Co-Sensitized Quantum Dot Solar Cells

  • In order to enhance the photovoltaic property of the CdS/CdSe co-sensitized quantum dot sensitized solar cells (QDSSCs), the surface of nanoporous $TiO_2$ photoanode was modified by ultrathin $Al_2O_3$ layer before the deposition of quantum dots (QDs). The $Al_2O_3$ layer, dip-coated by 0.10 M Al precursor solution, exhibited the optimized performance in blocking the back-reaction of the photo-injected electrons from $TiO_2$ conduction band (CB) to polysulfide electrolyte. Transient photocurrent spectra revealed that the electron lifetime (${\tau}_e$) increased significantly by introducing the ultrathin $Al_2O_3$ layer on $TiO_2$ surface, whereas the electron diffusion coefficient ($D_e$) was not varied. As a result, the $V_{oc}$ increased from 0.487 to 0.545 V, without appreciable change in short circuit current ($J_{sc}$), thus inducing the enhancement of photovoltaic conversion efficiency (${\eta}$) from 3.01% to 3.38%.

Effect of Capsaicin on Delayed Rectifier $K^+$ Current in Adult Rat Dorsal Root Ganglion Neurons

  • $K^+$ currents play multiple roles in the excitability of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons. Influences on these currents change the shape of the action potential, its firing threshold and the resting membrane potential. In this study, whole cell configuration of patch clamp technique had been applied to record the blocking effect of capsaicin, a lipophilic alkaloid, on the delayed rectifier $K^+$ current in cultured small diameter DRG neurons of adult rat. Capsaicin reduced the amplitude of $K^+$ current in dose dependent manner, and the concentration-dependence curve was well described by the Hill equation with $K_D$ value of $19.1{\mu}M.$ The blocking effect of capsaicin was reversible. Capsaicin $(10 {\mu}M)$ shifted the steady-state inactivation curve in the hyperpolarizing direction by about 15 mV and increased the rate of inactivation. The voltage dependence of activation was not affected by capsaicin. These multiple effects of capsaicin may suggest that capsaicin bind to the region of $K^+$ channel, participating in inactivation process.

염료감응형 태양전지의 전자재결합 방지를 위한 균일한 TiO2 차단층의 제조 (Fabrication of Uniform TiO2 Blocking Layers for Prevention of Electron Recombination in Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells)

  • Uniform $TiO_2$ blocking layers (BLs) are fabricated using ultrasonic spray pyrolysis deposition (USPD) method. To improve the photovoltaic performance of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), the BL thickness is controlled by using USPD times of 0, 20, 60, and 100 min, creating $TiO_2$ BLs of 0, 40, 70, and 100 nm, respectively, in average thickness on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) glass. Compared to the other samples, the DSSC containing the uniform $TiO_2$ BL of 70 nm in thickness shows a superior power conversion efficiency of $7.58{\pm}0.20%$ because of the suppression of electron recombination by the effect of the optimized thickness. The performance improvement is mainly attributed to the increased open-circuit voltage ($0.77{\pm}0.02V$) achieved by the increased Fermi energy levels of the working electrodes and the improved short-circuit current density ($15.67{\pm}0.43mA/cm^2$) by efficient electron transfer pathways. Therefore, optimized $TiO_2$ BLs fabricated by USPD may allow performance improvements in DSSCs.

IPMC 작동기의 기계적 물성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Mechanical Properties of IPMC actuators)

  • 본 연구에서는 IPMC의 기본적인 기계적 특성을 알아보았다. 기전폴리머의 한 종류인 IPMC는 굽힘형 작동, 가벼움, 저전력 소모, 유연성 등의 많은 장점을 가진 재료이다. 따라서 IPMC는 생체모방형 작동기와 센서로서 많은 가능성을 가지고 있다. 이런 가능성을 바탕으로 IPMC를 실제로 응용하기 위하여 IPMC의 변형, 구동력, 주파수 응답 등 기본적인 기계적 특성을 연구하였다. 우선 이온교환폴리머의 한 종류인 네피온 용액을 사용하여 여러 가지 두께의 네피온 막을 만들고, 무전해 도금을 통해 IPMC를 제작하였다. 이렇게 제작된 IPMC의 규격, 인가 전압에 따른 변형, 구동력, 주파수 응답 특성에 관한 실험을 수행하고, 실험 결과를 통해 IPMC 성능의 실험식과 등가 강성 모델을 수립하였다.

소형 휴대기기용 DC-DC 변환기를 위한 전압 보호회로 설계 (Design of a Voltage Protection Circuit for DC-DC Converter of the Potable Device Application)

  • 본 논문에서 소형 휴대기기용 DC-DC 변환기를 위한 전압보호회로를 설계 하였다. 제안하는 전압보호회는 저전압 보호회로(UVLO)와 고전압 보호회로(OVP) 로 구성되며, 비교기와 바이어스 회로를 사용하여 구현하였다. XFAB $1{\mu}m$ CMOS 공정을 SPICE 모의실험을 통하여 특성 확인을 하였다. 모의실험 결과, 저전압 보호회로(UVLO)는 입력 전압이 4.8 V 이상이 되면 턴-온 되며, 4.2 V 이하가 되면 턴-오프가 되어 저전압의 입력전압이 인가될 때 회로의 오작동을 막을 수 있다. 고전압 보호회로(OVP)는 기준전압 3.8V 이상의 출력전압이 발생하였을 때 회로를 차단하여 소자의 파괴를 막아 안정성과 신뢰성을 높일 수 있다. 또 가상의 DC-DC 변환기 제어회로에 연결한 결과 전압의 이상에 따른 전압보호회로의 동작여부를 확인하였다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 전압보호회로는 DC-DC 변환기의 보호회로 셀로 유용하게 사용 될 것으로 사료된다.

개선된 DC-DC 양방향 컨버터 (Improved DC-DC Bidirectional Converter)

  • 최근 전자제어엔진 및 전기추진선박이 도입된 이래, 배터리를 사용하는 비상 전력공급시스템에서 무정전 전원공급장치의 중요성이 강조되어왔다. 비상 전력공급시스템에서 양방향 컨버터는 중요한 구성요소이다. 본 연구에서는 개선된 DC-DC 양방향 컨버터의 토폴로지를 제시한다. 이것은 기존의 컨버터에 비해 전압변환율은 증가되고 스위치에 인가되는 전압 스트레스는 감소되는 장점을 지닌다. 제안된 컨버터의 성능을 확인하기 위해 소프트웨어 PSIM을 사용하여 시뮬레이션을 수행하였다. 이 컨버터의 변환율은 기존의 컨버터에 비해 승압모드에서 4배, 강압모드에서 1/4배 이었고 스위치에 걸리는 전압은 고압 측의 1/4배 이었다. 또한 블로킹 커패시터가 전하를 균등하게 분배하기 때문에 다른 추가 제어회로 없이 인터리브 모듈 사이에서 전하가 균등하게 분담된다는 것을 확인하였다.

Isolation and electrical characterization of the rat spinal dorsal horn neurons

  • The spinal dorsal horn is the area where primary afferent fibers terminate and cutaneous sensory information is Processed. A number of putative neurotransmitter substances, including excitatory and inhibitory amino acids and peptides, are present in this region and sites and cellular mechanisms of their actions have been a target of numerous studies. In this study, single neurons were acutely isolated and the properties of whole cell current and responses to excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitters were studied by the patch clamp method. Young rats (7-14 days) were anesthetized with diethyl-ether, and the lumbar spinal cord was excised and cut transversely at a thickness of 30$\mu\textrm{m}$ by Vibroslicer. The treatment of spinal slices with low concentration of proteases (pronase and thermolysin 0.75 mg/$m\ell$) and mechanical dissociation yielded isolated neurons with near intact morphology. Multipolar, ellipsoidal and bipolar, and pyramidal cells were shown. By applying step voltage pulses to neurons held at -70 mV, two types of inward currents and one outward currents observed. The fast activating and inactivating inward current was the Na$\^$+/ current because of its fast kinetics and blocking by 0.5${\mu}$M TTX, a specific blocker of Na$\^$+/ channel. The second type of inward currents were sustained. Based on their kinetics and current-voltage relations, it was likely that the second type of inward current was the voltage-dependent Ca$\^$2+/ current. In the presence of TTX, the steady-state currents mainly represented outward K$\^$+/ current which looked like the delayed rectifier K$\^$+/ current. In addition, the membrane currents produced by agonist of excitatory amino acid (EAA) receptor and the endogenous transmitter candidate L-glutamate were recorded in isolated whole-cell voltage clamped neurons as well as responses to inhibitory amino acids (${\gamma}$-amino butyric acid, glycine). Drugs were applied by a method that allows complete exchange of the solution within 1 sec; an infinite number of solutions can be applied to a single cell.
