  • A new block matching algorithm that improved the existing block matching algorithm in terms of image quality is proposed in this paper. The subblock of image including the vertical edge of object is subdivided into new two subblocks, and the moving vector found. The result of computer simulation shows on real image that the image quality by the algorithm becomes higher than that of the three step search algorithm by 1.1dB.

  • The compression of video for both full HD and UHD requires the inclusion of extra vertical lines to every video frame, named as the DTV essential hidden area (DEHA), for the effective functioning of the MPEG-2/4/H encoder, stream, and decoder. However, while the encoding/decoding process is dependent on the DEHA, the DEHA is conventionally viewed as a redundancy in terms of channel utilization or storage efficiency. This paper proposes a block mode DEHA method to more effectively utilize the DEHA. Partitioning video block images and then evenly filling the representative DEHA macroblocks with the average DC coefficient of the active video macroblock can minimize the amount of DEHA data entering the compressed video stream. Theoretically, this process results in smaller DEHA data entering the video stream. Experimental testing of the proposed block mode DEHA method revealed a slight improvement in the quality of the active video. Outside of this technological improvement to video quality, the attractiveness of the proposed DEHA method is also heightened by the ease that it can be implemented with existing video encoders.

  • Sintering behavior of 3%yttria-stabilized zirconia was comparatively studied using a spray-dried powder produced by a domestic and global company. Quality of the sintered block was analysed in terms of relative density, shrinkage rate, grain growth, hardness, and fracture toughness. Relative density, shrinkage rate, and hardness value of the finally sintered block was similar between domestic and global zirconia powder, respectively. But, flexural strength of the domestic powder specimen was about 70% of the sintered block produced by using a global powder. The poor sintering quality of the domestic powder was discussed in relation with compressibility of the spray-dried granule-type powder and the amount of monoclinic phase in the as-received powder.

  • This paper proposes a method to improve video quality on images that have blocking artifacts at block boundary. Block image transform coding suffers from blocking artifact that is a main cause of degrading video quality because of the quantization error of transform coefficients in quantization process. filtering and DPCM for DC components have been widely used to reduce blocking artifact. Recently, lots of works focus on the technique that minimizes block effects using discontinuity of block boundaries. In this paper, image blurring in decoding stage is improved by adding compensation factor to each transformed blocks so that discontinuity of block boundaries can be decreased. The compensation factor is applied on each block without much loss of edge components.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the quality of the constructive play of 3, 4 and 5 year-old children. The researchers used unit blocks as the instrument because they are the most representative examples of constructive play materials. The subjects were 73 children enrolled in a half-day early childhood education program. The children's block play was videotaped 8 times, for a total of 330 minutes. The videotapes were transcribed and assessments were made on the children's 233 constructions in terms of the developmental stage of block play, the variety of materials used, play duration, and play intensity. The data were analyzed through two-way ANOVA to check age and sex differences. The results showed that children's developmental stages of block play were low on the average and that girls did not show an active interest in block play. The results also implied that block play developed by play experience rather than by age. Therefore, this study was interpreted to highlight the importance of teachers' understanding, planning, and mediation of block play in order to induce high-quality constructive play.

  • Conventional MSE or PSNR based methods for objective picture quality assessment of moving picture coder are not well correlated with subjective human evaluation. In recent years, the design of better objective quality assessment has attracted much intention and several picture quality metrics based on the properties of Human Visual System has been proposed. This paper proposes new metric which is appropriate for objective picture quality assessment of block based moving picture coder by considering frequency sensitivity, inter-intra channel masking and several distortion artifacts caused by block based coding. The experimental results show that the proposed method is good correlated with subjective assessment.

  • In this paper a modified Feistel network 128 bit block cipher algorithm is proposed. The proposed algorithm has a 128, 196 or 256 bit key and it updates a selected 32 bit word from input value whole by deformed Feistel Network structure. Existing of such structural special quality is getting into block cipher algorithms and big distinction. The proposed block cipher algorithm shows much improved software speed compared with international standard block cipher algorithm AES and domestic standard block cipher algorithm SEED and ARIA. It may be utilized much in same field coming smart card that must perform in limited environment if use these special quality.

  • Block-based interframe interpolation algorithms cause severe block effect because the algorithm interpolates the skipped frame by using block based motion vector. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an algorithm that reduces the block effect in the interpolated frames. First, we propose an algorithm that obtains backward motion vector by using forward motion vector received from the transmitter. In order to predict well covered and uncovered region, backward motion vector is needed as well as forward motion vector. Second, we propose the algorithm which segments the motion boundary blocks into regions and obtains the motion vector of each region from candidates that consist of the motion vectors of neighbor blocks. This algorithm makes it possible that the moving object and the background, in spite of being in the same block, have different motion vectors from each other so that the block effect can be reduced. According to the results of simulation, the proposed algorithm is superior to conventional algorithm in subjective quality a swell as in objective quality.

  • In this paper, in order to reduce the blocking effect of block coded images, we propose the method considering the lowpass and bandpass components of Granrath's human visual model. This method consists of two-stage enhancement procedure. The first step is lowpass filtering which smooths out the blocking effect, and the second step is a high frequency enhancement procedure to increase the contrast decreased by the lowpass filtering in the first step. In the first step, the one-dimensional Gaussian filter which aligthns parallel to the edge direction is considered to preserve the edge in the block and the two-dimensional Gaussian filter is used to smooth out the blocking effect near the block boundaries. In the second step, the lowpass and bandpass components of the Granrath's model are considered to increase contrast in a restored image. The performance comparison of the proposed method and the existing mehtods is made by a computer simulation with several block coded images. We can see that the enhancement in the subjective quality of images of the proposed method is more significant than the enhancement in the subjective quality of images of the proposed method is more significant than the existing methods, though the proposed method does not show better performance on the PSNR gain, the poor measure of picture quality for block coded images.

  • In this paper, we present a high-quality image authentication scheme based on absolute moment block truncation coding. In the proposed scheme, we use the parity of the bitmap (BM) to generate the authentication code for each compressed image block. Data hiding is used to authenticate whether the content has been altered or not. For image authentication, we embed the authentication code to quantization levels of each image block compressed by absolute moment block truncation coding (AMBTC) which will be altered when the host image is manipulated. The embedding position is generated by a pseudo-random number generator for security concerned. Besides, to improve the detection ability we use a hierarchical structure to ensure the accuracy of tamper localization. A watermarked image can be precisely inspected whether it has been tampered intentionally or incautiously by checking the extracted watermark. Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed scheme achieved high-quality embedded images and good detection accuracy, with stable performance and high expansibility. Performance comparisons with other block-based data hiding schemes are provided to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed scheme.
