  • In this paper, we propose an improved analysis of transmission power of BTHP applied into the downlink multi-user (MU) multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system. On the contrary to the conventional analysis that adopts the strong interference assumption for every users in the system, the proposed analysis approximates the characteristics of the actual interference components so that provides more accurate approximation of the transmission power than that from the conventional analysis. By computer simulations, it is observed that the proposed approximation is more accurate than the conventional one, especially in the case of 4-QAM modulation.

  • This Paper presents the result of a parametric study on the behavior of stiffened grid reinforced segmental wall resting on non-yielding foundation. The parametric study was conducted using the nonlinear finite element analysis. In the finite element analysis, the step by step construction of the wall such as backfill, block reinforcement, block/backfill and soil/reinforcement interfaces were carefully modeled. The mechanical behavior of stiffened grid reinforced segmental walls was then investigated based on the result of analysis with emphasis on the effect of reinforcement stiffness on the behavior of the wall. The results of analysis indicate that the horizontal wall displacement decrease; with increasing the reinforcement stiffness at a decreasing rate, and that the horizontal stress at the back of the reinforced soil block does not much vary with the reinforcement stiffness. It is also revealed that the calculated maximum vertical stress at the base of the reinforced soil block agrees well with that based on the Meyerhof distribution and that the reinforcement and the connection force are considerably smaller than what might be expected based on the current design assumptions. The implications of the findings from this study to current design approaches were discussed in detail.

  • A flight control system for high reliability consists of complicated redundant structures. This redundancy can improve fault tolerant characteristics of system. So, a system manager is able to choose a suitable structure using analyzed quantitative data of various redundant structures. In this paper, we analyzed redundant characteristics and reliability. We defined necessary mathematical model for analysis tool. Then we compose a reliability block diagram analysis tool applying such defined analysis model using Simulink blocks. Finally we verified the analysis tool using a commercial tool.

  • This paper adopts the system configuration to assess the reliability instead of making a fault tree (FT), which is a traditional method to analyze reliability of a certain system; this is the reliability block diagram (RBD) method. The RBD method is a graphical presentation of a system diagram connecting the subsystems of components according to their functions or reliability relationships. The equipment model for the reliability simulation is modeled based on the discrete event system specification (DEVS) formalism. In order to make various alternatives of target system, this paper also adopts the system entity structure (SES), an ontological framework that hierarchically represents the elements of a system and their relationships. To enhance the calculation time of reliability analysis, GPU-based accelerations are adopted to the reliability simulation.

  • In this study the mechanical performance of the new wave dissipating block is evaluated through experiment and numerical analysis. Also, by selecting adequate reinforcement, the improvement of the structural performance is examined. The reinforcement is designed by predicting the amount of tensile force and the location where the tensile stress develops in the new wave dissipating block through numerical analysis. The new wave dissipating block is reinforced with the ordinary steel bars and the fiber reinforced plastic(FRP) bars which have advantages in ocean environment in terms of corrosion and fatigue. The test result shows that the fracture resistance of the un-reinforced concrete block is 350 kN which is about 6.2 times that of the weight of the block. All the test blocks which are reinforced by either steel of FRP bars show strength capacity of over 900 kN which is the maximum load of the test equipment. Although the single reinforcement with larger-diameter bars has advantage in terms of construction convenience, it is recommended to use multiple number of smaller-diameter bars in order to reduce the crack width.

  • In TFT-LCD, mura is a defect which degrades the display quality. The resistance difference between gate lines is the main cause of H-Block mura. Two methods could eliminate this defect. A thinner gate layer or gate fan-out pattern decrease mura level. H-Block mura has been reduced after implementing the new schemes.

  • A signal system is critical point of transport capacity and train operation in urban rail transit. Today the moving block system by radio is taking place of the fixed block system by track circuit for efficiency and short headway in underground railway and right rail transit. In this study, assuming specification of a train, track and control system, the minimum headway on the moving block system and the fixed block system is researched for the maximum transport capacity.

  • This paper addresses a blind estimation and classification algorithm of the speech compression methods by using analysis on the structure of compressed bitstreams. Various speech compression methods including vocoders are developed in order to transmit or store the speech signals at very low bitrates. As a key feature, the vocoders contain the block structure inevitably. In classification of each compression method, we use the Measure of Inter-Block Correlation (MIBC) to check whether the bitstream includes the block structure or not, and to estimate the block length. Moreover, for the compression methods with the same block length, the proposed algorithm estimates the corresponding compression method correctly by using that each compression method has different correlation characteristics in each bit location. Experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm classifies the speech compression methods robustly for various types and lengths of speech signals in noisy environment.

  • Behavior of a rock block consisting of rock joints during excavation of an underground opening is an important factor for the mechanical stability of the opening. In this study, the behavior of a rock block under different geostatic stress and joint property conditions was analyzed quantitatively. The behavior of the rock block analyzed by 3DEC numerical analysis was compared with that of the theoretical calculation, and the error between the theoretical value and the numerical analysis result was analyzed under various geostatic stress and joint property conditions. The result of the stability analysis of a rock block showed less than 5% of error with numerical simulation result, which verified the applicability of the purposed analytic solution.
