  • The objective of this work is to analyze the macroscopic behavior of spray and injection characteristics on the DME blended biodiesel at different mixing ratios by using spray visualization and injection rate measurement system. The spray images were analyzed to a spray tip penetration, a spray cone angle and a spray area distribution at various mixing ratio of DME by weight. The influence of different injection pressure and ambient pressure on the fuel spray characteristics are investigated for the various injection parameters. In order to analyze the injection characteristics of test fuels, the fuel injection rate is measured at various blending ratio. The variation of viscosity of the blended fuel by the mixing of DME fuel shows the improved effect of spray developments. Also, it was found that the injection quantities of high blended ratio were larger than that of lower blended fuel. Also, higher blending fuel showed a faster evaporation than that of mixing ratio of test fuel because kinetic viscosity was changed by blending ratio.

  • PVA blend films were prepared by solution blending method for the purpose of useful antibiotic polymers. Characteristics properties of blending films such as elongation and tensile strength were determined. Tensile strength and elongation were rapidly reduced as increasing the blending ratio of natural polymer. Blend films were found that phase separation was occured as more than 25wt% increasing the blend ratio of chitosan. Also, The antibiotics of blend films were examined against gram(+) and gram(-) by disk susceptibility test. As a result, kind of blending films to show the highest antibiotics was chitosan 20wt% and the selectivity of mold strain was observed.

  • Seasoned laver Pyropia spp. is one of the most well-known Korean traditional seafoods, and is becoming more popular worldwide. Various mixed oils are used in the preparation of seasoned laver; however, there is no information available regarding the effects of the blending ratio of oils on the quality of seasoned laver. In this study, the effects of the blending ratio of corn, sesame, and perilla oils on the oxidation and sensory quality of seasoned laver were monitored and optimized using a response surface methodology. An increase in the proportion of corn and sesame oils resulted in an excellent oxidation induction time, whereas a high ratio of perilla oil reduced the thermal oxidative stability of the mixed oil. In the sensory test, the seasoned laver with the highest proportion of sesame oil was preferred. The optimal blending ratio (v/v) of corn, sesame, and perilla oils for both oxidation induction time ($Y_1$) and sensory score ($Y_2$) was 92.3, 6.0, and 1.7%. Under optimal conditions, the experimental values of $Y_1$ and $Y_2$ were $4.41{\pm}0.3h$ and $5.58{\pm}0.8$points, and were similar to the predicted values (4.34 h and 5.13 points). Our results for the monitoring and optimization of the blending ratio provide useful information for seasoned laver processing companies.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effects of ethanol blending ratio and fuel temperature in diesel-ethanol blended fuel on the spray-atomization characteristics in a high pressure common-rail injection system. In this work, a diesel fuel and three blended fuels were used as test fuels. Blended fuels were made by blending ethanol with a purity 99.9% to diesel fuel, from 0% to 30%. In order to keep diesel-ethanol blending stability, 5% of biodiesel fuel as volumetric ratio was added into test fuels. The fuel temperature was controled in steps with 40K, from 290K to 370K. Macroscopic spray characteristics were investigated by analyzing the spray tip penetration and spray cone angle through spray images obtained from visualization system. In addition, in order to study microscopic spray characteristics of ethanol blended fuels, the droplet diameter, was analyzed using the droplet measuring system. It is revealed that the spray tip penetration is similar regardless of ethanol blending ratio. As ethanol blending ratio is increased, the spray cone angle becomes wider. It is shown that the spray cone angle is affected by low viscosity and density of ethanol. As the fuel temperature increases, the spray tip penetration and spray cone angle become shorter and narrower respectively. The SMD of ethanol blending fuels is smaller than that of diesel fuel because of low viscosity and surface tension of ethanol.

  • Purpose: In this paper, we show our blending ratio of 10 types of Essential Oils that survives beneficial bacteria and kills harmful bacteria in the scalp, and we investigate the possibility of application of our blending ratio to the development of anti-dandruff products and the possibility of being used as a raw material for clinical beauty and customized cosmetics. Methods: The scalp microorganisms used in our study were M. furfur, S. epidermidis, E. coli, and P. nitroreducens. There are a total of 10 Essential Oils such as True Lavender, Lime, Roman chamomile, Rosemary camphor, Cedarwood, Geranium, Clove, Tea tree, Palmalosa, and Peppermint. The antibacterial test of the blended Essential Oil was carried out according to the test method of the standardized evaluation methodology of "Food and Food Additives Code". Since M. furfur is related to the growth of sebum in the scalp, in this study we used the fnLNB and the fnLNA with 20 ㎖ of whole fat cow milk added. Results: The blending ratio of EO, which inhibits dandruff-causing bacteria such as M. furfur, S. epidermidis, E. coli, and does not inhibit P. nitroreducens showing dominant growth in a healthy scalp, was B8(Clove 0.2%, Roman chamomile 0.5%, Tea tree 0.3%), B9(Geranium 0.1%, Palmarosa 0.1%, Roman chamomile 0.5%, Tea tree 0.3%), B10(Clove 0.1%, Geranium 0.1%, Palmarosa 0.1%, Roman chamomile 0.5%, Tea tree 0.2%). Conclusion: It is thought that the blending ratio of BEO obtained as a result of this study can provide a basis for use as an alternative to antibiotics in developing anti-dandruff drugs and emerge as a new alternative to solve scalp microbial imbalance. In order for EO to be used as a useful raw material for anti-dandruff preparation, researches on 1) Standardization (the effects of products differ according to the types, regions, climate, extraction methods, etc.), 2) Antimicrobial effects, 3) Safety, etc., must be established.

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the feasibility of composting of swine manure with wood chips as a bulking agent. To evaluate the optimum blending ratio of wood chip to swine manure three levels of wood chip such as 100, 150, and 200% were blended on a volume basis with 100% of swine manure was used to determine the effect of wood chip compared with sawdust as a bulking agent on composting. The maximum temperature reached during composting was 70, 58, 48, 72$^{\circ}C$ at blending ratio of 100, 150, 200, and 50WC+50SD%, respectively. The bulk density of compost was increased extremely with increasing the blending level of wood chip. The C/N ratio of final compost ranged from 18.25 to 19.82 . Heavy metal contents in the final compost were in the range of 0.05∼0.16 mg/kg, 5,86∼10.95 $\mu\textrm{g}$/kg, and 295∼440 mg/kg for Cd, Hg, and Cu, respectively. It was concluded that the blending ratio of 200:100 of wood chip and manure by volume was satisfactory for swine manure composting.

  • In order to provide fundamental information for developing reaction model in the practical blended coal power plants, effects of particle size and blending ratio on combustion characteristics and thermal reaction in co-firing with bituminous and sub-bituminous coals were experimentally investigated using a TGA and a laboratory-scale burner. Characteristic parameters including ignition, burnout temperature and activation energy were determined from TG and DTG combustion profiles. Distributions of flame length and mean particle temperature were investigated from the visualization of flames in slit-burner system. As coal particle size decreased and volatile matter content increased, characteristic temperatures and activation energy decreased. The ignition/burnout characteristics and activation energy are linearly influenced by a variation in particle size and blending ratio. These results indicated that the control of the coal blending ratio can improve the combustion efficiency for sub-bituminous coals and the ignition characteristics for bituminous coals.

  • Pyrolyzed fuel oil (PFO) and coal tar was blended in the feedstock to produce pitch via thermal reaction. The blended feedstock and produced pitch were characterized to investigate the effect of the blending ratio. In the feedstock analysis, coal tar exhibited a distinct distribution in its boiling point related to the number of aromatic rings and showed higher Conradson carbon residue and aromaticity values of 26.6% and 0.67%, respectively, compared with PFO. The pitch yield changed with the blending ratio, while the softening point of the produced pitch was determined by the PFO ratio in the blends. On the other hand, the carbon yield increased with increasing coal tar ratio in the blends. This phenomenon indicated that the formation of aliphatic bridges in PFO may occur during the thermal reaction, resulting in an increased softening point. In addition, it was confirmed that the molecular weight distribution of the produced pitch was associated with the predominant feedstock in the blend.

  • We have studied the blending effects of cis-1,4-polybutadiene (CBR) and styrene-tutadiene rubber at various blending ratios of 100 : 0, 70 30, 50 : 50, 30 : 70, 0 : 100, and of carbon black ISAF and HAP at various compounding ratios of 45 PHR, 55 PHR, 65 PHR, for tyre tread rubber. The results obtained are summerized as follows; 1. For tyre tread rubber, it was found to increased efficiency to use SBR polymer only than to use the blending ratio CB/SBR=30/70 below. But it was observed that the latter was adapted for the bus or truck tyre and the former for the passenger tyre. 2. Excellent efficiency was obtained in case of carbon black compounding ratio of 55%, and also the compounding of ISAF made better efficiency than that of HAF. 3. Carbon black was more efficient to SBR than to CB. 4. For the aging ratio, the compounding rubber of NR was the highest, and the ratio was decreased in order of the compounding rubber of oil-extended SBR or CB polymer only, the compounding rubber of non oil-extended SBR or CB polymer only, and the blending rubber.
