  • In this paper, the effects of ethanol blended gasoline on emissions and their catalytic conversion efficiencies characteristics were investigated in gasoline engine with an electronic fuel injection. The results showed that the increase of ethanol concentration in the blended fuels brought the reduction of THC and $CO_2$ emissions from the gasoline engine. THC emissions were drastically reduced up to thirty percent. And brake specific fuel consumption was increased. but brake specific energy consumption was similar level. However. unburned ethanol and acetaldehyde emissions increased. The conversion efficiency of Pt/Rh based three-way catalysts and the effect of ethanol on CO and NOx emissions were investigated by the change of engine speed. load and air/fuel ratio. Furthermore, the ethanol blended fuel results in the reduction effect of THC. CO and NOx emissions at idle speed.

  • In this study, the spray characteristics of blended fuels with biodiesel were investigated. The experiments were performed for the effect of mixing ratio and injection pressures on the spray behavior. Conventional diesel fuel and biodiesel fuel and blended fuels were used as test fuels. Through the spray visualization system, composed of a Halogen lamp and High speed camera. The process of spray injection was visualized. Fuel containing biodiesel has different spray pattern on account of the high viscosity and large surface tension. Through this experimental result, we found that, after solenoid driving pulse generates, the increase of injection pressure enables delay time to get shorter, but the increase of mixing ratio makes delay time lengthen.

  • Partial replacement of Portland cement by slag can reduce the energy consumption and $CO_2$ emission therefore is beneficial to circular economy and sustainable development. Compressive strength is the most important engineering property of concrete. This paper presents a numerical procedure to predict the development of compressive strength of slag blended concrete. This numerical procedure starts with a kinetic hydration model for cement-slag blends by considering the production of calcium hydroxide in cement hydration and its consumption in slag reactions. Reaction degrees of cement slag are obtained as accompanied results from the hydration model. Gel-space ratio of hardening slag blended concrete is determined using reaction degrees of cement and slag, mixing proportions of concrete, and volume stoichiometries of cement hydration and slag reaction. Furthermore, the development of compressive strength is evaluated through Powers' gel-space ratio theory considering the contributions of cement hydration and slag reaction. The proposed model is verified through experimental data on concrete with different water-to-binder ratios and slag substitution ratios.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the load of soil layers affected by soil depth in artificial soil alone or in blends with Loam with various ratio. The artificial soils were perlite large grain, perlite small grain, and perlite small grains blended with Loam (sand 46%, silt 40%, clay 14%) at a ratio of 8:2, 6:4, 5:5 (v/v). The soil layers were divided into a planting layer and a well-drained layer, then the weight of each layer in the air-dried state and in the field capacity were determined. The data were subjected to correlation analysis, regression analysis, and paired samples t-test. The summarized results are as follows; 1) In the air-dried state, the regression equations of the well-drained layer weight(kg/m2) in perlite large grain, planting layer weight in perlite small grain, planting layer weight in perlite small grain biended with loam(8:2, v/v), perlite small grain blended with loam(6:4, v/v), and perlite small grain blended with loam(5:5, v/v) were; 1.65824*X+0.026, 1.52292*X-0.052, 3.21468*X+0.515, 6.17549*X+ 0.083, and 6.02100*X + 33.133, respectively, where X is soil depth measured in Centimeters. 2) In the field capacity, the regression equations of the well-drained layer weight(kg/m2) in perlite large grain, planting layer weight in perlite small grain, planting layer weight in perlite small grain blended with loam(8:2, v/v), perlite small grain blended with loam(6:4, v/v), and perlite small grain blended with loam(5:5, v/v) were 5.055*X - 2.006, 7.073*X + 100.008, 8.092*X + 116.676, 10.766*X + 100.112, and 10.974*X + 124.423, respectively, where X is the soil depth measured in Centimeters. 3) All of the equations mentioned above were statistically reliable and therefore easily applicable in practical business affairs.
