항공기 내 실내공기질에 관한 고찰: 이동의 증가와 건강에 미치는 영향 및 블리드에어의 영향 (Indoor Air Quality in Aircraft: The Impact of Increased Mobility and Health Effects and the Influence of Bleed Air)

  • Background: With the rise in global mobility, aircraft indoor air quality has become a significant public health concern. This study focuses on the health implications of increased travel and bleed air-air drawn from aircraft engines for cabin pressurization and air conditioning. Objectives: This research aims to review the potential health effects related to exposure to aircraft cabin air, particularly the effects of bleed air during fume events. Methods: We conducted a literature review of existing studies on aircraft cabin air quality. We focused on both the immediate and health effects of exposure to cabin air, particularly those related to bleed air contaminants. Results: The review found a possible link between exposure to aircraft cabin air and certain health issues, especially in cabin crew and frequent flyers. There was an increased incidence of respiratory and neurological symptoms related to bleed air exposure. However, the cumulative health effects of frequent air travel remain inconclusive due to limited data. Conclusions: This study highlights the need for improving air quality in aircraft to protect public health. While further research is needed to understand the cumulative effects of frequent air travel, the reduction of exposure to bleed air contaminants should be a priority. These findings underline the need for regulatory changes and technological improvements in aircraft cabin air quality.

Doubled Thrust by Boundary Layer Control in Scramjet Engines in Mach 4 and 6

  • Boundary layer ingestion in airframe-integrated scramjet engines causes engine stall (“engine un start” hereafter) and restricts engine performance. To improve the unstart characteristics in engines, boundary layer bleed and a two-staged injection of fuel were examined in Mach 4 and Mach 6 engine tests. A boundary layer bleed system consisting of a porous plate, an air coolers, a metering orifice and an ON/OFF valve, was designed for each of the engines. First, a method to determine bleed rate requirements was developed. Porous plates were designed to suck air out of the Mach 4 engine at a rate of 200 g/s and out of the Mach 6 engine at a rate of 30 g/s. Air coolers were then optimized based on the bleed airflow rates. The exhaust air temperature could be cooled below 600 K in the porous plates and the compact air coolers. The Mach 4 engine tests showed that a small bleed rate of 3% doubled the engine operating range and thrust. With the assistance of two-staged fuel injection of H2, the engine operating range was extended to Ф0.95 and the maximum thrust was tripled to 2560 N. The Mach 6 tests showed that a bleed of 30 g/s (0.6% of captured air in the engine) extended the start limit from Ф0.48 to Ф1 to deliver a maximum thrust of 2460 N.

  • Using a cycle simulation program developed by authors, some thermodynamic characteristics of an aircraft ECS under various operating conditions are studied. When the inlet temperature of cockpit and avionics bay, as well as ram air flow, is held fixed, the effect of the change of regulated bleed pressure is examined. When the regulated bleed pressure, and the cockpit and avionics bay inlet temperature are fixed, the effect of the change of ram air flow is also investigated.

가변 입구 안내익과 블리드 공기 스케줄에 따른 터보팬 엔진에서의 천이 성능특성에 관한 수치연구 (A Numerical Study on Transient Performance Behavior of a Turbofan Engine with Variable Inlet Guide Vane and Bleed Air Schedules)

  • 본 연구에서는 가변 입구 안내익과 블리드 공기 스케줄에 따른 터보팬 엔진에서의 천이 성능특성을 수치적으로 분석하였다. 대상 엔진으로 저 바이패스비 혼합 흐름 터보팬 엔진을 선정하였다. 압축기 가변 입구 안내익에 따른 성능 변화를 고려하기 위해 평균 반경 해석법을 이용하여 압축기 성능성도를 도출하고 엔진 해석 프로그램에 입력하였다. 정상상태 조건에서 축류 압축기 서지마진 10%를 만족하도록 회전속도에 따른 가변 입구 안내익과 블리드 공기 스케줄을 각각 도출하였다. 도출된 스케줄을 이용하여 엔진 천이 성능해석을 수행하였다. 엔진 천이 성능해석 수행 결과 가변 입구 안내익을 사용하는 경우가 블리드 공기를 사용하는 경우보다 천이과정에서 높은 서지마진과 낮은 터빈 입구 온도를 보였다.

  • 본 연구에서는 엔진으로부터 나오는 고온 여압 공기를 냉각시키기 위한 열교환기 개발을 수행하였다. 장착 환경을 고려한 외부 유동 흐름 및 열교환기 내부의 유동과 열전달 특성에 대한 전산해석을 통해 열교환기의 형상 및 유로 설계를 수행하였으며 이를 검증하기 위해 사용 환경 모사 시험을 수행하여, 그 결과를 비교하였다.

  • The present study has been conducted to investigate convective heat/mass transfer in the cooling passage with bleed holes. The rotating square channel has 40.0 mm hydraulic diameter and the bleed holes on the leading surface of the channel. The hole diameter of bleed hole is 4.5mm and its spacing is ( p/d:4.9) about five times of hole diameter. Exit mass flow rate through bleed holes is $10\%$ of the main mass flow rate and relation number is changed form 0.0 to 0.4. A naphthalene sublimation technique is employed to determine the detailed local heat transfer coefficients using the heat and mass transfer analogy The cooling performance is influenced by exit mass flow rate through bleed holes and Coriolis force of rotating channel for fixed Reynolds number. The heat transfer on the leading surface is decreased due to Coriolis force. However the total heat transfer is enhanced around holes on the leading surface because of trapping flow by bleeding.

수직갱을 이용한 터널내 비정상 압축파의 피동제어 (Passive control of unsteady compression wave using vertical bleed ducts)

  • When a high-speed railway train enters a tunnel, a compression wave is generated ahead of the train and propagates along the tunnel, compressing and accelerating the rest air in front of the wave. At the exit of the tunnel, an impulsive wave is emitted outward toward the surrounding, which causes a positive impulsive noise like a kind of sonic boom produced by a supersonic aircraft. With the advent of high-speed train, such an impulsive noise can be large enough to cause the noise problem, unless some attempts are made to alleviate its pressure levels. For the purpose of the impulsive noise reduction, the present study investigated the effect of a vertical bleed duct on the compression wave propagating into a model tunnel. Numerical results were obtained using a Piecewise Linear Method and testified by experiment of shock tube with an open end. The results showed that the vertical bleed duct reduces the maximum pressure gradient of compression wave front by about 30 percent, compared with the straight tunnel without the bleed duct. As the width of the vertical bleed duct becomes larger, reduction of the impulsive noise is expected to be greater. However the impulsive noise is independent of the height of the vertical bleed duct.

  • A false signal problem of the bleed air leak detection system in a widely used modem airplane is studied in this paper. It is considered to be a problem of stability of the controller unit. An equivalent circuit is extracted from the study. The circuit is considered to be an alternative bridge. A mathematical model is derived to describe the stability of the circuit. The conclusion is drawn that the sending of the false signal is relevant to not only the sensors, but also the detector. If a parameter in the detector is readjusted, then the problem may be avoided.

  • 소형 가스터빈 엔진에 대하여 다양한 대기조건에 대하여 DYNGEN을 이용하여 비선형 동적모사를 수행하였다. 블리드 공기량의 변화가 엔진의 성능에 미치는 영향에 대하여 살펴보았다. 성능 향상을 위한 제어기 구성에 앞서 실시간 선형모델을 구하였으며 엔진로터회전수의 변화에 따른 시스템 행렬들의 적합한 변화를 통해 비선형 모사의 결과에 매우 근접하는 결과를 얻었다. 최적의 LQR 제어기를 구성하는데 있어, 연료유량만을 제어입력으로 고려한 경우와 연료유량과 블리드 공기를 동시에 제어입력으로 고려한 경우의 제어 결과 비교를 통해 단일 입력보다는 다변수 입력을 고려했을 때 연구 대상 엔진이 더 우수한 성능을 발휘함을 알았다.
