  • In case of urban blasting works at near neighbors, the size of one blasting should be minimized to reduce the vibration and noise. However, the complaints is not decreased due to increased numbers of blasting per day so that the period of blasting works become long. This case study is related to urban apartment construction site. In order to overcome the weakness of general detonators which is required many blasting times to meet the day productivity, we have been applied deck-charge blasting method using electronic detonators and then we successfully increased the day productivity with much less blasting times. Hence, we had effectively achieved the declined neighbors'complaints and shortening construction period.

  • This study is investigated the extent of the noise and ground vibration in an adjacent zone of a cattle pen and an antiquated housing structures for judgement of the spot applicability on the extents of the noise and ground vibration of the rock-splitting method by an oil pressure. It is studied by measuring and analysing in an adjacent position the extents of the noise and ground vibration according to the work process of the rock-splitting method, such as drilling, rock-splitting, arranging rock, loading and by being compared with the permitted level on the noise and ground vibration fixed at the spot. To the results, it is identified that the influence to the noise has to be considered, even if the rock-splitting method is applied as an excavation method to lower a ground vibration by the classification on blasting method of the ministry of land, transport and marine affairs.

  • To assess a various of workplace noise environment in the tunnel construction site, the measurement is performed while tunnel constructing work. This study focuses on the sound attenuation according to the sound frequency characteristics and the distance from various works in the tunnel. Also, the noise distribution while blasting work is measured according to distance in this study. In addition, the boring processing, muck treatment, and tunnel lining by distance are measured for the noise distributions.

  • An overview of the plasma rock fragmentation system, the first commercial application of plasma blasting, is presented. Plasma blasting is based on the fast delivery of stored electrical energy to fracture the rock. The capacitor bank, switching device, cable and blasting electrode employed in the system are described. Utilization of the chemical energy delivered from the electrolyte and the development of a large charge transfer switch using pseudospark enabled the commerciailzaion. The vibration and noise level of the blasting is acceptable in the most ground breaking.

  • Non-electric detonator was developed to improve the blasting efficiency of electric detonator. It is increasingly utilized in surface and tunnel blasting due to its safety in external electric shock, precise delayed time, and decrease in blasting vibration and noise. The paper describes the detonating system of non-electric detonator, principle operating and planning methods, and case history so that it can be contributed to improve blasting technology.

  • It is necessary to minimize ground vibration and noise due to blasting work in urban environment. The blast induced ground vibration and noise are generally generated by a portion of detonation energy, where most of the energy is utilized for rock breakage and movement of rock mass. Recently a blast method utilizing U-shaped steel charge holder was suggested to reduce the ground vibration without decreasing destructive power toward the free surface. In this study, single hole blasting utilizing U-shaped steel charge holder were simulated and the stress waves caused by the detonation of explosives were monitored using AUTODYN software. In order to examine the fragmentation efficiency of the U-shaped steel charge holder, one free face blasting models which adapt the blast induced stress waves were simulated by dynamic fracture process analysis (DFPA) code. In addition, the general blasting models were also simulated to investigate the fragmentation effectiveness of the U-shaped steel charge holder in rock blasting.

  • This study performed to investigate the propagation characteristics of overpressure, impulse, vibration in underwater blasting. The difference between air blasting and underwater blasting is that noise and vibration propagate through water as a medium. In some cases, the noise and vibration propagates through various media (rock, water, air, etc.). In this study, the underwater blasting was simulated using AUTODYN, and the propagation characteristics of overpressure, impulse and vibration induced by blasting were analyzed. We mainly focused on the effect of mesh size on the overpressure, impulse and peak particle velocity from the underwater blasting simulation. The numerical results indicated that the overpressure and peak particle velocity tended to decrease as the mesh size increased, while the impulse increased with the mesh size. The results also indicated that the mesh dependence varied depending on the explosive charge and scaled distance.

  • In order to predict method of blasting vibration in ground and it's resident located around blasting field in urban area, blasting vibration characteristics were measured the vibration velocity(cm/sec), vibration acceleration($cm/sec^2$), vibration acceleration level(dB) and vibration level(dB(V)). The charged powder were used to 1.25kg and measuring sites were 25 points front 4m to 90m at the ground. The correlation of vibration velocity, vibration acceleration, vibration acceleration level and vibration level by square root scaled distance and cube root scaled distance were investigated. The correlation of PPV(peak particle velocity) velocity by SRSD(square root scaled distance) and CRSD(cube root scaled distance) was 0.85 and 0.86 and the correlation of PVS(peak vector sum) velocity by SRSD and CRSD was 0.82. Also vibration acceleration, vibration acceleration level and vibration level by SRSD and CRSD was 0.61, 0.62 and 0.82, respectively. As results, the vibration velocity and vibration level(dB(V)) was showed good correlation, but the vibration acceleration and vibration acceleration level was not showed good correlation.

  • This study investigated a sound reduction degree by each soundproofing materials and the sound pressure level of a main frequency range to develop soundproofing facilities installed for reducing sound in a tunnel blasting. The frequency range and sound pressure level of soundproofing materials(eg. sand and water etc.) mainly used at a working spot were measured using the experimental apparatus considered with blasting situation. The full scale pilot test was also carried out using developed soundproofing facilities in this study. And the performance of developed soundproofing facilities was analyzed. As a result, the developed soundproofing facilities using water in sound insulation materials could reduce about 10dB(A) of blasting noise in compare with the existing soundproofing facilities.
