The Influence of Cover-crop (Vicia tetrasperma) Cultivation on the Occurrence of Major Insect Pests and their Natural Enemies in Pepper, Capsicum annum (얼치기완두 피복재배가 고추 주요 해충 및 천적 발생에 미치는 영향)

  • BACKGROUND: In organic agriculture, various cover crops have been used to control weeds. In this study, we investigated the suppressive effects of Vicia tetrasperma (L.) Schred (Eolchigi wandu) on the occurrence of major insect pests and their natural enemies in pepper. METHODS AND RESULTS: To estimate the effect of cover-crop on arthropod diversities and occurrences of insect pest in pepper. V. tetrasperma was sowed as cover-crop plot October, 2008 and 2009. Control plot was kept bare in winter season and mulched with black plastic-film before transplanting red pepper seedlings. Pepper seedlings, Capsicum annuum, were transplanted on the 19th of May, 2009 and on the 20th of May, 2010, respectively. Five Yellow sticky traps were set and changed at 7 days interval. Densities of aphids and thrips and damaged fruit rates by oriental tobacco budworm, Helicoverpa assulta, were counted. CONCLUSION(S): Populations of aphids, thrips and braconid wasps were maintained high on V. tatrasperma before transplanting pepper seedlings and in early season of pepper. However, the densities of aphids on pepper in the control plot were much higher than in the cover-crop plot in the early stage of pepper. Damaged fruit rates by both of thrips and oriental tobacco budworm were not significantly different between the two experimental plots.

Factors Affecting Emergence and Tuber Formation of Lowland Perennial Weeds (다년생(多年生) 논 잡초(雜草)의 출아(出芽) 및 괴경생성(塊莖生成)에 미치는 제요인(諸要因))

  • Several factors affecting emergence and tuber formation of lowland perennial weeds were studied at the Yeongnam Crop Experiment Station in 1988. Period of tuber germination start to final tuber varied by species. Eleocharis kuroguwai and Sagittaria trifolia required longer than 10 days at $30^{\circ}C$ for this while Cyperus serotinus and S. pygmaea needed about 4 days. Application of gibberellic acid shortened this period while Uniconazole application delayed. E. kuroguwai and C. serotinus had ability to emerge under 20cm depth placement. However, S. trifolia could not emerge under 15cm depth. All species decreased their growth with increase in planting depth. E. kuroguwai had least correlated between dry matter production and tuber formation. Clipping of above ground part negatively related with tuber formation eventhough the effect of clipping time was differed by species. The most critical clipping time was 60 days after eremergence (DAE) for E. kuroguwai and 90 DAE for C. serotinus. Covering of colored polyethylene film was also related with tuber formation with varing effects. In general, the order of effectiveness for tuber formation were black. orange. blue and red. Application of Uniconazole and Pachlobutrazol effectively controlled the formation of tuber of E. kuroguwai and this effect enhanced by early application.

Preparation of Powdered Dried Sea Mussel and Anchovy for Instant Soup (진주담치 및 마른멸치 분말수우프의 제조)

  • As one trials to utilize sea mussel and anchovy effectively, powdered instant soups were prepared and then their quality stability were examined during storage. Powdered instant soup was made by adding $3\%$ sugar, $20\%$ table salt, $5\%$ monosodium glutamate, $0.2\%$ black pepper and garlic powder to the pulverized dried sea mussel or anchovy. Powdered instant soup products, powderd products, and dried round state sea mussel or anchovy were packed with air in laminated film bag (cellophane/polyester/aluminium foil/polyester: $20{\mu}m/15{\mu}m/7{\mu}m/20{\mu}m,\;13{\times}14cm$). The contents of amino-nitrogen and volatile basic nitrogen of these products were showed little significant variations and also water activity and color value (L, a, b) of these products were little changed during storage. Thiobarbituric acid value increased up to 30 days of storage and then decreased slightly. Comparing the quality of powdered-seasoned products with that of dried round state products, there were no significant differences in stability during storage. Judging from the experimental results, the quality of powdered instant soup of sea mussel and anchovy were stable for 100 days at room temperature($25{\pm}3^{\circ}C$).

Wavelength Conversion Lanthanide(III)-cored Complex for Highly Efficient Dye-sensitized Solar Cells

  • Lanthanide(III)-cored complex as a wavelength conversion material has been successfully designed and synthesized for highly efficient dye-sensitized solar cells, for the first time, since light with a short wavelength has not been effectively used for generating electric power owing to the limited absorption of these DSSCs in the UV region. A black dye (BD) was chosen and used as a sensitizer, because BD has a relatively weak light absorption at shorter wavelengths. The overall conversion efficiency of the BD/WCM device was remarkably increased, even with the relatively small amount of WCM added to the device. The enhancement in $V_{oc}$ by WCM, like DCA, could be correlated with the suppression of electron recombination between the injected electrons and $I_3{^-}$ ions. Furthermore, the short-circuit current density was significantly increased by WCM with a strong UV light-harvesting effect. The energy transfer from the Eu(III)-cored complex to the $TiO_2$ film occurred via the dye, so the number of electrons injected into the $TiO_2$ surface increased, i.e., the short-circuit current density was increased. As a result, BD/WCM-sensitized solar cells exhibit superior device performance with the enhanced conversion efficiency by a factor of 1.22 under AM 1.5 sunlight: The photovoltaic performance of the BD/WCM-based DSSC exhibited remarkably high values, $J_{sc}$ of 17.72 mA/$cm^2$, $V_{oc}$ of 720 mV, and a conversion efficiency of 9.28% at 100 mW $cm^{-2}$, compared to a standard DSSC with $J_{sc}$ of 15.53 mA/$cm^2$, $V_{oc}$ of 689 mV, and a conversion efficiency of 7.58% at 100 mW $cm^{-2}$. Therefore, the Eu(III)-cored complex is a promising candidate as a new wavelength conversion coadsorbent for highly efficient dye-sensitized solar cells to improve UV light harvesting through energy transfer processes. Growth and Tuber Yield of Sweet Potato Slips Grown under Different Light-Emitting Diodes (LED 광질에 따른 고구마의 묘소질 및 괴근 수량성)

  • This work was conducted to investigate the field growth and yield of the sweetpotato (Ipomoea batatas) slips grown under different light emitting diodes (LEDs). Sweet potato cuttings of 3 cultivars ('Matnami', 'Shinhwangmi', and 'Yeonhwangmi') were cultivated under fluorescent lamp (FL) and several LEDs (PPF $150{\pm}5{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ at 20cm distance) in deep flow culture system for 20 days. The plants were acclimatized under sunlight for 10 days, and then cuttings (30cm length) were planted with $75{\times}25cm$ planting density on June 10th, covered with black vinyl film during growth period. Length and diameter of vine, number of root were excellent in the red plus blue (7:3) LED than the other treatments. At 30 days after planting, the survival rate in red plus blue (7:3) LED was significantly higher than that in FL and red LED, and it was not different among cultivars. Vine length, vine diameter, and number of node were not significant among LED light qualities and cultivars. After 120 days in the field cultivation, vine length, vine diameter, number of node, number of branch, and fresh weight of shoot were not significant among LED light qualities, but those except the number of branch showed significant differences among cultivars. Yield characteristics among LED light colors were not significant, but weight of storage root per plant, mean weight of storage root, and yield showed significant differences among cultivars. The yield per 10a in 'Matnami', and 'Yeonhwangmi' was significantly higher than that in 'Shinhwangmi'.

  • current mine detector can't division the section if it is conducted and it needs too much labor force and time. in addition to, if the user don't move the head of sensor in regular speed or move it too fast, it is hard to detect a mine exactly. according to this, to improve the problem using one direction ultrasonic wave sensing signal, that is made up of human body antenna part, main micro processor unit part, smart glasses part, body equipped LCD monitor part, wireless data transmit part, belt type power supply part, black box type camera, Security Communication headset. the user can equip this at head, body, arm, waist and leg in removable type. so it is able to detect the powder in a 360-degree on(under) the ground whether it is metal or nonmetal and it can express the 2D or 3D film about distance, form and material of the mine. so the battle combats can avoid the mine and move fast. also, through the portable battery and twin self power supply system of the power supply part, combat troops can fight without extra recharge and we can monitoring the battle situation of distant place at the command center server on real-time. and then, it makes able to sharing the information of battle among battle combats one on one. as a result, the purpose of this study is researching a smart wearable mine detector which can establish a smart battle system as if the commander is in the site of the battle.

Effects of Cutting Size and Planting Depth on Growth and Yield in Late-Cultivation of Sweet Potato (고구마 만기재배에서 생육 및 수량에 미치는 삽수크기 및 삽식깊이의 영향)

  • To obtain the basic information for late-cultivation of sweet potato [Ipomoea hatalas (L.) Lam. cv. 'Jinhongmi'], vine growth and storage root yield were investigated in variously cutting sizes (10, 20, and 30 cm) and planting depths (1~4 nodes in 30 cm vine) using black-film vinyl mulching cultivation ($75{\times}25\;cm$ planting density, June 20). At 30 days after planting, main vine length, number of node, and vine fresh weight were significantly affected by the cutting length, and these were significantly different 10 and 30 cm at 120 days. The vine elongation affected by planting depths showed the best growth in 2-nodes planting depth and the lowest growth in 4-nodes planting depth at 30 days, but the vine growth was not significantly different among planting depths at 120 days. Number of storage root per plant, weight of storage root per plant, mean weight of storage root and yield of storage root were increased in longer cutting length, and those in 10 cm cutting length were significantly reduced compared to the 20 and 30 cm cutting length. Number of storage root per plant in the deeper planting was much increased, but mean weight of storage root was much decreased. Yield of storage root per 10a was highest in 3-nodes planting depth. Therefore, planting methods by cutting length over 20 cm and planting depth of 2~3 nodes in late-cultivation of sweet potato will be more efficient to improve the vine growth and storage root yield.

  • A movie is a fiction made on a basis of an author's and a writer's imagination, but all sorts of properties mixed with each other and most realistically expresses the era which becomes the background of a movie and acts as a carrier that connects designers with consumers. Thus, this study was carried out to review how the fashion products that designer's intention and commercial value added are expressed in collections by comparing and analysing the costumes in the movie "The Great Gatsby" that described the life of America's upper-class in 1920s and the 04 S/S Y&Kei collection which were proceeding after getting inspiration from this movie. For this, literature materials were inspected in order to make a theoretical review on social and cultural background and costumes history background in 1920s and the photo materials on movie costume were collected and analysed using DVD video captures, as well as the photo materials on 04 S/S Y&Kei were collected and analyzed through the institute providing domestic fashion information. The following conclusion was deduced through this study. First, in 1920s which becomes the background of this study, the slim shape of Flapper which looks like a young and boy became an ideal figure condition and the straight silhouette with low waist line and the short skirt that rose to knee was popular. Second, as a result of analysing movie costume by classifying it in silhouette, colors, and materials, straight silhouette of low waistline with a near colored - tone seen in the pastel series, including white, beige, pink, and gray was mainly constituted and the metal colors like silver and gold were used. As a material, chiffon, satin, velvet, flower patterned prints, and beads were used, which represented luxurious life of women in the upper classes. Third, as a result of comparing and analysing, it turned out that there was a similarity. However, in dress collection for a heroine, some dissimilarity differentiated from a movie costumes was found out in that the dresses in collection expressed moderate beauty and modernism and elegant beauty at the same time by matching a variety of materials and using black color.

Splitting of Surface Plasmon Resonance Peaks Under TE- and TM-polarized Illumination

  • We investigate experimentally and theoretically the splitting of surface plasmon (SP) resonance peaks under TE- and TM-polarized illumination. The SP structure at infrared wavelength is fabricated with a 2-dimensional square periodic array of circular holes penetrating through Au (gold) film. In brief, the processing steps to fabricate the SP structure are as follows. (i) A standard optical lithography was performed to produce to a periodic array of photoresist (PR) circular cylinders. (ii) After the PR pattern, e-beam evaporation was used to deposit a 50-nm thick layer of Au. (iii) A lift-off processing with acetone to remove the PR layer, leading to final structure (pitch, $p=2.2{\mu}m$; aperture size, $d=1.1{\mu}m$) as shown in Fig. 1(a). The transmission is measured using a Nicolet Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) at the incident angle from $0^{\circ}$ to $36^{\circ}$ with a step of $4^{\circ}$ both in TE and TM polarization. Measured first and second order SP resonances at interface between Au and GaAs exhibit the splitting into two branches under TM-polarized light as shown in Fig. 1(b). However, as the incidence angle under TE polarization is increased, the $1^{st}$ order SP resonance peak blue-shifts slightly while the splitting of $2^{nd}$ order SP resonance peak tends to be larger (not shown here). For the purpose of understanding our experimental results qualitatively, SP resonance peak wavelengths can be calculated from momentum matching condition (black circle depicted in Fig. 2(b)), $k_{sp}=k_{\parallel}{\pm}iG_x{\pm}jG_y$, where $k_{sp}$ is the SP wavevector, $k_{\parallel}$ is the in-plane component of incident light wavevector, i and j are SP coupling order, and G is the grating momentum wavevector. Moreover, for better understanding we performed 3D full field electromagnetic simulations of SP structure using a finite integration technique (CST Microwave Studio). Fig. 1(b) shows an excellent agreement between the experimental, calculated and CST-simulated splitting of SP resonance peaks with various incidence angles under TM-polarized illumination (TE results are not shown here). The simulated z-component electric field (Ez) distribution at incident angle, $4^{\circ}$ and $16^{\circ}$ under TM polarization and at the corresponding SP resonance wavelength is shown in Fig. 1(c). The analysis and comparison of theoretical results with experiment indicates a good agreement of the splitting behavior of the surface plasmon resonance modes at oblique incidence both in TE and TM polarization.

Changes of Quality in Dried Omija (Schizandra chinensis Baillon During Storage) (건조 오미자의 저장중 품질변화)

  • This study was carried out to examine the of quality on the dried Omija according to its package materials and storage plates. The changes of moisture contents, anthocyanin content, molds damage rates, and color values were measured during storage. In the sealing up by the P.E file, the moisture contents of the dried Omija had just a little differences among the storage places, but in the gauze bag remarkably as the storage period goes on, especially in this case, 8 months later since the storage in the cool chamber, the damage rates of the dried Omija by the mold was 9.0%, twice as much as in the indoor bag packaging it was increasand after 10 months, that was lather high in the indoor and warehouse. The anthocyanin content of the dried Omija after the storage of 10 months was the highest at 0.05mm black P.E film package in the cool chamber, which was 55.7 mg/100g, but in the indoor and warehouse 39.7, 45.0mg/100g, respectively. These results show thats the storage conditions had an important effect on the quality of the dried Omija during the long-term storage.
