Virtual Brain-endoscopy is an effective method to detect lesion in brain. Brain is the most part of the human and is not easy part to operate so that reconstructing in 3D may be very helpful to doctors. In this paper, it is suggested that to increase the reliability, method of matching 3D object with the 2D CT slice. 3D Brain-endoscopy is reconstructed with 35 slices of 2D CT images. There is a plate in 3D brain-endoscopy so as to drag upward or downward to match the relevant 2D CT image. Relevant CT image guides the user to recognize the exact part he or she is investigating. VRML Script is used to make the change in images and PlaneSensor node is used to transmit the y coordinate value with the CT image. The result is test on the PC which has the following spec. 400MHz Clock-speed, 512MB ram, and FireGL 3000 3D accelerator is set up. The VRML file size is 3.83MB. There was no delay in controlling the 3D world and no collision in changing the CT images. This brain-endoscopy can be also put to practical use on medical education through internet.
Electro-Optical Camera(EOC) is the main payload of Korea Multi-Purpose SATellite(KOMPSAT) with the mission of cartography to build up a digital map of Korean territory including Digital Terrain Elevation Map(DTEM). This instrument which comprises EOC Sensor Assembly and EOC Electronics Assembly produces the panchromatic images of 6.6 m GSD with a swath wider than 17 km by push-broom scanning and spacecraft body pointing in a visible range of wavelength, 510 ~ 730 nm. The high resolution panchromatic image is to be collected for 2 minutes during 98 minutes of orbit cycle covering about 800 km along ground track, over the mission lifetime of 3 years with the functions of programmable rain/offset and on-board image data storage. The image of 8 bit digitization, which is collected by a full reflective type F8.3 triplet without obscuration, is to be transmitted to Ground Station at a rate less than 25 Mbps. EOC was elaborated to have the performance which meets or surpasses its requirements of design phase. The spectral response the modulation transfer function, and the uniformity of all the 2592 pixel of CCD of EOC are illustrated as they were measured for the convenience of end-user. The spectral response was measured with respect to each gain setup of EOC and this is expected to give the capability of generating more accurate panchromatic image to the EOC data users. The modulation transfer function of EOC was measured as greater than 16% at Nyquist frequency over the entire field of view which exceeds its requirement of larger than 10%, The uniformity that shows the relative response of each pixel of CCD was measured at every pixel of the Focal Plane Array of EOC and is illustrated for the data processing.

Intellectual property rights are gathering strength theses days. Because digital contents are easily reproduced and distributed by advanced computers and networks. Digital watermarking is one of the best solutions for this problem. Generally, frequency-domain watermarking algorithms are preferred since they are more robust than spatial-domain algorithms. However, coefficients in the frequency domain are floating-point numbers. Thus, it is not easy to manipulate those floating-point coefficients and frequency-domain watermarking algorithms have some limitations in their applications. In order to overcome this difficulty, we employ an integer transform in this paper. In addition, our proposed algerian can extract the watermark from both the spatial and frequency domains. We embed the watermark into a specific bit-plane of mid-frequency coefficients. This is equivalent to the differential energy watermarking (DEW) in the spatial domain. Our simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is imperceptible, good for the watermark payload, and robustness against various attacks. Moreover, it is more efficient than any other algorithm working in only one domain.

In this paper, we propose a novel JPEG-2000 compressed image retrieval system using feature vector extracted through partial entropy decoding. Main idea of the proposed method is to utilize the context information that is generated during entropy encoding/decoding. In the framework of JPEG-2000, the context of a current coefficient is determined depending on the pattern of the significance and/or the sign of its neighbors in three bit-plane coding passes and four coding modes. The contexts provide a model for estimating the probability of each symbol to be coded. And they can efficiently describe texture images which have different pattern because they represent the local property of images. In addition, our system can directly search the images in the JPEG-2000 compressed domain without full decompression. Therefore, our proposed scheme can accelerate the work of retrieving images. We create various distortion and similarity image databases using MIT VisTex texture images for simulation. we evaluate the proposed algorithm comparing with the previous ones. Through simulations, we demonstrate that our method achieves good performance in terms of the retrieval accuracy as well as the computational complexity.
Ferroelectric lanthanides-substituted $Bi_4Ti_3O_{12}$$(Bi_{4-x}Ln_xTi_3O_{12}, BLnT)$ thin films approximately 200 nm in thickness were deposited by metal organic chemical vapor deposition onto Pt(111)/Ti/SiO$_2$/Si(100) substrates. Many researchers reported that the lanthanides substitution for Bi in the pseudo-perovskite layer caused the distortion of TiO$_6$ octahedron in the a-b plane accompanied with a shift of the octahedron along the a-axis. In this study, the effect of lanthanides (Ln=Pr, Eu, Gd, Dy)-substitution and crystallization temperature on their ferroelectric properties of bismuth titanate $(Bi_4Ti_3O_{12}, BIT)$ thin films were investigated. As BLnT thin films were substituted to lanthanide elements (Pr, Eu, Gd, Dy) with a smaller ionic radius, the remnant polarization (2P$_r$) values had a tendency to increase and made an exception of the Eu-substituted case because $Bi_{4-x}Eu_xTi_3O_{12}$ (BET) thin films had the smaller grain sizes than the others. In this study, we confirmed that better ferroelectric properties can be expected for films composed of larger grains in bismuth layered peroskite materials. The crystallinity of the thin films was improved and the average grain size increased as the crystallization temperature, increased from 600 to 720$^{\circ}C$. Moreover, the BLnT thin film capacitor is characterized by well-saturated polarization-electric field (P-E) curves with an increase in annealing temperature. The BLnT thin films exhibited no significant degradation of switching charge for at least up to $1.0\times10^{11}$ switching cycles at a frequency of 1 MHz. From these results, we can suggest that the BLnT thin films are the suitable dielectric materials for ferroelectric random access memory applications.

Recently, as one of several methods to improve the performance of DVC(Distributed Video Coding) system, many research works are focusing on the iterative refinement of side information. Most of the conventional techniques are mainly based on the relationship between the reconstruction level and side information, or the vector median filtering of motion vectors, but, their performance improvements are restricted. In order to overcome the performance limit of the conventional schemes, in this paper, a side information generation scheme is designed by measuring the block-cost estimation. Then, by adaptively selecting the compensation mode using the received bit-plane information, we propose a block-adaptive iterative refinement which is efficient for non-symmetric moving objects. Computer simulations show that, by using the proposed refinement method, the performance can be improved up to 0.2 dB in rate-distortion.
In distributed video coding, low complexity encoder can be realized by shifting encoder-side complex processes to decoder-side. However, not only motion estimation/compensation processes but also complex LDPC decoding process are imposed to the Wyner-Ziv decoder, therefore decoder-side complexity has been one important issue to improve. LDPC decoding process consists of numerous iterative decoding processes, therefore complexity increases as the number of iteration increases. This iterative LDPC decoding process accounts for more than 60% of whole WZ decoding complexity, therefore it can be said to be a main target for complexity reduction. Previously, HDA (Hard Decision Aided) method is introduced for fast LDPC decoding process. For currently received parity bits, HDA method certainly reduces the complexity of decoding process, however, LDPC decoding process is still performed even with insufficient amount of parity request which cannot lead to successful LDPC decoding. Therefore, we can further reduce complexity by avoiding the decoding process for insufficient parity bits. In this paper, therefore, a parity request estimation method is proposed using bit plane-wise correlation and temporal correlation. Joint usage of HDA method and the proposed method achieves about 72% of complexity reduction in LDPC decoding process, while rate distortion performance is degraded only by -0.0275 dB in BDPSNR.
Endoscopic ultrasonography is a medical procedure in endoscopy combined with ultrasound to obtain images of the internal organs. It is useful to have a predictive pathological manifestation since a doctor can observe tumors under mucosa. However, it is often subjective to judge the degree of malignant degeneration of tumors. Thus, in this paper, we propose a feature analysis procedure to make the pathological manifestation more objective so as to improve the accuracy and recall of the diagnosis. In the process, we extract the ultrasound region from the image obtained by endoscopic ultrasonography. It is necessary to standardize the intensity of this region with the intensity of water region as a base since frequently found small intensity difference is only to be inefficient in the analysis. Then, we analyze the spot region with high echo and calcium deposited region by applying LVQ algorithm and bit plane partitioning procedure to tumor regions selected by medical expert. For detailed analysis, features such as intensity value, intensity information included within two random points chosen by medical expert in tumor region, and the slant of outline of tumor region in order to decide the degree of malignant degeneration. Such procedure is proven to be helpful for medical experts in tumor analysis.

Most hydro]ogic phenomena are the complex and organic products of multiple causations like climatic and hydro-geological factors. A certain significant correlation on the run-off in river basin would be expected and foreseen in advance, and the effect of each these causual and associated factors (independant variables; present-month rainfall, previous-month run-off, evapotranspiration and relative humidity etc.) upon present-month run-off(dependent variable) may be determined by multiple regression analysis. Functions between independant and dependant variables should be treated repeatedly until satisfactory and optimal combination of independant variables can be obtained. Reliability of the estimated function should be tested according to the result of statistical criterion such as analysis of variance, coefficient of determination and significance-test of regression coefficients before first estimated multiple regression model in historical sequence is determined. But some error between observed and estimated run-off is still there. The error arises because the model used is an inadequate description of the system and because the data constituting the record represent only a sample from a population of monthly discharge observation, so that estimates of model parameter will be subject to sampling errors. Since this error which is a deviation from multiple regression plane cannot be explained by first estimated multiple regression equation, it can be considered as a random error governed by law of chance in nature. This unexplained variance by multiple regression equation can be solved by stochastic approach, that is, random error can be stochastically simulated by multiplying random normal variate to standard error of estimate. Finally hybrid model on estimation of monthly run-off in nonhistorical sequence can be determined by combining the determistic component of multiple regression equation and the stochastic component of random errors. Monthly run-off in Naju station in Yong-San river basin is estimated by multiple regression model and hybrid model. And some comparisons between observed and estimated run-off and between multiple regression model and already-existing estimation methods such as Gajiyama formula, tank model and Thomas-Fiering model are done. The results are as follows. (1) The optimal function to estimate monthly run-off in historical sequence is multiple linear regression equation in overall-month unit, that is; Qn=0.788Pn+0.130Qn-1-0.273En-0.1 About 85% of total variance of monthly runoff can be explained by multiple linear regression equation and its coefficient of determination (R2) is 0.843. This means we can estimate monthly runoff in historical sequence highly significantly with short data of observation by above mentioned equation. (2) The optimal function to estimate monthly runoff in nonhistorical sequence is hybrid model combined with multiple linear regression equation in overall-month unit and stochastic component, that is; Qn=0. 788Pn+0. l30Qn-1-0. 273En-0. 10+Sy.t The rest 15% of unexplained variance of monthly runoff can be explained by addition of stochastic process and a bit more reliable results of statistical characteristics of monthly runoff in non-historical sequence are derived. This estimated monthly runoff in non-historical sequence shows up the extraordinary value (maximum, minimum value) which is not appeared in the observed runoff as a random component. (3) "Frequency best fit coefficient" (R2f) of multiple linear regression equation is 0.847 which is the same value as Gaijyama's one. This implies that multiple linear regression equation and Gajiyama formula are theoretically rather reasonable functions.
