This paper presents the stability analysis of a biped robot IWR-III. We use a foot-rotation indicator(FRI) concept to reveal the degree of stability. The foot rotation can be a barometer of postural instability, which should be carefully treated in implementing a dynamically stable walk and avoided altogether in performing a statically stable walk. The conventionally mentioned zero moment point(ZMP) criterion may not be sufficient to express the stability of a biped robot. ZMP equation needs an assumption that the supporting foot is fixed firmly to the ground during the walking. Therefore, applying the FRI concept is more desirable when a biped robot is falling down ...

This paper presents the comparison of FRI(Foot Rotation Indicator) point and ZMP(Zero Moment Point) in biped robot stability. We showed FRI may be employed as a useful tool in stability analysis in biped robot. Also, we proposed the balancing joint trajectory derived from FRI point equation for stable gait. The numerical calculation routines and walking algorithms for simulation are performed by MATLAB. The procedure is composed of the leg trajectory planning, the generation of balancing trajectory, and the verification of dynamic stability.

Our paper proposes a novel moving object tracking scheme for biped robot using a single camera. For walking control of a biped robot we analyze the dynamics of a three-dimensional inverted pendulum model. This analysis leads us a simple linear dynamics. And, the control parameter of the biped robot is derived from the feedback signal which converges the position of a image feature to the feature position of a desired image and the feedforward signal which compensates the motion component due to the moving object.

In this paper, we propose a new learning control scheme for various walk motion control of biped robot with same learning-base by neural network. We show that learning control algorithm based on the neural network is significantly more attractive intelligent controller design than previous traditional forms of control systems. A multi layer back propagation neural network identification is simulated to obtain a dynamic model of biped robot. Once the neural network has learned, the other neural network control is designed for various trajectory tracking control with same learning-base. The biped robots have been received increased attention due to several properties such as its human like mobility and the high-order dynamic equation. These properties enable the biped robots to perform the dangerous works instead of human beings. Thus, the stable walking control of the biped robots is a fundamentally hot issue and has been studied by many researchers. However, legged locomotion, it is difficult to control the biped robots. Besides, unlike the robot manipulator, the biped robot has an uncontrollable degree of freedom playing a dominant role for the stability of their locomotion in the biped robot dynamics. From the simulation and experiments the reliability of iterative learning control was illustrated.

This paper proposes the controller for biped robot using intelligent control algorithm. In order to simplify the complexity of biped robot control, manipulator of biped robot is divided into four modules. These modules are controlled by intelligent algorithm with Hierarchical Mixture of Experts(HME) using neural network. Also neural network having direct control method learns the inverse dynamics of biped robot. The HME, which is a network of tree structure, reallocates the input domain for the output by learning pattern of input and output. In this paper, as a result of learning HME repeatedly with EM algorithm, the controller for biped robot operating safety walking is designed by modelling dynamics of biped robot and generating virtual error of HME.
In this paper, we introduce a case study of developing a miniature humanoid robot that has 16 degrees of freedom and is able to perform statically stable walking. The developed humanoid robot is 37cm tall and weighs 1,200g. RC servo motors are used as actuators. The robot can walk forward and turn to any direction on even surface. It equipped with a small digital camera, so it can transmit vision data to a remote host computer via wireless modem. The robot can be operated in two modes; One is a remote-controlled mode, in which the robot behaves according to the command given by a human operator through the user-interface program running on a remote host computer, the other is a stand-alone mode, in which the robot behaves autonomously according to the pre-programmed strategy. The user-interface program also contains a robot graphic simulator that is used to produce and verify the robot's gait motion. In our walking algorithm, the ankle joint is mainly used lot balancing the robot. The experimental results shows that the developed robot can perform statically stable walking on even surface.
This paper suggests a method of the forward dynamic analysis for the computer simulation on the analysis of the dynamic behavior for biped walking robot. The equations f motion of the system or the simulation are constructed by using the Method of the multibody dynamics which is powerful method for modeling of the complex biped system. For the simplicity of simulation, we consider that the sole of the contacting foot is affected by the reaction forces for tree structure system topology instead of the addition or deletion of the kinematic constraints. The ground reaction forces can be modeled using the simple spring and damper model at the three contacting points on the sole of the foot. For minimizing the errors of numerical integration, the number of equations of motion is minimized by adding the driving constraints or a controller instead of the direct driving torques.

This paper presents a robust control method via the intelligent adaptive backstepping design technique for stable walking of nine-link biped robots with unknown model uncertainties and external disturbances. In our control structure, the self recurrent wavelet neural network(SRWNN) which has the information storage ability is used to observe the uncertainties of the biped robots. The adaptation laws for all weights of the SRWNN are induced from the Lyapunov stability theorem, which are used for on-line controlling biped robots. Also, we prove that all signals in the closed-loop adaptive system are uniformly ultimately bounded. Through computer simulations of a nine-link biped robot with model uncertainties and external disturbances, we illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control system.
This paper proposes a locomotion pattern and a control method for biped robots with curved soles. First, since the contact point of a supporting leg may arbitrarily move back and forth on the ground, we derived the desired trajectory from a model called the Moving. Inverted Pendulum Model (MIPM) where the Zero Moment Point (ZMP) exists at the supporting point and can be moved intentionally. Secondly, a biped robot with curved soles is an under-actuated system since the supporting point contacting with a point on the ground has no actuator during the single supporting phase. Therefore, this paper proposes a computed-torque control for this under-actuated system using decoupled dynamic equations. A series of computer simulations with a 7-DOF biped robot with curved soles shows that the proposed walking pattern and control method are effective and allow the biped robot to walk fast and stably, and move more like human beings. Also, it is shown that the curved sole shape has superior energy consumption compared to flat soles, and greater efficiency in ascending and descending the stairs.
This paper deals with the gait generation of Biped Walking Robot (IWR-III) to have a continuous walking pattern like human. For this, trajectory planning with the consideration of kick action is done in each walking step, and the coordinate transformation is done for simplifying the kinematics. The trunk moves continuously for all walking time and moves toward Z-axis. Balancing motion is acquired by FDM(Finite Difference Method) during the walking. By combining 4-types of pre-defined steps, multi-step walking is done. Using numerical simulator, dynamic analysis and system stability is confirmed. Walking motion is visualized by 3D-Graphic simulator. As a result, the motion of balancing joints can be reduced by the trunk ahead effect during kick action, and impactless smooth walking is implemented by the experiment.
