The Regulation of Stress Responses by Non-tandem CCCH Zinc Finger Genes in Plants (식물에서 non-tandem CCCH zinc finger 그룹 유전자에 의한 스트레스 반응 조절)

  • In plants, there are many CCCH zinc finger proteins consisting of three cysteine residues and one histidine residue, which bind to zinc ions with finger configuration. CCCH-type zinc finger proteins are divided into tandem CCCH-type zinc finger (TZF) and non-TZF proteins: TZF proteins contain exactly two tandem CCCH-type zinc finger motifs whereas non-TZF proteins have fewer or greater than two CCCH-type zinc finger motifs. The functions of TZF genes, especially plant-specific RR-TZF genes, have been well studied in several plants, whereas the functional roles of non-TZF genes have not been adequately researched compared to TZF genes. Many non-TZF genes have been identified as being involved in the responses to biotic and abiotic stresses, such as pathogen, high salt, drought, cold, heat, and oxidative stresses. Some non-TZF proteins bind to RNA and are involved in the post-transcriptional regulation of stress-responsive genes in the cytoplasm. In addition, other non-TZF proteins act as transcriptional activators or repressors that regulate the expression of stress-responsive genes in the nucleus. Despite these studies, stress signal transduction and upstream and downstream genes of non-TZF genes have not been sufficiently researched, suggesting that additional studies of the functions of non-TZF genes' functions in plants' stress responses are needed. In this review, we describe non-TZF genes involved in biotic abiotic stress responses in plants and their molecular functions.

  • This work concerns with the biotic study of the polychaeta population in the intertidal flat, Inchon, Korea. Magelona japonica was found to be the most abundant species, comprising 54% of total organisms examined. The presence of large numbers of Magelona japonica and Sternaspis scutata, high value of species diversity indices (H(s)), and the absence of the particular pollution indicator species, except a few Prinospio pinnata, suggest that the study area appears not to be polluted during the study period.

  • The effects of biotic elicitors, organic acids, and environmental changes on the growth of Panex. ginseng hairy roots were investigated in the shaking flask culture. Among the organic acid tested, gluconic acid was found to be the most efficient in the hairy roots growth. And citric and succinic acid were facilitated the growth of hairy roots.

  • WRKY transcription factors are known to be involved in many different biological processes including plant response to biotic stress, abiotic stress, and plant development. WRKY proteins are extensively studied in Arabidopsis. Recently, reports on WRKY proteins are rapidly increasing in the other plant species, especially in rice. Therefore, this review will discuss the function of rice WRKY proteins reported so far.

  • Lactic acid producing bacteria were isolated from baby feces and characterized to be used as a probiotic with anti Helicobacter pylori functions. The selected bacteria had inhibition activity on the adherance and growth of H. pylori. These bacteria had additional beneficial characteristics for the probiotic such as antibacterial activity, antitumor activity, immunostimulation activity, resistance to antibiotic and bile salt, ability to bind to the intestinal cells, and safe for the human use.

  • A convenient total synthesis of a new 7-deoxyidarubicinone ivative21,the aglycon of the anticancer anti-biotic idarubicin analogue,is described.Keyfeatures of the synthesis are the Friedel-Crafts acylation and the functionalization of an A-ring si de chain. A synthon 14 for the A and B rings was prepared from intermediate 6 in five steps.
