  • Heterogeneous wireless sensor networks (HEWSN) is a kind of wireless sensor networks (WSN), each sensor may has different attributes, HEWSN has been widely used in many aspects. Due to sensors are deployed in unattended environments and its resource constrained feature, the design of security and efficiency balanced authentication scheme for HEWSN becomes a vital challenge. In this paper, we propose a secure and lightweight user authentication and key agreement scheme based on biometric for HEWSN. Firstly, fuzzy extractor is adopted to handle the user's biometric information. Secondly, we achieve mutual authentication and key agreement among three entities, which are user, gateway and cluster head in the four phases. Finally, formal security analysis shows that the proposed scheme defends against various security pitfalls. Additionally, comparison results with other surviving relevant schemes show that our scheme is more efficient in term of computational cost, communication cost and estimated time. Therefore, the proposed scheme is well suitable for practical application in HEWSN.

  • A novel authentication mechanism is biometric authentication where users are identified by their measurable human characteristics, such as fingerprint, voiceprint, and iris scan. The technology of biometrics is becoming a popular method for engineers to design a more secure user authentication scheme. In terms of physiological and behavioral human characteristics, biometrics is used as a form of identity access management and access control, and it services to identity individuals in groups that are under surveillance. In this article, we review the biometric-based authentication protocol by Althobati et al. and provide a security analysis on the scheme. Our analysis shows that Althobati et al.'s scheme does not guarantee server-to-user authentication. The contribution of the current work is to demonstrate this by mounting threat of data integrity and bypassing the gateway node on Althobati et al.'s scheme. In addition, we analysis the security vulnerabilities of Althobati et al.'s protocol.

  • Over recent years there has been considerable growth in interest in the use of biometric systems for personal authentication. Biometrics is a field of technology which has been and is being used in the identification of individuals based on some physical attribute. By using biometrics, authentication is directly linked to the person, rather than their token or password. Biometric authentication is a type of system that relies on the unique biological characteristics of individuals to verify identity for secure access to electronic systems. In 2013, Althobati et al. proposed an efficient remote user authentication protocol using biometric information. However, we uncovered Althobati et al.'s protocol does not guarantee its main security goal of mutual authentication. We showed this by mounting threat of data integrity and bypassing the gateway node attack on Althobati et al.'s protocol. In this paper, we propose an improved scheme to overcome these security weaknesses by storing secret data in device. In addition, our proposed scheme should provide not only security, but also efficiency since sensors in WSN(Wireless Sensor Networks) operate with resource constraints such as limited power, computation, and storage space.

  • Health care has attracted a lot of attention, recently due to an increase in life expectancy and interest in health. Various biometric data of the user are collected by using the air pressure sensor, gyro sensor, acceleration sensor, and heart rate sensor to perform the Smart Health Care Activity Tracker function. Basically, smartphone application is made and tested for biometric data collection, but the Arduino platform and bio-signal measurement sensor are used to confirm the accuracy of the measured value of the smartphone. Use the Google Maps API to set user goals and provide guidance on the location of the user and the points the user wants. Also, the basic configuration of the main UI is composed of the screen of the camera, and it is possible for the user to confirm the forward while using the application, so that accident prevention is possible.

  • Recently, the bio-sensing information systems for collecting and analysing human body information of a patient in real time in the field of medical information and healthcare information service are continuously increasing. Specially, various wearable devices such as a wrist, a garment, and a skin attachment type for supporting health information of a mobile user are rapidly increasing. Until now, there is no patch-type biometric information service model. Therefore, this paper presents a biometric information system model and the application examples to support biometric information sensing and health information service of mobile user with digital patch system as a new biometric information system. As a result, through this research, research issues based on digital patch system are searched to suggest the direction of continuous research.

  • According to the recent trends in the growing elderly population, the chronically ill have increased. Thus the importance of the health care issues for them has emerged. In this paper, we want to implement a chronic disease management system using smart mobile devices. Proposed chronic disease management system is consisted of the biometric sensor, smart mobile devices, the patient management server, patient management DB, and patient symptoms analysis agent. The biometric sensor detects a biological information. Smart mobile devices receive the patient information from the sensor and transmit the information to the patient management server. The patient management server, patient management DB, and patient symptoms agent analysis agent analyze to process data delivered through a wireless communication network. Bio-signals includes modules of ECG, blood pressure, blood sugar and PPG. We are able to determine the current health status by monitoring measured biometric data through chronically ill health management system. We will focus on the individual service to be appropriate for a patient group in a mobile environment.

  • Biometric-based authentication can provide a strong security guarantee of the identity of users. However, the security of biometric data is particularly important as any compromise of the biometric data will be permanent. In this paper, we propose a secure and efficient protocol to transmit fingerprint images from a fingerprint sensor to a client by exploiting the characteristics of the fingerprint images. Because the fingerprint sensor is computationally limited, a standard encryption algorithm may not be applied to the full fingerprint images in real-time to guarantee the integrity and confidentiality of the fingerprint images transmitted. To reduce the computational workload on the resource-constrained sensor, we apply the encryption algorithm to a nonce for integrity and to a specific bitplane of each pixel of the fingerprint image for confidentiality. Experimental results show that the integrity and confidentiality of the fingerprint images can be guaranteed without any leakage of the fingerprint ridge information and can be completed in real-time on embedded processors.

  • The numerous improved schemes of remote user authentication based on password have been proposed in order to overcome the security weakness in user authentication process. Recently, some of biometric-based user authentication schemes to use personal biometric information have been introduced and they have shown the relatively higher security and the enhanced convenience as compared to traditional password-based schemes. These days wireless sensor network is a fundamental technology in face of the ubiquitous era. The wireless sensor networks to collect and process the data from sensor nodes in increasing high-tech applications require important security issues to prevent the data access from the unauthorized person. Accordingly, the research to apply to the user authentication to the wireless sensor networks has been under the progress. In 2010, Yuan et al. proposed a biometric-based user authentication scheme to be applicable for wireless sensor networks. Yuan et al. claimed that their scheme is effectively secure against the various security flaws including the stolen verifier attack. In this paper, author will prove that Yuan et al.'s scheme is still vulnerable to the password guessing attack, user impersonation attack and the replay attack, by analyzing their security weakness.

  • Recently, as interest in health increases, various wearable devices such as smart watch and smart band which can measure user's biometric information are being studied. Conventional wearable devices service the measured biometric information in a form that provides simple monitoring, disease prevention, and exercise amount. However, the user is Lack to deal with the dangerous situation. In this paper, we propose a hazard notification system to address these problems. The biometric information measured by the acceleration sensor and the heart rate sensor is transmitted to the application through the Arduino in real time. It identifies the risk situation through sensor priority measurement and risk situation identification algorithm. If a dangerous situation occurs, a notification message is sent to the guardian indicating the current location of the user. Therefore, it can be expected that if a dangerous situation occurs to a user who needs protection, he can respond promptly.
