고해상도 방사선 영상을 위한 $Gd_2O_3:Eu^{3+}$ 나노 형광체 제조 및 광학적 특성 (Fabrication of $Gd_2O_3:Eu^{3+}$ Nano Phosphor and Optical Characteristics for High Resolution Radiation Imaging)

  • In this paper, we have synthesized $Gd_2O_3:Eu^{3+}$ nano phosphor particle using a low temperature solution-combustion method. We have investigated the structure and the luminescent characteristic as the sintering temperature and europium concentration. From XRD(X-ray diffraction) and SEM(scanning electron microscope) results, we have verified that the phosphor particle was fabricated a spherical shape with $30{\sim}40nm$ particle size. From the photoluminescence results, the strong peak exhibits at 611 um and the luminescent intensity depends on europium concentration. $Gd_2O_3:Eu$ fine phosphor particle has shown excellent luminescent efficiency at 5 wt% of europium concentration. The phosphors calcinated at $500^{\circ}C$ have possessed the x-ray peaks corresponding to the cubic phase of $Gd_2O_3$. As calcinations temperature increased to $700^{\circ}C$, the new monoclinic phase has identified except cubic patterns. From the luminescent decay time measurements, mean lifetimes were $2.3{\sim}2.6ms$ relatively higher than conventional bulk phosphors. These results indicate that $Gd_2O_3:Eu$ nano phosphor is possible for the operation at the low x-ray dose, therefore, the application as medical imaging detector.

Decay Resistance of the Acetylated Tropical Hardwood Species

  • Chemical modification of wood is an effective method to enhance the biological durability of wood with no toxic effect on the environment. In this study, wood of Triplochiton scleroxylon was modified using acetylation techniques. A total of one hundred wood blocks, (each 20×20×60 mm) obtained from a 22-year old T. scleroxylon tree were conditioned and acetylated at 120℃ in a bioreactor containing acetic anhydride for 60, 120, 180, 240 and 300 minutes. The percentage weight gain of acetylated wood was determined. The untreated (control) and treated blocks were exposed to Pleurotus ostreatus (white rot fungus) and Fibroporia vaillanti (brown rot fungus) after which moisture content (MC) and weight loss (WL) was monitored for 16 weeks. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics at p<0.05 level of significance. The percentage weight gain of acetylated wood samples increased with time from 10.4% (60 minutes) to 22.7% (300 minutes). MC of untreated blocks inoculated with Pleurotus ostreatus was significantly higher than those of Fibroporia vaillantii after 16 weeks exposure. There was no significant difference in the MC of the of the acetylated samples for the two fungi after 300 minutes reaction time. The WL of untreated blocks inoculated with Fibroporia vaillantii was higher than those of Pleurotus ostreatus, however, the two fungi showed no significant difference in the WL for the acetylated samples after 16 weeks exposure. Acetylation prevents moisture absorption and inhibition of fungi growth in acetylated wood compared to untreated wood, thereby enhancing the durability of Triplochiton scleroxylon.

삼 인피섬유 혼합율이 종이의 보존 특성에 미치는 영향 (Permanent Characteristics of the Handsheet Mixed with Hemp Bast Fiber)

  • Despite the ubiquity of electronic media, paper is still the most generally readable carrier of information. Because paper materials are deteriorated by chemical, biological and physical factors over time, there have been major concerns about the decay of large collections of books, publications, old maps, historical artifacts, and written records. Therefore, manufacture of permanent paper has been a highly debated issue in paper conservation research. Through the use of permanent paper, our new records, journals, library books, art works, and all culturally and historically important documents can be preserved. In this study, handsheets were made of mixture of hemp bast fiber produced by soda pulping and HwBKP varying the amount of hemp. Physical, mechanical and optical properties of each handsheet were examined. As the ratio of hemp bast fiber increased, mechanical properties were improved significantly, but opacity decreased. After aging, the optical properties of the handsheets mixed with the hemp bast fiber more decreased than those of the non-mixed handsheet. The more mixture ratio of hemp bast fiber increased, the more decreasing rate of optical properties increased. As a result, it was confirmed that hemp bast fiber is a very promising resource for the manufacturing of permanent paper.

Performance-based and damage assessment of SFRP retrofitted multi-storey timber buildings

  • Civil structures should be designed with the lowest cost and longest lifetime possible and without service failure. The efficient and sustainable use of materials in building design and construction has always been at the forefront for civil engineers and environmentalists. Timber is one of the best contenders for these purposes particularly in terms of aesthetics; fire protection; strength-to-weight ratio; acoustic properties and seismic resistance. In recent years, timber has been used in commercial and taller buildings due to these significant advantages. It should be noted that, since the launch of the modern building standards and codes, a number of different structural systems have been developed to stabilise steel or concrete multistorey buildings, however, structural analysis of high-rise and multi-storey timber frame buildings subjected to lateral loads has not yet been fully understood. Additionally, timber degradation can occur as a result of biological decay of the elements and overloading that can result in structural damage. In such structures, the deficient members and joints require strengthening in order to satisfy new code requirements; determine acceptable level of safety; and avoid brittle failure following earthquake actions. This paper investigates performance assessment and damage assessment of older multi-storey timber buildings. One approach is to retrofit the beams in order to increase the ductility of the frame. Experimental studies indicate that Sprayed Fibre Reinforced Polymer (SFRP) repairing/retrofitting not only updates the integrity of the joint, but also increases its strength; stiffness; and ductility in such a way that the joint remains elastic. Non-linear finite element analysis ('pushover') is carried out to study the behaviour of the structure subjected to simulated gravity and lateral loads. A new global index is re-assessed for damage assessment of the plain and SFRP-retrofitted frames using capacity curves obtained from pushover analysis. This study shows that the proposed method is suitable for structural damage assessment of aged timber buildings. Also SFRP retrofitting can potentially improve the performance and load carrying capacity of the structure.

Synthesis and biological evaluation of tricarbonyl technetium labeled 2-(4-chloro)phenyl-imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine analog (99mTc-CB257) as a TSPO-binding ligand

  • In our previous study, tricarbonyl $^{99m}Tc$-labeled TSPO-binding ligand, named $^{99m}Tc$-CB256, having positively charge (+1) was investigated but did not show promising results in in vivo environment despite of a nanomolar binding affinity for TSPO. Because the overall positively charge of $^{99m}Tc$-CB256 would likely interrupt its target protein uptake, we herein designed the neutral tricarbonyl-$^{99m}Tc$ labeled TSPO-binding ligand ($^{99m}Tc$-CB257, 1). $^{99m}Tc$-CB257 was prepared by the facile incorporation of the $[^{99m}Tc(CO)_3]^+$ into a N-(hydroxycarbonylmethyl)-2-picoly moiety in CB257. The radiochemical yield of $^{99m}Tc$-CB257 after HPLC purification was $54.1{\pm}2.4%$ (decay corrected, n = 3). The authentic Re-CB257 (2) was synthesized by using $(NEt_4)_2[Re(CO)_3Br_3]$ in 69.0% yield. The binding affinity of 2 for TSPO was measured in leukocyte and showed approximately 280 times higher than that observed for the positively charged (+1) ligand, Re-CB256 ($K_i=0.57{\pm}0.06nM$ versus $159.3{\pm}8.7nM$, respectively). Our results indicated that 1 can be considered potentially as a new SPECT radiotracer for TSPO-rich cancer and provides the foundation for further in vivo evaluation related with abnormal TSPO-overexpression environments.

Cultivation and Nutritional Value of Prominent Pleurotus spp.: An Overview

  • Pleurotus species are commercially essential mushrooms and widely cultivated throughout the world. The production of Pleurotus mushrooms alone accounts for around 25% of that total cultivated mushrooms globally. In America and Europe, Pleurotus species are considered specialty mushrooms, whereas, in Korea, their cultivation is economically profitable, and it is one of the highly consumed species. Pleurotus species are predominantly found in tropical forests and often grow on fallen branches, dead and decaying tree stumps, and wet logs. Biographical studies have shown that the Pleurotus genus is among the more conspicuous fungi that induce wood decay in terrestrial ecosystems worldwide due to its formidable lignin-modifying enzymes, including laccase and versatile peroxidases. Pleurotus species can be grown easily due to their fast colonization nature on diversified agro-substrates and their biological efficiency 100%. Pleurotus mushrooms are rich in proteins, dietary fiber, essential amino acids, carbohydrates, water-soluble vitamins, and minerals. These mushrooms are abundant in functional bioactive molecules, though to influence health. Pleurotus mushrooms are finding unique applications as flavoring, aroma, and excellent preservation quality. Apart from its unique applications, Pleurotus mushrooms have a unique status delicacy with high nutritional and medicinal values. The present review provides an insight into the cultivation of Pleurotus spp. using different agro-waste as growth substances paying attention to their effects on the growth and chemical composition.

피레스로이드계 살충제 퍼메트린이 Heliothis virescens 중추신경세포에 있는 나트륨채널에 작용하는 기작을 전기생리학적으로 연구 (Modification of Insect Sodium Currents by a Pyrethroid Permethrin and Positive Cooperativity with Scorpion Toxins)

  • 본 연구는 피레스로이드계 살충제인 퍼메트린이 Heliothis virescens의 중추신경세포의 나트륨채널에 어떻게 작용하는 가를 전기생리학적으로 관찰하였다. 퍼메트린은 나트륨채널의 꼬리전류(INa-tail)를 지속적으로 증가시켰으며 이러한 비정상적인 나트륨 전류증가가 나방류의 신경계에 과도한 흥분을 일으겨 살충작용을 하는 것으로 생각된다. 이러한 살충작용은 전갈독과 함께 사용했을때 약 8배의 증가가 있었음을 확인하였다. 전갈독이 살충제의 독성을 강화하는 분자생리학적 기전연구가 계속되면 해충방제에 많은 기여를 할 것으로 생각된다.

Pantoea agglomerans S59-4를 이용한 마늘 푸른곰팡이병의 생물학적 방제 (Biological Control of Garlic Blue Mold using Pantoea agglomerans S59-4)

  • 마늘 저장병을 일으키는 푸른곰팡이병의 생물적 방제를 위하여 마늘 근면으로부터 부패억제효과가 우수한 Pantoea agglomerans S59-4(Pa59-4)를 선발하였다. 길항균 Pa59-4의 푸른곰팡이병에 대한 적정처리농도는 $10^7\sim10^8$ cfu/$m\ell$이었으며, Pa59-4의 처리효과는 병원균의 접종농도가 증가됨에 따라 감소되었다. 길항균 Pa59-4의 현탁액에 마늘을 침지 처리할 경우 저장 중 부패를 90%억제하였으며, 종구 분의 처리하여 파종하였을 때에도 무처리구 부패율이 86.7%인데 비해 Pa59-4 처리시 부패율이 23.1%로 부패를 현저히 감소시켰다. 마늘처리부위에서의 길항균의 밀도변동을 알아보기 위하여 항생제 마커로서 pimaricin과 vancomycin을 선발하였고 이들 항생제가 포함된 배지상에서 길항균 Pa59-4의 밀도변동을 저온조건과 상온조건으로 나누어 조사하였을 때 상처를 낸 마늘표면에서는 처리 후 30일까지도 밀도가 계속하여 증가하였으며, 저온 조건하에서는 처리 후 15일까지 증가하다가 그 이후에는 감소되는 것으로 나타났다. 길항균 Pa59-4의 산업화를 위하여 증량 제로 white carbon을 첨가하여 만든 미생물제제를 처리할 경우 저장 중 마늘부패를 40~50% 줄일 수 있었다. 이상의 결과로써 길항균 Pa59-4는 마늘저장 중 부패를 줄일 수 있는 유망한 길항균으로 판단되었다.

엇갈이배추 재배기간 중 살균제 Amisulbrom의 생산단계 잔류허용기준 설정 (Establishment of Pre-Harvest Residue Limit(PHRL) of the Fungicide Amisulbrom during Cultivation of Winter-Grown Cabbage)

  • 본 연구에서는 엇갈이배추 재배기간 중 살균제 amisulbrom을 살포하고, 농약 살포 후 0(2시간 이내), 1, 3, 5, 7 및 10일에 엇갈이배추 시료를 채취하여 amisulbrom을 분석하고 amisulbrom의 생물학적 반감기를 산출하여 생산단계 농약 잔류허용기준(PHRL; Pre-Harvest Residue Limit)을 설정하였다. 엇갈이배추에 잔류한 amisulbrom은 acetonitrile과 dichloromethane으로 각각 추출 및 분배를 진행하여 HPLC-UVD로 분석하였다. Amisulbrom의 분석정량한계는 0.04 mg/kg이었으며, 평균 회수율은 0.4 및 2.0 mg/kg의 두 수준에서 각각 $93.7{\pm}2.3%$$100.0{\pm}1.3%$이었다. Amisulbrom을 기준량으로 1회 살포 시 엇갈이배추 중의 생물학적 반감기는 포장 1 및 2에서 각각 3.7일과 4.1일로 계산되었으며, 증체량에 따른 희석효과가 amisulbrom의 잔류량 감소에 주된 인자로 작용하지는 않았다. 잔류감소 회귀식을 이용한 생산단계 농약 잔류허용기준은 수확 10일전 8.86~9.47 mg/kg, 또는 5일전에 4.21~4.35 mg/kg으로 제안하였다.

고구마의 저장(貯藏) 및 이용(利用)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) -제삼보(第三報) : 감마선조사(線照射)와 고구마의 저장(貯藏)- (Studies on the Storage and Utilization of Sweetpotatoes (III) Gamma-Irradiation and Storage of Sweetpotatoes)

  • 고구마 저장중의 성분변화(成分變化), 연부병(軟腐病)에 대한 감수성(感受性) 및 연부병균포자(軟腐病菌胞子)의 치사(致死)에 미치는 방사선(放射線)($^{60}Co-{\gamma}$)의 영향을 조사하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1) $^{60}Co-{\gamma}$선조사(線照射)에 의하여 고구마의 수용성당(水溶性糖)은 증가하고 환원형(還元型) ascorbic acid는 현저히 감소하였다. 2) 조사선량(照射線量)이 높을수록 直後)의 호흡율(呼吸率)은 증가하나 시간이 경과됨에 따라 고선량(高線量)의 조사구(照射區)에서는 조직(組織)의 갈변(褐變)과 아울려 호흡율(呼吸率)이 감소하였다. 3) 고선량(高線量)($2.0{\times}10^5$ rad 이상)의 조사(照射)는 고구마 저장(貯藏)중 냉해(冷害)의 영향과 같이 연부병균(軟腐病菌)의 감염율(感染率)을 증가시켰다. 4) 고구마연부병균(軟腐病菌)인 Rhizopus nigricans 포자(胞子)의 평균치사선량(平均致死線量)은 $3{\times}10^5$ rad이며 $1.25{\times}10^5$ rad에서 완전사멸(完全死滅)되었다.
