Purpose: The matching of the optical center and the pupil center was measured by photographs in wearing glasses. In this study, the influences of the induced prism by the mismatching are studied. Methods: 74 subjects (148 eyes) who were spectacles wearer were participated in this study. The mean age was $29.19{\pm}12.22$ years (range 19-55 years). The facial photographs of subjects were taken while wearing spectacles. The matching of the corneal reflected image and optical center of the spectacle lens in the horizontal deviations, and the vertical deviations were measured by the observation of the photo image. The prisms induced in accordance with various frame type were calculated from the mismatching deviations. Results: The binocular horizontal deviations were $1.55{\pm}1.70mm$ for the metal frame, $1.71{\pm}2.21mm$ for the clings type plastic frame, and $1.15{\pm}1.38mm$ for the plastic frame. In the horizontal direction induced prism, the ratio over the tolerance was 23%. The ratio were the 17.6% at the BI prism, and 5.4% at the BO prism. The binocular vertical deviation comparisons were $3.93{\pm}1.91mm$ for the metal frame, $5.79{\pm}1.93mm$ for the clings type plastic frame, and 1$6.01{\pm}2.94mm$ for the plastic frame. In the vertical direction induced prism, the ratio over the tolerance was 44.6%. Based on the refraction power, the ratio were 12.2% at -0.25${\leq}-3.00$, and 32.4% at -3.00${\leq}-12.00D$. Conclusions: The induced prisms in the horizontal direction were much in the BI prism. The binocular vertical deviations of the glasses.
Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the effect of induced ametropia on static posture for body balance. Methods: Twenty subjects (10 males, 10 females) of average age $23.4{pm}2.70$ years were participated and ametropia(binocular myopia; BM, simple myopic anisometropia; SMA, binocular hyperopia; BH, and simple hyperopic anisometropia; SHA) were induced with ${pm}0.50D$, ${\pm}1.00D$, ${\pm}1.50D$, ${\pm}2.00D$, ${\pm}3.00D$, ${\pm}4.00D$, ${\pm}5.00D$, respectively. General stability (ST), weight distribution index (WDI), and fall risk index (FI) were measured using TETRAX the biofeedback systems. Each index of the body balance was evaluated for 32 seconds in each ametropic condition and those value was compared with the value in fully corrected condition. Results: The ST showed significant increase from +0.50 D under condition of BM, from +1.00 D under condition of SMA, from -1.00 D under condition of BH, and from -1.50 D under condition of SHA compared with under condition of fully corrected condition, respectively. The FI showed significant increases from +4.00 D under condition of BM, from -1.00 D under condition of BH, and from -1.50 D under condition of SHA. The WDI show no change in all ametropia condition. Conclusions: Whatever ametropia is, uncorrected refractive error could reduce the general stability of body balance and increase the falling risk.
Purpose: Stereopsis is one of primary characteristics for assessment of binocular function. The purpose of this study was to determine the possible relationship between the degree of exophoria and stereoacuity at near. Methods: 110 exophores (male n=71, female n=39, mean $age{\pm}SD=11.30{\pm}1.47$ years) without amblyopia, strabismus, and ocular and systemic pathology were studied. Subjects were also excluded if they had visual acuity poorer than 0.8 in either eye or vertical phoria greater than 1 prism diopter. Clinical tests were performed for near phorias by von Graefe technique using a Digital Refractor (CDR-3100, Huvitz, Korea) with chart (Predio CDC-4000, Huvitz, Korea), and for stereoacuity using the Titmus fly. Results: A one-way analysis of variance revealed that mean values of the stereoacuity classified according to the degrees of the exophoria were not significantly different (p>0.05). Conclusions: Based on the result of this study, it was found that there was no relationship between the degree of exophoria and stereoacuity.

Purpose: The present study was conducted to investigate whether the directions of eye movement in playing computer games for certain period affected the change of near point of convergence (NPC) and fusional reserve (FR) or not. Methods: Total 40 subjects in 20s who have the visual acuity of 1.0 or higher without any ocular disease and accommodative dysfunction were asked to successively play computer games. After the subjects were moving eyes in horizontal and vertical directions for 40 and 90 minutes, their horizontal fusional reserves, vertical fusional vergence and near point of convergence were measured. Results: The near point of convergence showed a tendency to be receded after computer gaming in the horizontal and vertical directions, and both of horizontal and vertical fusional reserves were significantly reduced. The range of declined fusional reserves and receded near point of convergence after computer gaming for 90 minutes was smaller than those after computer gaming for 40 minutes. The change of binocular vision was affected by the horizontal eye movement rather than the vertical movement when analyzed by the direction of eye movement. Conclusions: This study revealed that the change in FR and NPC was different along with dominant direction of eye movement during visual display terminal (VDT) tasks. Therefore, the adjustment of VDT working time is required to prevent the dysfunction of binocular vision according to the dominant direction of eye movement during VDT task.
Purpose: This study was to investigate visual performance and subjective satisfaction with multifocal soft contact lenses at near works in university students. Methods: In a cross-over study design, 26 students (6 male, 20 female) who did not have any ocular disorder with at least 20/20(1.0) binocular vision were fitted with singlevision lenses (SofLens$^{TM}59$, Bausch + Lomb Co. USA) or multifocal lenses (SofLens Multifocal, Bausch + Lomb Co. USA). After 2 weeks, visual performance assessments included visual acuity, stereoacuity and contrast sensitivity function at distance and near. Near point of accommodation, accommodative facility, near point of convergence, vergence facility and near range of clear vision at near were examined. Students' satisfaction and preference were measured using survey questionaries. Results: Subjects maintained at least 20/20 binocular vision with multifocal and single-vision lenses at distance and near. There was no difference between multifocal and single-vision lenses in stereoacuity, contrast sensitivity function and vergence facility at far and near. The near point of accommodation, accommodative facility, near point of convergence and the near range of clear vision with multifocal lenses were better than single-vision lenses. On the survey questionaries, subjects reported that they preferred and satisfied with multifocal lenses with near works, and single-vision lenses with distance works. Conclusions: The majority of university students preferred multifocal to single vision lenses because multifocal lenses provided better visual performance at near works. This study suggests that multifocal lens is helpful for young adult in prolonged near works.
Purpose: When we look at the object, we used the dominant eye mainly. For this reason, a prescription of the dominant eye is an important factor for glasses and contact lenses. This study evaluated visual acuity differences between dominant and nondominant eyes through analyzing refractive power changes in both eyes by the ages. Methods: This study was performed to investigate the relationship between refractive error and dominant eye which had the superiority in the function of binocular. 186 subjects without ocular disease were examined on the dominant eye. The dominant eye was examined by the Hole-in-the-card test. For the consistency of the measurements, we tested refractive power in three times by the same person. Results: Using SPSS, the relationship between vision and the dominant eye was analyzed. 135 people of the whole subjects have the dominant eye on right. The Number of the non-dominant eye is 51. We were divided into 3 types, the group under the age of 10 that begins to expose environment factor affect on vision (the average age $8.8{\pm}1.18$) and the age group of 10 to 20 that begins to change refractive power in earnest (the average age $14.1{\pm}2.58$) and the group after the age 20 that began to stabilize vision (the average age $51.8{\pm}17.51$). The visual acuity of dominant eye was higher than non-dominant eye in all age groups. Nevertheless, these results were not statistically significant. Mean astigmatism of dominant eye was smaller than the non-dominant eye, and this is significant, statistically (p=0.017<0.05). Conclusions: It is expected that the balanced eye with a lower level of astigmatism has a more possibility become a dominant eye.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to explore the effect of artificially decreased eye in normal vision on eye-hand coordination (EHC) when using the Lee-Ryan Eye-Hand Coordination Test recently reported. Methods: Eleven adults with normal vision aged $29.46{\pm}5.94$ years participated for this study where a non-dominant eye artificially induced moderate refractive amblyopic vision at near by adding a plus lens conducted EHC tasks and then did the test again under normal vision following 2 weeks. To investigate the ability of EHC, 7 tasks including individually different level of difficulty in the Lee-Ryan EHC Test were selected to compare and analyze EHC in terms of two independent variables such as time taken and the number of errors. Results: In time taken, subjects with artificially decreased vision took more time than normal vision under monocular conditions (p=0.013), while those with the decreased vision completed their tasks faster than normal vision under binocular conditions (p=0.001). In the number of errors, subjects with the decreased vision made more mistakes (p<0.001) as shown in time taken, whereas there was no difference between monocular and binocular viewing conditions in the decreased vision. Conclusions: Unlike previous EHC tests including limitations for application, deficit in EHC can be screened by the Lee-Ryan EHC Test developed based on simple computer-based system. Therefore, it is considered that further studies relevant to deficits in visual function such as amblyopia will be carried out in clinics as well as research.
3D visual fatigue is known as one of the most important factors that interfere the commercial success of 3D contents. Vergence-accommodation conflict, which is known to occur when an observer watches an image containing binocular disparity presented on a 3D display, has been suggested as a major cause of 3D visual fatigue. This implies that any image incorporating binocular disparity might cause 3D visual fatigue. In order to reduce 3D visual fatigue, it would be necessary to consider indirect ways of reducing 3D visual fatigue as well as eliminating the direct causes of 3D visual fatigue. We have examined the effect of the variables that are expected to affect subjective 3D visual fatigue and these variables included the relative disparity contained in an image, viewing distance and viewing angle. We have also figured out the proper levels of the variables required to minimize 3D visual fatigue. The results indicate that observers began to report significant 3D visual fatigue when the crossed disparity contained in an image exceeded 7.22' and the vertical viewing angle was larger than 15 degree.
As a variety of HMD(Head Mounted Display) has come out, the production of 3D images onto which VR(Virtual Reality) technologies are grafted has been contributed to activating the production of image contents depending on a tangible or immersing type. VR-based image contents have enlarged their applicability across the entertainment industry from animation and game to realistic images. At the same time, the solution development for producing VR image contents has also gained elasticity. However, among those production solutions which have been used until now, fixed stereo camera based photographing has a limit that the binocular disparity of a user is fixed. This does not only restrict a way of expression a producer intends to direct, but also may cause the effect of 3D or space not to be sensed enough as view condition is not considered enough in a user's side. This study is aimed at resolving with skills applying in the latter part of 3D image production the problem that convergence points may be adjusted with restriction, which tends to happen at the time of the production of VR image contents. The later stage of the 3D imaging work analyzes and applies to game engines the significance of adjusting convergence points through the visualization of binocular disparity so that it is available to implement a function that the points could be controlled at random by a user.
Faecal analysis was carried out to identify the diet composition of Eptesicus serotinus after collecting the faeces from 25 female bats. Five bats were captured at a bridge where a colony of E. serotinous was found in Andong city, Gyeongbuk, every month from May to September 2014. A total of 100 faeces were collected and the parts of insects obtained from the faeces were examined using a high-resolution microscope (50 ${\times}$ binocular microscope) and then the orders of the insects were identified by the characteristics of the parts of the insect (mouthpart, leg, wing, antenna, elytra, etc.). According to the results of the faecal analysis, 4 orders: Coleoptera, Hymenoptera, Diptera and Hemiptera were used as food resource of E. serotinus. Coleoptera was found in May, July, August, and September. Interestingly, only Coleoptera were found in May and July. Hemiptera, Diptera, and Hymenoptera were found to be used as food resources in September, June, and August.
