  • 본 연구에서는 PZT를 이용한 Bimorph Cantilever형 진동센서의 동특성을 모달해석하고 이를 압전세라믹의 센서방정식과 연계하여 센서출력의 정밀해를 구하였다. 그리고 이론식에 대한 시간응답 특성 및 주파수응답 특성을 알아보고 각각의 특성을 만족시키기 위한 센서의 최적설계 기법을 컴퓨터 Simulation을 통하여 알아보았다. 그리고 PZT를 이용한 Bimorph Cantilever형 진동센서를 직접 제작하고 그 실험적 데이터를 수식적 데이터와 비교하여 이론식의 타당성을 검증하였다.

압전 세라믹 트랜스듀서의 Tone-Burst법에 의한 주파수 응답특성 (Frequency Response Characteristics by Using Tone-Burst Method for Piezoelectric Ceramic Transducer)

  • The frequency response characteristics of a bimorph type PZT piezoelectric transducer was investigated. In this study, function generator which generates short burst signal, plane reflection plate and oscilloscope were used to measure the characteristics of piezoceramic ultrasonic transducer. The resonant frequency of a bimorph type piezoceramic transducer which is acquired by using Tone-Burst Method had good agreement with the measured results from spectrum analyzer.

Design of a Bimorph Piezoelectric Energy Harvester for Railway Monitoring

  • Wireless sensor network is one of prospective methods for railway monitoring due to the long-term operation and low-maintenance performances. How to supply power to the wireless sensor nodes has drawn much attention recently. In railway monitoring, the idea of converting ambient vibration energy from vibration of railway track induced by passing trains to electric energy has made it a potential way for powering the wireless sensor nodes. In this paper, a bimorph cantilever piezoelectric energy harvester was designed based on a single degree-of-freedom model. Experimental test was also performed to validate the design. The first natural frequency of the bimorph piezoelectric energy harvester was decreased from 117.1 Hz to 65.2 Hz by adding 4 gram tip mass to the free end of the 8.6 gram energy harvester. In addition, the power generation of the piezoelectric energy harvester with 4 gram tip mass at resonant frequency was increased from 0.14 mW to 0.74 mW from $2.06m/s^2$ base excitation compared to stand-alone piezoelectric energy harvester without tip mass.

Electrical Properties of (Ba,Ca)(Ti,Zr)O3 Ceramics for Bimorph-type Piezoelectric Actuator

  • In this study, lead-free $(Ba_{0.85}Ca_{0.15})(Ti_{1-x}Zr_x)O_3$ ceramics and a bimorph-type piezoelectric actuator were fabricated using the normal oxide-mixed sintering method, and their dielectric properties, microstructure, and displacement properties were investigated. From the results of X-ray diffraction, the pattern of the specimen has a pure perovskite structure. In addition, no secondary impurity phases were found. The excellent piezoelectric coefficient of $d_{33}=454pC/N$, the electromechanical coupling factor $k_p=0.51$, the dielectric constant ${\varepsilon}_r=3,657$, the mechanical quality factor $Q_m=239$, and $T_c$(Tetragonal-Cubic) =$90^{\circ}C$ were shown at x= 0.085. ${\Delta}k_p/k_p20^{\circ}C$ and ${\Delta}f_r/f_r20^{\circ}C$ showed the maximum value of -0.255 and 0.111 at $-20^{\circ}C$ and $80^{\circ}C$, respectively. The maximum total-displacement was $60{\mu}m$ under the input voltage of 50 V. As a result, it is considered that lead-free $(Ba_{0.85}Ca_{0.15})(Ti_{1-x}Zr_x)O_3$ ceramics is a promising candidate for piezoelectric actuator application for x= 0.085.

바이몰프형 밴딩 액츄에이터를 이용한 선집속형 초음파 트랜스듀서의 초점 거리 제어 (Focal Length Control of Line-focus Ultrasonic Transducer Using Bimorph-type Bending Actuator)

  • 초음파트랜스듀서는 초점거리의 제어를 위해서 각 진동요소에 전기회로를 이용한 위상가중치를 부가하는 방식을 사용하고 있다. 그러나 이러한 방법은 진동요소가 증가함에 따라 전기회로가 더욱 복잡해진다. 본 연구에서는 바이몰프형 액츄에이터를 신호의 송수신을 하는PVDF의 뒷부분에 삽입하여 선집속형 트랜스듀서를 제작하였다. 이 트랜스듀서를 사용하여 액츄에이터에 인가되는 전압 변화에 의해 기계적으로 초점거리를 제어할 수 있었다. 이 방법을 사용한 결과 수중에서 선집속형 초음파 트랜스듀서의 초점거리를 곡률 반경의 10%범위까지 제어 가능함을 확인하였다.

  • Expressions for the displacement of a bimorph, one end fixed and the other free, has been introduced when sinusoidal inputs were applied to the ceramic plates on a thin metal plate. Maximum displacements at the free end and strains at the position of strain gage attached were measured when various wave forms, voltages, and frequencies were applied to the bimorph whose length is 6.6[cm], width 2.5[cm], and thickness 0.0365[cm]. Under the constant voltage ( $70[V_{peak}]$ ), the strains and the displacements at the free end were larger than the case of the sinusoidal input when the square wave was applied and were smaller when triangular wave. It was shown that the displacements at the free end and the strains of the gage position were increased as the applied voltage in the range of $30-90[V_{peak}]$ and effective length were increased. And it was also found that the resonant frequency of a bimorph was decreased as its effective length was increased, and that the displacements and the strains were maximum at the resonant frequency.

Dynamic analysis of piezoelectric perforated cantilever bimorph energy harvester via finite element analysis

  • This article presents a numerical analysis to investigate the natural frequencies and harmonic response of a perforated cantilever beam attached to two layers of piezoelectric materials by using the finite element method for the first time. The bimorph piezoelectric is composed of 3 layers; two of them at the outer are piezoelectric, and the inner isotropic material. A higher order 3-D 20-node solid element that exhibits quadratic displacement behavior is exploited to discretize the isotropic layer, and coupled piezoelectric 3D element with twenty nodes is used to mesh the top and bottom layers. CIRCU94 element is added to act as a resistor part of the model. The proposed model is validated with previous works. The numerical parametric studies are presented to illustrate the effects of perforation geometry, the number of rows, the resistance on the natural frequencies, frequency response, and power. It is found that the thickness has a positive relationship with the natural frequency. Perforations help in producing higher voltage, and the best shape is rectangular perforations, and to produce higher voltage, two rows of rectangular perforations should be applied.

화학적 성분 분석능력을 가진 원자 현미경의 제작 (A micromachined cantilever for chemically sensitive scanning force microscope applications)

  • This paper describes a novel concept of a chemically sensitive scanning force microscope (CS-SFM). It consists of the conventional SFM and the time-of-flight mass spectrometer (TOF-MS). A switchable cantilever (SC) fabricated by the micromachining technology combines each advantage of two completely different systems, SFM and TOF-MS. The CS-SFM offers to produce both images of topography and chemical information simultaneously. First we employed a rotatable tip holder based on 4 piezotube actuators for demonstration of the possibility of the CS-SFM concept. Second the CS-SFM concept is optimized with the micromachining technology. The micromachined SC with an integrated bimorph actuator and a piezoresistive strain sensor provides a reasonable switching speed of ${\sim}10$ ms which is very attractive for the CS-SFM application. The SC is currently being integrated in an ultra-high-vacuum system to perform various experiments.

  • Micro robots have been developed for many applications: medical, industrial, military, and so on. A small mobile robot was built and it has three legs made of bimorph piezoelectric actuators. It proceeds by vibrating the rear leg and it rotates by vibrating one of the front legs. The locomotion of the robot is described by relative position of mass center and the friction between the legs and the floor. This paper describes the principles of locomotion and modeling of the robot Modeling was simulated to investigate the dynamics of its mobility. The simulation results verified the modeling by showing similar movement of the robot as measured. It remained, however, several problems through experiments such as crooked direction of forward movement and proceeding speed.

탄소나노튜브 작동기의 이론적 해석 (Theoretical Analysis of Carbon Nanotube Actuators)

  • Carbon nanotube actuator, working under physical conditions (in aqueous solution) and converting electrical energy into mechanical energy directly, can be a good substitute for artificial muscle. The carbon nanotube actuator simulated in this paper is an isotropic cantilever type with an adhesive tape which is sandwiched between two single-walled carbon nanotubes. For predicting the static and dynamic characteristic parameters, the analytical model for a 3 layer bimorph carbon nanotube actuator is developed by using Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The governing equation and boundary conditions are derived from energy principles. The induced displacements of the theoretical model are presented in order to investigate the performance of the carbon nanotube actuator with different control voltages. The developed model presents invaluable means for designing and predicting the performance of carbon nanotube actuator that can be used in artificial muscle applications.
