Evaluation of Image Transmission for Underwater Acoustic Communication

  • Underwater acoustic(UWA) communication is one of the most difficult field because of several factors such as multipath propagation, high temporal and spatial variability of channel conditions. Therefore, it is important to model and analyze the characteristics of underwater acoustic channel such as multipath propagation, transmission loss, reverberation, and ambient noise. In this paper, UWA communication channel is modeled with a ray tracing method and applied to image transmission. Quadrature phase shift keying(QPSK) and multichannel decision feedback equalizer(DFE) are utilized as phase-coherent modulation method and equalization technique, respectively. The objective is to improve the performance of vertical sensor array than that of single sensor in the viewpoint of bit error rate(BER), constellation output, and received image quality.

A Reduced Complexity Decoding Scheme for Trellis Coded Modulation

  • In this paper, we propose a technique used to simplify the trellis diagram, thus, reduce the complexity of Viterbi decoder in term of the number of Compare-Select (CS) operations needs in decoding process. It is shown that if the branch metrics are properly decomposed into orthogonal components. The trellis diagram can be modified that each original state with large number branches terminating to it can be broken into a number of sub-states having smaller number of branches terminating to them. Simulation results shown that the newly proposed technique can be used reduced the complexity of 8 and 16 PSK-TCMs without degrading the BER performance.

  • This paper introduces an encoder design method of Turbo TCM (Trellis Coded Modulation) with symbol puncturing. TTCM consists of two simple trellis codes in parallel and modulator. To obtain an good encoder, we calculate the free distance by the assumption that the punctured symbol is transmitted from the subset that consist of signals with the same systematic bit at random. We develop a search program to find the component encoder which maximize the free distance. Especially, for 8-PSK with code rate 2/3, we search for the component codes. We find a new encoder which has better BER performance than that of Robertson′s encoder. We verify the results through the simulation."

  • In this paper, a zigbee system is based on IEEE 802.15.4 is a technology. It is a wireless communication and Ubiquitous Sensor Network which we have been concern about. It attempts to provide a low data rate, low power, low cost and short sensor wireless networking on the device-level communication. These devices are likely to operate in offices and factories. In this paper, we introduce some receiver schemes and show a BER performance.

  • We propose a data rate increasing technique for T-DMB (terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting) system. With the application of hierarchical modulation, it is possible to increase data rate and improve services. We conducted the performance analysis of the proposed hierarchical modulation in AWGN channel and showed the BER analysis. The simulation results show that the proposed method shows possibilities to increase the data rate with a moderate degradation of the existing system.

  • We consider some adaptive iteration schemes that provide lower complexity of the iterative receiver by reducing unnecessary iterations. While conventional iterative receiver considers only fixed number of iterations, we apply adaptive iteration schemes, taking into account quality of the received frame. Based on simulation results, proposed schemes reduce average number of iterations while maintaining BER performance compared to the conventional scheme.

  • In this paper we propose a decoding algorithm of Ungerboeck TCM/PSK in the concept of Radix-trellis, which has been applied to the decoding of convolutional codes for the high speed decoding. As an example we choose 16-state trellis coded 8-ary PSK. For Radix-4 and Radix-16 trellis decoding, we explain the path metric(PM) and the branch metric(BM) calculation. By using the simulation, we evaluate the bit error rate(BER) performance according to the number of binary digits for I-Q value, PM and BM registers. The proper number of binary digits of each register has been derived.

Simple and Efficient Stopping Criteria for W-CDMA Turbo Decoding (W-CDMA 터보디코딩을 위한 효율적인 Stopping Criteria)

  • In this paper, we propose new simple and efficient stopping criteria for W-CDMA turbo decoding. The new criteria are based on the sum of logarithm of absolute extrinsic information values and the count of one-estimations calculated after each component decoder. The calculation of the proposed criteria can be made simpler by summing one of ten values without any penalty. This Proposed method can be implemented with negligible overhead and no extra memory. Simulation results on W-CDMA standard shows that the number of iterations required is reduced compared to the existing stopping criteria without degrading the BER performance. Reduced iterations and simple operations make the proposed criteria desirable for low-power turbo decoder.

  • 본 논문에서는 직접확산방식 무선 LAN의 이기종간 간섭특성에 관하여 검토를 하였다. 그 결과 일대일의 통신을 하는 2종의 무선 LAN에 있어서 변조 파라미터의 다른 두 종류의 무선LAN을 D/U비가 15dB이상이 되도록 조합함으로써 전송효율 특성은 동일 시스템의 두조를 사용하는 것보다도 개선되는 것을 알았다. 또한, 이기종간 간섭모델을 상정하여 디지털 신호처리해석을 사용하여 무선 LAN의 이기종간 간섭특성에 대한 비트 에러율(BER) 및 전송효율 특성을 구했다. 계산결과는 측정 결과와 거의 일치하고 이기종간 간섭 환경에서의 일대일 통신에 있어서 전송효율 특성을 보다 명확히 하였다. 이상의 결과는 이기종간 간섭파에 있어서 무선 LAN의 통신 특성의 추정에 유효하다고 생각된다.

  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive Beamforming Algorithm, called MC-LMS, for adaptive antenna applied to an MC-CDMA system. New method for updating the weight vector based on the MSE criterion is derived. Computer simulations show that MC-LMS algorithm is capable of rejecting co-channel interference that affects the MC-CDMA system. Thus, the BER performance of the MC-CDMA system is much higher than that of the MC-CDMA system without using adaptive antenna and that of the DS-CDMA system with adaptive antenna in multi-path Rayleigh fading channel.
