The mechanical response of concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) columns subjected to pure compression or uniaxial bending was studied in depth over the last decades. However, the available research results on CFST columns under biaxial bending are still scarce and the lack of experimental tests for this loading situation is evident. At the same time, the design provisions in Eurocode 4 Part 1.1 for verifying the stability of CFST columns under biaxial bending make use of a simplistic interaction curve, which needs to be revised. This paper presents the outcome of a numerical investigation on slender CFST columns subjected to biaxial bending. Eccentricities differing in minor and major axis, as well as varying end moment ratios are considered in the numerical model. A parametric study is conducted for assessing the current design guidelines of EN1994-1-1. Different aspect ratios, member slenderness, reinforcement ratios and load eccentricities are studied, covering both constant and variable bending moment distribution. The numerical results are subsequently compared to the design provisions of EN1994-1- 1, showing that the current interaction equation results overly conservative. An alternative interaction equation is developed by the authors, leading to a more accurate yet conservative proposal.
A15052/AFRP laminates were developed principally to obtain a material with good fatigue strength, in which possible cracks would grow very slowly. Weight savings of more than 30% should be attainable in practice. Also, the crack bridging fibers could still was carry a significant part of the load over the crack, thus the COD and stress intensity factor was reduced at the crack tip. A15052/ AFRP laminates consists of three thin sheets of 5052-H34 aluminum alloy and two layers of [0] unidirectional aramid fiber prepreg. The cyclic-bending moment test was investigated based on applying the five kinds of bending moments. The size of the delamination zone produced between 5052-H34 aluminum alloy sheets and fiber-adhesive layers was measured from ultrasonic C-scan pictures taken around the fatigue crack. In addition, the relationship between the cyclic-bending moment and the delamination zone size was studied and the effect of fiber bridging mechanism was also considered.

A branched crack in a semi-infinite plate under uniform tension and bending moment is considered in this study By using the superposition, the stress and moment intensity factors for the branched crack subjected to uniform tension and bending moment we evaluated. The stress intensity factors we obtained by using the finite element method and the J-based mutual integral. The moment intensity factors are calculated by extrapolating the values of the moment new the crack tip. Numerical results lot the normalized stress and moment Intensity factors we shown as functions of the ratio of branched crack length to main crack length and the branching angle.
The Pipe bending process using high frequency local induction heating is an advanced technique to bend pipes with a small bending radius and a large diameter. Even though the pipe bending process is a quite widespread engineering practice, it depends heavily upon trial and error method by field engineers with several years of experience. So it is necessary to develop an integrated methodology for optimum design of the pipe bending process. During hot pipe bending using induction heating, outward wall thickness of a pipe is thinned due to tensile stress and the reduction of wall thickness is not allowed to exceed 12.5%. Taguchi method and dynamic reverse moment is proposed to maintain a reduction ratio of thickness within 12.5%, when D/t ratio is high. An application of the proposed approach was compared with those of the finite element analysis and has good in agreements.
In this paper the bending collapse characteristics of 6XXX series aluminum rectangular tubes were studied with a pure bending collapse test rig which could apply the pure bending moment without imposing additional shear and tensile forces. Under the pure bending moment, there occured three kinds of bending collapse modes-local buckling delayed buckling and tensile failure-depending on the a, b, t (depth width thickness) and material properties. Experimental results are compared with the results of finite element method and other methods.

Corrosion of the headed studs shear connectors is an important factor in the reduction of the durability and mechanical properties of the steel-concrete composite structure. In order to study the effect of stud corrosion on the mechanical properties in the negative moment region of steel-concrete composite beams, the corrosion of stud was carried out by accelerating corrosion method with constant current. Static monotonic loading was adopted to evaluate the cracking load, interface slip, mid-span deflection, and ultimate bearing capacity of four composite beams with varying corrosion rates of headed studs. The effect of stud corrosion on the stiffness of the composite beam's hogging moment zone during normal service stage was thoroughly examined. The results indicate that the cracking load decreased by 50% as the corrosion rate of headed studs increase to 10%. Meanwhile, due to the increase of interface slip and mid-span deflection, the bending stiffness dropped significantly with the same load. In comparison to uncorroded specimens, the secant stiffness of specimens with 0.5 times ultimate load was reduced by 25.9%. However, corrosion of shear studs had no obvious effect on ultimate bending capacity. Based on the experimental results and the theory of steel-concrete interface slip, a method was developed to calculate the bending stiffness in the negative bending moment region of composite beams during normal service stage while taking corrosion of headed studs into account. The validity of the calculation method was demonstrated by data analysis.

In design of sport footwear, bending stiffness of its toe part is an important factor though it can be hardly measured. This paper introduces a device for measuring the bending stiffness. The device is simply designed with aluminum frames, one AC motor, two load-cells, one encoder and control hardwares. The mechanism measuring the bending moment of a shoe is described. Then, it was used to observe how the midsole material and design of a sports shoe affect on its bending stiffness. For the experiments, various specimens prepared, where each midsole of the specimens is different in terms of material, thickness and hardness. With those specimens, experiments were performed by using the device and then the bending stiffness was computed by applying the least square curve fitting after the bending moment data were measured. The specimen with Poly-urethane(PU) midsole has the higher bending stiffness than the one with Phylon(PH) midsole, and the midsole thickness affects more on the bending stiffness than the midsole hardness. Based on those results, it can be concluded that the measurement device can provide consistent bending stiffness data to sports footwear and the bending stiffness of a footwear measured by the developed device can be used as a major parameter in the footwear design.
In this paper, a modeling method for the bending vibration analysis of rotating Timoshenko beams with concentrated mass and mass moment of inertia is presented. The shear and rotary inertia effects become critical for the accurate estimation of the natural frequencies and mode shapes as the slenderness ratio decreases. The natural frequencies obtained by using the Timoshenko beam theory are lower than those by using the Euler beam theory. The critical angular speed, which does not exist only with the concentrated mass, exists with the concentrated mass moment of inertia.
Application the pile group foundation to reduce overall settlement of the foundation and also avoid a very fruitful settlement of foundations, inconsistent was carried out. In such a case, in event that the Foundation, not as a mere pile group, which as a system consisting of a broad foundation with pile Group, economic design criteria will be provided in spite of high safety. A new approach in the design of the Foundation can be introduced as the piles are just a tool to improve the parameters of soil hardness; that it can work with detachable piles from raft. Centralized arrangement of piles as the most optimal layout of piles in reducing inconsistent settlement, which is the lowest value of resulting layout in this differential settlement. Using the combination of piles connected and disconnected to form the raft, bending moment created in the raft is reduced. It also concentrated arrangements have greatest effect in reducing amount of moment applied to the raft.
This paper investigates the design using wind-moment method for semi-rigid un-braced steel frames bending on weak axis. A limiting sway method has been proposed to reduce the frame sway. Allowance for steel section optimization between moment of inertia on minor axis column and major axis beam was used in conjunction with slope-deflection analysis to derive equations for optimum design in the proposed method. A series of un-braced steel frames comprised of two, four, and six bays ranging in height of two and four storey were studied on minor axis framing. The frames were designed for minimum gravity load in conjunction with maximum wind load and vice-versa. The accuracy of the design equation was found to be in good agreement with linear elastic computer analysis up to second order analysis. The study concluded that the adoption of wind-moment method and the proposed limiting sway method for semi-rigid steel frame bending on weak axis should be restricted to low-rise frames not more than four storey.
