Despite of decrease in shear and moment strengths, most steel structural designers use web openings in beams because of economical benefit and requirement. The purpose of this study is to suggest the method of reinforcement of H-shape steel beams with a rectangular web opening. If shear predominates over bending, it is necessary to consider all possible combinations of shear force and bending moment acting at the opening. In this paper, the ultimate strength and behavior of perforated beams have been investigated according to parameters (ratio of M/V, opening width within opening height ratio D/h, various reinforcing types A/B/C/D/M/N/W). The results of this study are as follows ; 1. Deformation of H-shape steel beams with a rectangular web opening was greatly affected by not only bending but also shear. 2. SB1-2/3 series have little difference in the reinforced efficiency, but SB1-2E/3E series have difference in the reinforced efficiency according to the reinforcement type. 3. Efficiency of SB1-2E/3E series is determined by reinforcing types, which RB1-2E-B/M/C and RB1-3E-M/D/C specimens have good efficient. Reinforcing type of perforated beams chooses efficient method according to ratio of M/V and D/h.
This paper shows an optimal design for reinforced concrete rectangular combined footings based on a criterion of minimum cost. The classical design method for reinforced concrete rectangular combined footings is: First, a dimension is proposed that should comply with the allowable stresses (Minimum stress should be equal or greater than zero, and maximum stress must be equal or less than the allowable capacity withstand by the soil); subsequently, the effective depth is obtained due to the maximum moment and this effective depth is checked against the bending shear and the punching shear until, it complies with these conditions, and then the steel reinforcement is obtained, but this is not guaranteed that obtained cost is a minimum cost. A numerical experimentation shows the model capability to estimate the minimum cost design of the materials used for a rectangular combined footing that supports two columns under an axial load and moments in two directions at each column in accordance to the building code requirements for structural concrete and commentary (ACI 318S-14). Numerical experimentation is developed by modifying the values of the rectangular combined footing to from "d" (Effective depth), "b" (Short dimension), "a" (Greater dimension), "${\rho}_{P1}$" (Ratio of reinforcement steel under column 1), "${\rho}_{P2}$" (Ratio of reinforcement steel under column 2), "${\rho}_{yLB}$" (Ratio of longitudinal reinforcement steel in the bottom), "${\rho}_{yLT}$" (Ratio of longitudinal reinforcement steel at the top). Results show that the optimal design is more economical and more precise with respect to the classical design. Therefore, the optimal design presented in this paper should be used to obtain the minimum cost design for reinforced concrete rectangular combined footings.

The mechanical response of concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) columns subjected to pure compression or uniaxial bending was studied in depth over the last decades. However, the available research results on CFST columns under biaxial bending are still scarce and the lack of experimental tests for this loading situation is evident. At the same time, the design provisions in Eurocode 4 Part 1.1 for verifying the stability of CFST columns under biaxial bending make use of a simplistic interaction curve, which needs to be revised. This paper presents the outcome of a numerical investigation on slender CFST columns subjected to biaxial bending. Eccentricities differing in minor and major axis, as well as varying end moment ratios are considered in the numerical model. A parametric study is conducted for assessing the current design guidelines of EN1994-1-1. Different aspect ratios, member slenderness, reinforcement ratios and load eccentricities are studied, covering both constant and variable bending moment distribution. The numerical results are subsequently compared to the design provisions of EN1994-1- 1, showing that the current interaction equation results overly conservative. An alternative interaction equation is developed by the authors, leading to a more accurate yet conservative proposal.

The current specifications for bridge decks requires the same amount of upper and lower reinforcement mats. There have been many empirical activities that the partial elimination of upper reinforcing bars was not caused the structural integrity of a deck. A simplified method is derived based on thin plate theory for three and four-girder-span bridge decks. A simplified method for bridge deck considering the effect of girder deflection is proposed based on a closed-form solution that shows good agreement with the results of finite element models. In this research, a new design approach for deck slabs is proposed based on the simplified method. The negative bending moments in a deck can be evaluated with the simplified method based on the position of a wheel load, the aspect ratio and relative stiffness and the span length. This new approach can lead to a significant reduction of the quantity of the top reinforcing steel bars in a deck. Reducing the quantify of the top reinforcement not only reduces the construction costs for bridge decks, but also reduces the corrosion of reinforcement to a minimum.
This paper presents a study that attempted to improve the site applicability of profile sheets and check the effects of bending reinforcement in composite profiled beams, and consequently, to suggest an improved modular-type CB2 and two types of bending reinforcement methods. As a result of the reinforcing and reforming modular profiled beam experiment conducted, CBIIshowed an adequate deformation capacity as well as a sufficient plastic plateau at the maximum load and thereafter. For all the specimens, an insignificant modular slip occurred while linear relations were kept constant, at up to approximately 50% of the maximum load and at constant linear relations. The experimental values were very low. Probably, due to the small-scale experiment, the area of the concrete for the concrete filling and covering might have been insufficient, which might have led to the failure to improve the strength. Comparing the results with the standard design stress, all the specimens-except for T16 and B16-indicated more than 0.9. Based on the standard design stress, the reinforced modular profiled beam was consideredto have positive applicability.

The reinforcing steel process is composed of the development of placing drawing, cutting and bending, and the placement and fabrication of the reinforcement, and is participated in by reinforcement detailer, the fabricator and placer. Because the reinforcing steel process-from estimating and rebar detailing, to production, material tracking, billing, and general accounting-is conducted by many participant, reinforcement details based on building code and reinforcing bar detailing standards are essential. The process, however, holds some problems. Building code has been revised recently, and the utilization of placing drawings was proved to be low, and the reinforcement estimating in early stage of the process is below what is required for placement. Therefore, in this study, a survey was conducted to the reinforcement detailer, the fabricator and placer of domestic construction industry. According to the analysis of the survey, the reinforcement details on site was not standardized. The improvement in reinforcing steel detailing standards was sought by analyzing the results of the survey including reinforcement constructability.
The behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) columns made from high strength materials was investigated experimentally. Six high-strength concrete specimen columns (1:4 scale), which included three with high-strength transverse reinforcing bars and three with normal-strength transverse reinforcement, were tested under double curvature bending load. The effects of yielding strength and ratio of transverse reinforcement on the cracking patterns, hysteretic response, shear strength, ductility, strength reduction, energy dissipation and strain of reinforcement were studied. The test results indicated that all specimens failed in splitting failure, and specimens with high-strength transverse reinforcement exhibited better seismic performance than those with normal-strength transverse reinforcement. It also demonstrated that the strength of high-strength lateral reinforcing bars was fully utilized at the ultimate displacements. Shear strength formula of short concrete columns, which experienced a splitting failure, was proposed based on the Chinese concrete code. To enhance the applicability of the model, it was corroborated with 47 short concrete columns selected from the literature available. The results indicated that, the proposed method can give better predictions of shear strength for short columns that experienced a splitting failure than other shear strength models of ACI 318 and Chinese concrete codes.

This paper describes an attempt to develop a new truss model for reinforced concrete beams failing in shear based on a rational behavioral model. The key idea incorporated with truss model is the internal force state factor which is able to express global state of internal force flow in cracked reinforced concrete beams subjected to shear and bending. A new truss model using internal force state factor may provide a comprehensive result of shear strength in reinforced concrete beams without web reinforcement.

The modern automotive industry develops innovative vehicle designs to meet increasing stability of car and performance demands of their customers. The improvement of frame rigidity by the structural foam is thought to be an effective means to improve the performance because of high applicability and minimum weight. The object of this paper is to examine the use of structural foam in a hat section as an optimum reinforcing means, to compare the reinforcing performance of structural foam versus a plastic reinforcement. The result of this paper indicated that reinforcing efficiencies are achieved by structural foam and plastic reinforcement shape.

As known, concrete classes are described as strength of standard specimens produced and kept in ideal conditions, not including reinforcement and not subjected to any load effect before. Under the circumstances, transforming core strengths to the standard specimen strength is necessary and considering all parameters, affected on the core strength, is inevitable. In fact, effects of the reinforcement and the load history on concrete strength are generally neglected when these mentioned transforms are performing. The main purpose of this paper is investigating the effects of the reinforcement and the load history on the core strength. This investigation is experimentally performed on cores drilled from specimens having different keeping conditions, reinforced, unreinforced, subjected to bending and central pressure in various proportions of failure load during specified periods. Obtained results show that the importance of these effects cannot be neglected.
