The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of belief in body control on appearance satisfaction using structural equation modeling. In the structural equation model, self-esteem was included as a common predictor variable of belief in body control and appearance satisfaction, and the ideal body type and perceived body type were included as mediator variables. The data was collected from 96 female college students in the State of Washington, United States, Using AMOS 4, confirmatory factor analyses were conducted to fit the measurement models, and then the fit of the structural model was examined. The results of this study are as follows: The indirect effect of belief in body control on appearance satisfaction through its negative effect on ideal body type was significant. Yet, the direct path of belief in body control to appearance satisfaction and the indirect path through their common relationships with self-esteem were found not significant. These results indicate that higher body control belief may lead to lower appearance satisfaction due to the decreased size of ideal body type.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of sociocultural attitudes toward appearance and objectified body consciousness on male consumer' appearance management behavior. The subjects were 648 males aged from 20 to 59 years old, and the questionnaire consisted of sociocultural attitude toward appearance, objectified body consciousness, appearance management behavior, and subject' demographic characteristics. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, factor analysis, and regression analysis. The results were as follows. Three dimensions(appearance importance awareness, slimness importance awareness, and internalization) were emerged on sociocultural attitude toward appearance. Three dimensions(body shame, body surveillance, and control belief) were emerged on objectified body consciousness. Five dimensions(skin, hair, body, fashion, and plastic surgery management) were emerged on appearance management behavior. In sociocultural attitude toward appearance dimensions, appearance importance awareness and internalization had important effects on appearance management behavior. In objectified body consciousness dimensions, body shame and control belief had important effects on appearance management behavior. This results concluded that sociocultural attitude toward appearance and objectified body consciousness are important variables to understand on male consumer' appearance management behavior.
This study was conducted to identify the effect on the weight control of the REBT group program as a nursing intervention. For this purpose, non-equivalent control group design with pretest and posttest and follow-up test as quasi-experiment was used. Subjects of the study were consisted of twenty-four obese girls (Experimental group: 10, control group: 14) who appeared to having above 20% of the body mass index from ane high school in M city. The whole program was carried out from January to June, 2000. Used dependent variables for evaluating the effect of the REBT group program including were weight control belief(rational thinking, emotion about exercise, eating self-efficacy, eating behavior), body mass index and serum lipids(total cholesterol, triglyceride, low-density lipoprotein, high-density lipoprotein). For evaluating the effect of the program, dependent variables was analyzed by experimental stages three times; the first week, the fourth week, and the eighth week since the experimental input began. Data were analyzed by the SAS PC+ program with t-test, repeated measure ANOVA to determine the effect of program. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; 1. After the REBT group program, only eating self-efficacy among the weight control belief of experimental group was significantly increased than that of control group. 2. After the REBT group program, body mass index of experiment group was significantly decreased than that of control group. 3. After the REBT group program, triglyceride and low density lipoprotein among the serum lipids in the experiment group were significantly decreased than those of control group.
This study was conducted to investigate the relationship among pereption of obesity, experience of weight control control and satisfaction with body image in adolescence. The subjects were 221 high school students(91 boys, 130 grils), aged 16.7 years living in a rural area. To determine the perception of obesity, knowledge about obesity, belidfs about obese people, and attitudes towards obese people were measured. The results were as follows: There was high correlation between beliefs about obese people and attitudes toward obese people. When the perception of obesity was compared by sex, girls had significantly more accurate knowledge, stronger beliefs that obesity couldn't be controlled by oneself, the higher the eating disturbance score was. It also appeared that BMI was positively correlated with the positive attitude towards obese people.
This study examined the effects of media exposure and involvement on objectified body consciousness and appearance management behaviors. The subjects were 325 female university students in Daejeon and Chungnam Province. The research method was a survey, and the questionnaire was composed of media exposure and involvement, objectified body consciousness, appearance management behaviors, and subjects' demographic characteristics. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, factor analysis, and regression analysis using SPSS program. The results were as follows. First, female university students used mass media for about 3.76 hours a day and showed a high level of media involvement. Second, three factors (body surveillance, body shame, and appearance control belief) emerged regarding objectified body consciousness with female university students showing a high level of objectified body consciousness. Third, six factors (make-up, plastic surgery, weight control, fashion, hair, and skin care) emerged regarding appearance management behaviors with female university students showing high intention to perform various appearance management behaviors. Fourth, media exposure and involvement had important effects on objectified body consciousness and appearance management behaviors, and media involvement was a more important variable than media exposure. Fifth, objectified body consciousness had important effects on appearance management behaviors. Body shame had more important effects on skin care, weight control, and plastic surgery behaviors, while body surveillance had more important effects on fashion, make-up, and hair management behaviors than other objectified consciousness factors. The implication of this study was that media involvement is a more important variable affecting objectified body consciousness and appearance management behaviors than media exposure, and among objectified body consciousness dimensions, body shame has important effects on more active appearance management behaviors like weight control and plastic surgery behaviors.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the clothing and cosmetics purchasing behaviors of middle aged male consumers according to objectified body consciousness. The subjects were 329 male adults aged from 40 to 59, and measuring instruments consisted of objectified body consciousness, clothing and cosmetics purchasing behaviors, and subjects' demographics attributions. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, cluster analysis, multiple response analysis, cross tabs analysis, and $x^2$ test using the SPSS program. The results were as follows. First, three factors (body shame, body surveillance, and control belief) emerged on objectified body consciousness. Second, subjects were divided into 2 groups (objectified group and non-objectified group) by objectified body consciousness. Third, these two consumer groups showed many differences regarding clothing and cosmetics purchasing behaviors. The objectified group showed many more positive clothing and cosmetics purchasing behaviors than the non-objectified group in terms of purchase motives, selection criteria, information source, purchase place, and purchase cost per month. These results show that objectified body consciousness is a useful variable for understanding adult male clothing and cosmetics purchasing behavior and to segment the male consumer market effectively.
Psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES) is a neuropsychiatric condition that causes a transient alteration of consciousness and loss of self-control. PNES, which occur in vulnerable individuals who often have experienced trauma and are precipitated by overwhelming circumstances, are a body's expression of a distressed mind, a cry for help. PNES are misunderstood, mistreated, under-recognized, and underdiagnosed. The mind-body dichotomy, an artificial divide between physical and mental health and brain disorders into neurology and psychiatry, contributes to undue delays in the diagnosis and treatment of PNES. One of the major barriers in the effective diagnosis and treatment of PNES is the dissonance caused by different illness perceptions between patients and providers. While patients are bewildered by their experiences of disabling attacks beyond their control or comprehension, providers consider PNES trivial because they are not epileptic seizures and are caused by psychological stress. The belief that patients with PNES are feigning or controlling their symptoms leads to negative attitudes of healthcare providers, which in turn lead to a failure to provide the support and respect that patients with PNES so desperately need and deserve. A biopsychosocial perspective and better understanding of the neurobiology of PNES may help bridge this great divide between brain and behavior and improve our interaction with patients, thereby improving prognosis. Knowledge of dysregulated stress hormones, autonomic nervous system dysfunction, and altered brain connectivity in PNES will better prepare providers to communicate with patients how intangible emotional stressors could cause tangible involuntary movements and altered awareness.
The main object of this study was to understand the body image and body management behavior associated with desiring a thinner and more muscular body. The present study examined whether the drives for thinness and muscularity occur concurrently for both male and female college students, and whether there are gender differences. Moreover, the effects of objectified body consciousness on drive for thinness and drive for muscularity were investigated. A self-administered survey was conducted and a total of 390 data were used for data analysis. Participants included 197 male college students and 193 female students. Results indicated that male students reported significantly lower drive for thinness and higher drive for muscularity than female students. However, the drives for thinness and muscularity were significantly correlated for both male and female college students, and they reported discrepancies between their BMI and self-perceived weight and muscle mass. Findings supported the significant effects of objected body consciousness on the drives for thinness and muscularity for both male and females. Sub-dimensions of objectified body consciousness had differential effects on drive for thinness and muscularity. Specifically, body surveillance and body shame significantly influenced male and female students' drive for thinness, while their control belief did not have significant effects on their drive for thinness. Additionally, body shame emerged as significant unique predictor of drive for muscularity. In terms of gender comparisons, while the effect of body shame was the strongest for the males, the effect of surveillance was as strong as that of body shame for the females.
This study stems from the work of Lehman et al. (Ergonomics, 2001) which concluded that standing yields better work performance, and from the growing health trend of recommending the reduction of the amount of time spent in sitting (Owen et al., Exercise and Sport Science Reviews, 2010). Lajoie et al. (Experimental Brain Research, 1993) provided an initial significant contribution to a theory that standing requires a person to control balance, equating to demand higher productive output from the cognitive system than when a person is sitting. An assumption was formulated that standing position during class is feasible and can be adopted on the belief that it might contribute positive results to students' performance. The purpose of this study is to identify whether a body position during exams tested along with exposure durations has a significant effect on college students' performance. Mathematical analysis and reading comprehension exam was used to measure the cognitive performance of the students. Two factors, position and duration, were tested for significance with two levels each subjected to six replicates. Twenty-four students from the College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology, University of the Philippines Los Ba$\tilde{n}$os were randomly selected. The experiment showed that the body position during exams is a significant factor for the Math exam, but insignificant for the Reading Comprehension exam.

The object of religious faith in Daesoonjinrihoe is Gucheon(九天)-yeungwon(應元)-noisung(雷聲)-bohwa(普化)-cheonjon(天尊)-gangsung(姜聖)-sangje(上帝) and Won(元) concept in the explanation of this divinity is deeply related to Wonqi(元氣) thought of the Oriental traditional Qi idea. And the theory of Qi(Qilon, 氣論) in Sangjeguan is related to electricity and the idea that the supreme God governs all things by electricity is the very original interpretation only found in Daesoon thought. The Qilon in Cheonjigongsalon is based on the Qilon of traditional thought that sees Qi is the element of all things and all thing are formed by the change of Qi. And the unique feature of the Qilon is saying that the supreme God, Cheungsan(甑山) operates Qi of universe and arouses the change of Qi. That is to say, God Cheungsan saved the world and all living beings by eliminating and giving and changing and moving and gathering and combining Qi. The characteristics of Qilon in Cheonjigongsalon is that the transcendental existence having human body has the control of the change of Qi in the universe. In conclusion, Qilon of Dasesoon thought tells that Gucheon-Sangje Chengsan governs all things by electricity and he fixed the old world and opened the new world like paradise by conducting the change of Qi.
