아동 또래 놀이행동 척도(PIPPS)의 국내적용을 위한 타당한 연구 (Validation of the Penn Interactive Peer Play Scale for Korean Children)

  • Participants in this study of the validity and reliability of PIPPS (Penn Interactive Peer Play Scale; Fantuzzo et al., 1998) for Korean children were 248 5-to 6-year - old children and 11 teachers. Instruments included the Peer Rating Scale(PRS; Singleton et al., 1979), Social Competence and Behavior Evaluation (SCBE; LaFreniere & Dumas, 1995), and Preschool Behavior Questionnaire (PBQ; Behar & Stringfield, 1974). The structure of PIPPS resulted in 3 factors, 'play disruption', 'play interaction', and 'play disconnection' with 30 items similar to the original PIPPS factors. Validity was evidenced by inter-correlations among sub-factors and by correlations between PIPPS and criterion measures. PIPPS scores were validated by ratings from PRS, SCBE and PBQ sub-areas scores. Cronbach's a reliability of PIPPS factors ranged from .88 to .92.

Effect of vibration during local anesthesia administration on pain, anxiety, and behavior of pediatric patients aged 6-11 years: A crossover split-mouth study

  • Background: Uncooperative behavior of children due to dental anxiety may interfere with the effective delivery of dental care and compromise the quality of treatment provided. Injection of local anesthesia is one of the most anxiety-inducing stimuli in pediatric dentistry. This study aimed to compare the efficacy of a child-friendly device, having a combined effect of vibration and distraction, with the conventional method of injection on pain, anxiety, and behavior of pediatric patients aged 6-11 years. Methods: This randomized, crossover, split-mouth study included 30 children requiring a bilateral inferior alveolar nerve block. The children were equally divided into two groups: group 1, aged 6-8 and group 2, aged 9-11 years. All children were injected with anesthesia using the conventional and device method in two separate sessions. They were assessed for anxiety by measuring the pulse rate before and during the administration of local anesthesia. Behavior was assessed using Faces, Legs, Activity, Cry, Consolability (FLACC) scale, and the child's experience while receiving anesthesia was assessed using the Wong Bakers Pain Rating Scale. Results: Results showed that the children who received local anesthesia using the device method had a lower mean pulse rate, FLACC scores, and pain rating scores than those who received local anesthesia using the conventional method. Conclusion: The device method was more effective than the conventional method in managing pain, anxiety, and behavior of patients aged 6-11 years. The device is a cost effective, simple, and child-friendly product for administrating local anesthesia in pediatric patients.

  • Attention Deficif and Hyperactivity Disorder(ADHD) is a behavioral disoerder characterized by inattentiveness, impulsivity and hyperactivity, This is the case of a ADHD child treated with Neurofeedback therapy. ADHD Diagnotic System(ADS), Conner;s parent rating scale, ADHD-Rating Scale (ARS), Korean Child Behavior Checklist(K-CBCL) were compared between before and after Neurofeedback theraphy. And the EEG(Theta wave, SMR wave and Beta wave) data of each ession was analysed. As a result, Neurofeedback therapy is efficient in the treatment of ADHD.

Behavioral and intelligence outcome in 8- to 16-year-old born small for gestational age

  • Purpose: We investigated behavioral problems, attention problems, and cognitive function in children and adolescents born small for gestational age (SGA). Methods: Forty-six SGA children born at term and 46 appropriate for gestational age (AGA) children born at term were compared. Psychiatric symptoms were examined with reference to the Korean-Child Behavior Checklist, Korean-Youth Self Report, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Rating Scale (ADHD-RS). Cognitive function was estimated using the Wechsler Intelligence Scale. Sociodemographic data were recorded from interviews. Results: SGA children had high scores on delinquent behavior, aggressive behavior, and the externalizing scale, and they also showed a propensity for anxiety and depression. The SGA group had a higher mean ADHD-RS score than the AGA group ($10.52{\pm}8.10$ vs.$9.93{\pm}7.23$), but the difference was not significant. The SGA group had a significantly lower verbal intelligence quotient (IQ) than the AGA group, but the mean scores of both groups were within normal limits. Conclusion: This study indicates marked behavioral problems, such as delinquency, aggressiveness, and anxiety and depression, as well as low verbal IQ in the SGA group than in the AGA group. Even in cases in which these symptoms are not severe, early detection and proper treatment can help these children adapt to society.

유치원 아동의 타액환원효소활성 및 우식경험도와 치과내원시 행동의 연관성에 관한 연구 (CORRELATION OF DENTAL BEHAVIOR WITH SALIVARY REDUCTASE ACTIVITY AND CAIRES ACTIVITY IN PRESCHOOL CHILDREN)

  • The purpose of this study was to know whether the information of caries activity and caries experience of the children can be used to predict the behavior of the children during the dental treatment. The subjects of the study were one hundred and eighty-one preschool children, three to six years old. Salivary reductase activity was tested by the Resazurin Disc Test. Caries experience was examined. The children's behavior was observed using the rating scale of Frankl. Salivary reductase activity of the negative behavior group was slightly higher than that of the positive behavior goup, but the difference was not significant. dt index and ds index of the negative behavior group were significantly higher than those of the positive behavior group. There were no significant differences in ft index and fs index between the two behavior groups. The results suggest that the negative behavior of a child can be predicted when the child has many untreated dental caries.

취학 전 아동용 또래 유능성 척도 개발에 관한 연구 (Development of a Peer Competence Scale for Preschool Children)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a scale for evaluation of preschool children's peer competence and to examine its validity and reliability. The 15 items of the preliminary scale were completed by teachers, and peer rating scale for assessment of peer acceptance was administered to 365 children 5 to 6 years of age. The methods for data analysis included item analysis, factor analysis for construct validity, Pearson correlations between teacher's ratings of peer competence and children's ratings of peer acceptance for concurrent validity, and Cronbach's u for reliability. The 15 items of the scathe were found be satisfactory in terms of item response distribution and item discrimination. Factor analysis revealed that a 3-factor solution was the best fit: sociability, prosocial behavior, leadership in peer relations. Correlations between teacher's ratings and children's ratings were as significant. Cronbach'so ranged from .88 to .93 for three subscales and .93 for the total scale. It was concluded that the psychometric properties of the peer competence scale in general were acceptable for use.

  • Objectives : This study reports on the cases of four ADHD patients who treated with herbal medication based on Disease Pattern Identification Diagnostic System (DPIDS). Methods : Two children and two adults were diagnosed with ADHD according to DSM-V, and Galgeunhwangryeonhwanggeum-tang was administered. The parents of the two children completed the Korean ADHD Rating Scale (K-ARS) before and after treatment, while the other patients used the Korean ADHD Self Rating Scale (K-ASRS). The patients' somatic symptoms and other issues were evaluated through interviews. Results : In the first case, the K-ARS scale exhibited a change from 28 to 3. The patient demonstrated improvements in attention, concentration, and social behavior, along with the elimination of self-injurious behavior. In the second case, the K-ARS scale showed a change from 41 to 9. The patient in the third case demonstrated improved chronic fatigue, increased attention, work efficiency, and enhanced social skills, leading to maintaining employment for over six months for the first time in their life after the treatments. Additionally, the patient in the fourth case demonstrated improved work concentration and relief in nocturia. Conclusions : In this study, four patients exhibited improvements in symptoms of attention deficit, hyperactivity, and impulsivity before and after herbal treatment, leading to enhanced academic and social relationships. As the patients progressed in their health restoration, symptoms related to the genitourinary system also showed improvement.

  • 저자들은 Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(ADHD) 환자에서 과잉활동증을 동반한 집단과 과잉활동증을 동반하지 않은 집단간에 행동 및 정서적 특성을 비교하고, 각 증상척도들 간의 임상적 관계를 알아보기 위하여 본 연구를 시행하였다. ADHD 환자 36명을 Werry-Weiss-Peters Activity Rating Scale(WWPARS) 평가기준(20점)에 따라 Attention Deficit Disorder with Hyperactivity(ADD+H) 집단 19명과 Attention Deficit Disorder without Hyperactivity(ADD-H) 집단 17명으로 분류하여 Conners Rating Scale(CRS), Home Situations Questionnaire(HSQ), School Situations Questionnair(SSQ), Child Behavior Check-list(CBCL) 등을 시행한 결과 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1) 두 집단간에 인구학적 특성은 차이가 없었다. 2) ADD+H 집단의 CRS 행동증상척도는 점수는 ADD-H 집단에 비하여 유의하게 높았으며, HSQ와 SSQ를 통하여 가정과 학교에서의 행동문제 상황을 비교한 결과, ADD+H 집단의 행동문제 상황의 유형이나 개수 및 증상의 심도가 ADD-H 집단에 비하여 유의하게 높았다. 3) 각 집단의 CBCL 8개 소척도 점수를 비교하였을 때, ADD+H 집단의 비행척도와 공격성 척도가 유의하게 높았다. 4) ADHD의 행동증상과 CBCL의 행동정서척도 간의 상관관계를 조사한 결과, CRS, WWWPARS의 행동증상척도와 CBCL의 공격성척도, 비행척도, 정서불안정척도 간에는 유의한 양성 상관관계가 있었으며, 특히 공격성척도와 과잉활동증 간에는 매우 유의한 상관성이 있음을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구결과로 미루어 ADHD는 과잉활동증의 유무에 따라 그 임상적 특징이 차이가 있음을 시사하며, 향후 ADHD의 여러 임상적 유형과 약물치료효과 간의 관련성에 대한 연구 및 ADHD 환자에서 행동 특성과 인지기능이 통합된 연구의 필요성이 요구된다.

유아의 정서기능 및 어머니의 심리적 자세와 유아의 사회적 행동과의 관계 (Relationships among Children's Emotional Intelligence, Maternal Psychological Life Position and Children's Social Behavior)

  • This study examined the relationships among children's emotional intelligence, maternal psychological life position and children's social behavior. The study subjects were 267 four and five-year-old children and their mothers from five childcare centers located in Seoul. The children's social behavior was assessed by the teacher rating scale developed by Lim(1999) and questionnaires were used to assess the maternal psychological life position and children's emotional intelligence. Data was analyzed by t-test, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression. The results demonstrated that the children's social behavior differed according to their gender and age. The strongest predictor of children's social behavior was the children's emotional intelligence.

원전 인적오류 예방을 위한 안전 역량, 행동 지표 및 측정 방법 개발: 예비 연구 (Development of Safety Competences, Behavioral Indicators and Measuring Methods for Preventing Human-Error in Nuclear Power Plants: A Preliminary Study)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop safety competences, a set of behavioral indicators of each competence and measuring methods of behavioral indicators for preventing human error of nuclear power plants(NPPs). The safety competences and behavioral indicators were derived from the five steps consisted of derivation of preliminary competence items through literature review, content analysis, interview(FGI, BEI), examination of content validity and decision making of final indicators. The results showed that 13 core safety competences and 35 behavior indicators were derived finally. In addition, the methods of measuring safety competences or behavioral indicators such as Behaviorally Anchored Rating Scale (BARS), Behavior Observation Scale (BOS) were developed and suggested.
