  • Purpose: This study was done to investigate the practice level of 14 health behaviors between male (N=139) and female (N=175) elderly and to identify the barriers to each health behavior of elderly people in Korea. Methods: Data were collected from 314 elderly people (65yr and older) living in metropolitan, urban, and rural areas. Descriptive statistics, $x^2$-test and ordinal logistic regression were used in data analysis using the SPSS Win 15 version. Results: 1) The performances were different in some health behaviors between male and female elderly people. Male elderly showed better performances in balanced diet, regular exercise, and more than 30 min of exercise, while female elderly showed better performances in restriction of fat and cholesterol, restriction on alcohol, and smoking. There were no differences in stress management and health prevention behaviors between the two groups. 2) The common significant barriers in health behaviors of the elderly in Korea were the lack of habit and physical discomfort. However, the lack of perceived benefit was a significant barrier in male elderly. Lack of time and lack of family support were significant barriers in female elderly people in Korea. Conclusion: These results suggest that tailored strategies should be developed considering the gender difference to reduce the main barriers of each health behavior in order to improve the health status of elderly people.

The survey was conducted on 305 elderly people at home living. As a result, in relation to the sexual attitudes of elderly people, it was shown that the 'rational sexual attitude' was the highest and the 'liberal sexual attitude' was higher than the 'traditional sexual attitude' among the subordinate factors. This study showed that there was a significant correlation between the sexual attitude, sexual coping behavior and life satisfaction. Furthermore, it is shown that the sexual coping behavior significantly mediates the relation between the liberal sexual attitude and life satisfaction of elderly people at home.

The method of study is reviewing literature and previous studies and collecting and analyzing the lifelog information of elderly living alone. The results of the study are as follows. First, it examined the problem of solitary death of the elderly living alone and tried to grasp the problem of the service using the IT technology supported by the government. Second, the lifelog information of the elderly living alone A was collected for two weeks. And the daily patterns of elderly living alone were analyzed through lifelog interpretation. Third, we proposed and discussed the residents' personalized service for managing solitary death based on the lifelog of the elderly living alone. It is an advantage of this paper that it is possible to support customized services by analyzing the general behavior of the elderly living alone and the exceptional behavior in the housing. However, the limitation of this study is that it does not reflect more subjects with various characteristics.

  • This study was conducted to empirically analyze the effect of life behavior and socio-environmental satisfaction on life satisfaction of the elderly with or without hearing loss. To this end, 3,071 elderly people of 「the Survey on the Actual Condition of the Elderly」 in 2020 were set as the subjects. After controlling for their demographic variables, the multiple regression model showed that the elderly with hearing loss had different factors of life behavior and socio-environment satisfaction that affected their life satisfaction compared to those without. As a result, the sub-factors of life behavior in the elderly with hearing loss, such as economic activities, social group activities, the use of the center, and the sub-factors of social environment satisfaction, such as family satisfaction and environmental satisfaction, had a positive (+) effect on life satisfaction. Especially, the elderly with hearing loss had more limitations in both the area of living behavior and the area of social environment satisfaction than the elderly without hearing loss. Therefore, in order to improve the life satisfaction of the elderly with hearing loss, it is suggested that the government and local governments should simultaneously supplement welfare policies and facilities for the elderly with hearing loss.
