  • The difficulties in dealing with the Bioinformatics data come more from its idiosyncrasies than from its quantity Currently researchers need to an easy method for data exchange, manage, update. In order to integrate and manage all kinds of biological data, it is reasonable to adopt XML as standard tool since XML is independent of operating system, programming language and hardware platform. Although XML in Bioinformatics has been used widely as a standard notation abroad, however it is the beginning step in the domestic research. This article reviews a basic concept of XML and how to apply XML modeling in Bioinformatics. In addition we present XML applications for genomic sequences, structures and genetic network modeling.

  • Soybean (Glycine max L.), a major part of Asian diet, is consumed primarily for its nutritional value. However, poor storage stability often leads to loss of nutritional value or deterioration in quality. This study focused on the storage stability of soy flour obtained from raw and roasted "Saedanbaek" soybeans packed in polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PPE) film bags that were stored at $4^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$ and $45^{\circ}C$ for 48 weeks. The early acid values (diene and p-anisidine) of raw soybean flour (RSF) at high temperature (HT) were higher than those at refrigerated temperature (RFT) and room temperature (RT) during 48 and 12 to 36 weeks, respectively. In the case of roasted soybean flour (ROSF), which was stored at RFT and RT, the acid and conjugated diene values gradually increased after 24 weeks. In RSF, the peroxide value increased since the beginning of the $24^{th}$ week. The p-anisidine value also increased during 12 to 36 weeks but was much lower than the values obtained from HT storage. As the peroxide values decreased, the p-anisidine values increased, indicating an inverse relationship. Lipoxygenase activity of ROSF at all storage conditions was lower than RSF. Several differences were observed between the packing materials used. This study could, therefore, provide useful information for the industrial use of soybean flour (SF).

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the stress causes of the primary students in Korea, through the three major methods, life event score, multiple regression about stress causes and G.H.Q. path-diagram. A survey was made of 889 students who were selected among students of six primary schools in seoul and Ka-pyeng, from Sep. 28 to Oct. 2. 1992. The results of this study are summarized as follows : 1. Life event score Among the children's life events, (deaths of family) (degrade of school record) (the increase of absence days) (divorce of parents) (trouble with relationship) are high ranking in life event score. Besides, (scolded by teacher and parents) (beginning of extracurricular work) are spread stress causes. In conclusion, these stress causes are shown by two aspects, home, school, and so children are under stress circumstance in both places. These stress causes vary with area and sex. 2. Multiple regression about stress causes and G.H.Q. This study analysed how a stress caused by home life affects the children's health of mind and body. The most influential factors are , and these factors vary with area and sex. 3. Path-diagram This study proved that socio-psychological school environment raises children to secede from school, and this secession that operates as a stress cause affects children's health of mind and body. This serial process is analysed by path analysis, and made out a path-diagram. In conclusion, as expected socio-psychological,school environment affects the children's health of mind and body. This is shown by two aspects : positive, negative. This stress causes vary with area and sex.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the changes in the daily life and quality of life of the elderly due to the spread of COVID-19. This study attempted to supplement the limitations of quantitative analysis by performing both quantitative and qualitative analysis. A large-scale representative data, the Elderly Survey 2017 and 2020, were analyzed, and in-depth interviews were conducted with a total of 16 elderly people in Gwangju and Seoul. As a result, it was found that the overall quality of life was positively changed compared to before Corona. The frequency of contact and visits with family members decreased whereas the time spent watching TV increased. The elderly's adaptation to daily life has a series of processes since the first outbreak of COVID-19. At the beginning of the outbreak, there were fear, anxiety, and depression due to isolation, but gradually made efforts to adapt to the new situation. They reported that they realized the importance of human relationships, especially spouses, in a crisis situation and that there were some positive aspects as well. Finally, in all these results a difference was found between single-person households and multi-person households. Through the above research results, academic and policy measures were discussed.

  • Ryuseo(類書) is a type of traditional books and seems like today's encyclopedia. For compilation of this book, the contents with good ideas and the improvement in method of editing are very important. The process of development, basic form, reception and transformation, the method of succession in today were investigated with the traditional Ryuseo through this study. In Korea, the publishing of this book in the beginning was just republishing of Chinese Ryuseo. During the reign of king Sunjo of Chosun dynasty, Ryuseo for Korean, "Daedongeunbugunok(大東韻府群玉)" was published. Also the basic form of Ryuseo had to be changed in this period. Kimyuk increased practical use of this book by summarizing "Samunryuchui(事文類聚)". The first complete Korean Ryuseo was "Kosachalyo(故事撮要)" that was published in 1554, king Myungjong. In the book was included contents about diplomacy and daily life by Eosukkwun. In 1771, king Youngjo, "Kosashinseo(故事新書)" was published. It had more information about actual life than Kosachalyo. Ryuseo should be considered with two things when it is read by modern readers. One is the development of material for study and another is to ensure the readers. So Ryuseo could be a good basic material for developing contents of internet. Reproduction of this book by new one should be considered with increasing its function. Because reforming classical material by digital one is necessary for daily life in today.

  • The urban development, resulting from the economic growth that initiated in the 1960s, focused on outward expansion until the 1980s. However, beginning in the early 1990s, there has been a steady increase in the attention paid to the qualitative aspects of life. With increased income and awareness of quality life, citizens today demand for various good quality services. For them, urban public facilities are an important part of community life because the facilities have effect on their psychological comfort or satisfaction with residential area. Nevertheless, in reality, due to the lack of society's awareness of the importance and necessity of public facilities, not enough investment is being made in public facilities, failing to meet the growing demand for the facilities. This study examined the public facilities of provincial cities with focus on the number and total area size of the facilities, then compared and analyzed the facilities in terms of number and total area size. It is hoped that the findings from the study will encourage policy makers to increase support for public facilities, contributing to achieving the sustainable growth of cities.

  • Objectives: The current study aims to examine whether the influence of National Long-term Care Insurance(NLCI) on the quality of life(QoL) trajectory of older adults with disabilities is more positive than its influence on those without disabilities. Methods: Sample consisted of 5,362 elderly aged 65 and over who participated in the Korean Welfare Panel Study from Wave1 to Wave7. Data were analyzed using latent growth curve modeling. Results: Major findings are as follows. (1) Before the NLCI, the trajectories of QoL between older adults with disabilities and those without were same. (2) After the NLCI, elders with disabilities showed lower levels of QoL at the beginning, but the gaps gradually decreased with time. These results indicate that the implementation of NLCI more positively affected elders with disabilities than those without disabilities. Conclusions: These results suggest that the NLCI functions properly as one of social security nets to cope with the needs of older adults with disabilities. In conclusion, it is critical to develop a sustainable NLCI system to enhance the QoL of older adults with disabilities.

  • Purpose: This ethnography in communication aimed to explore the changes in consciousness on time and temporality as an elderly became older. This study focused on time as a primary message systems of Edward Hall. Methods: The assumption of the study was that the aging body as an expression of biological time is a meta of physical, personal, and social time. Data were collected from iterative fieldwork in a clan between Jan, 1990 and April, 2007. The key informants were 13 women and men aged 70 years old or more at the beginning of study. Changes in physical time and temporality as the women's body declined in its physical function was analyzed. As the cultural context, informants' every life and the history of the clan were also analyzed. Results: The meta-time of the informants were constituted as follows: In the low-contextual dimension, physical time perceived as longer and personal time perceived as shorter than they were young; In high-contextual dimension, informant and residents had a polychronic perspective and aged-centered time perspectives.; In the supernatural dimension of time, sacred time were reinforced by rituals. Informants extended temporality to their springs' world and ancestors' world. Conclusion: As the informants recognized slugged body movements and time-limited present life, their views on their life world towards the future of spring and of the sacred world of ancestors. Thereby, their identity as a member of a clan was reinforced. This result informed us on what we should focus on when caring with older women.

  • Till the 21st century, fatty acids were considered as merely building blocks for triglycerides, phospholipids, or cholesteryl esters. However, the discovery of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) for free fatty acids at the beginning of the 21st century challenged that idea and paved way for a new field of research, merged into the field of receptor pharmacology for intercellular lipid mediators. Among the GPCRs for free fatty acids, free fatty acid receptor 4 (FFA4, also known as GPR120) recognizes long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids such as DHA and EPA. It is significant in drug discovery because it regulates obesity-induced metaflammation and GLP-1 secretion. Our study reviews information on newly developed FFA4 agonists and their application in pathophysiologic studies and drug discovery. It also offers a potency comparison of the FFA4 agonists in an AP-TGF-α shedding assay.

  • Cilia are important eukaryotic cellular compartments required for diverse biological functions. Recent studies have revealed that protein targeting into the proper ciliary subcompartments is essential for ciliary function. In Drosophila chordotonal cilium, where mechano-electric transduction occurs, two transient receptor potential (TRP) superfamily ion channels, TRPV and TRPN, are restricted to the proximal and distal subcompartments, respectively. To understand the mechanisms underlying the sub-ciliary segregation of the two TRPs, we analyzed their localization under various conditions. In developing chordotonal cilia, TRPN was directly targeted to the ciliary tip from the beginning of its appearance and was retained in the distal subcompartment throughout development, whereas the ciliary localization of TRPV was considerably delayed. Lack of intraflagella transport-related proteins affected TRPV from the initial stage of its pre-ciliary trafficking, whereas it affected TRPN from the ciliary entry stage. The ectopic expression of the two TRP channels in both ciliated and non-ciliated cells revealed their intrinsic properties related to their localization. Taken together, our results suggest that sub-ciliary segregation of the two TRP channels relies on their distinct intrinsic properties, and begins at the initial stage of their pre-ciliary trafficking.
