  • 2-Pyridinecarboxaldehyde thiocarbohydrazone(PyTC) have been reacted with $Cu^{2+}$ to form $[Cu(PyTC)H_2O)]SO_4$. This complex is soluble in water and polar organic solvents. The complex has been characterized by elemental analysis, conductivity, effective magnetic moment, and spectroscopic data. From the results the complex is square planar. The colorimetric determination of Cu(II) ion by using PyTC as a ligand was studied. The solution of copper(II) with PyTC was obeyed Beer's law in concentration up to $2.9{\times}10^{-4}M$ at pH 4.

  • The wavelength of chlorophyll-b on the absorbance and fluorescence emission were shifted to the longer depending on the increasing of solvent polarities but fluorescence excitation spectra were not. The presence of chl-b oligomers and monomers were identified by the specra of fluorescence emission. Fluorescence excitation, absorbance and the measurement of its intensities vs. the concentration of n-prOH added to chl-b solution. The calibration curve of chl-b solution were not obeyed to Beer's law in the range of concentrated soln. because of the presence as the oligomers.

  • We studied absorbance of tinted dye absorbed into tinted lenses by Spectrophotometric method. Used lenses and tinted dye were CR-39 plastic optical lenses and Ons & $Lavas^{(R)}$ Blue, respectively. Absorbance values of tinted dye absorbed into tinted lenses were obtained from the differences of absorbance values between tinted lenses and CR-30 lenses. Average concentrations of tinted dye absorbed into tinted lenses were obtained from the mass differences between tinted lenses and CR-30 lenses. The relationship between absorbance and average concentration for tinted dye absorbed into tinted lenses was also confirmed to follow Beer’s law. The absorption coefficient calculated from the tangent of the calibration curve was determined to be a=0.983 $Lg^{-1}cm^{-1}$.

  • Spray cross-section was measured by the Optical Line Patternator (OLP) and Optical Tomography at high ambient pressure. The laser line beam passed through the spray region, then Mie scattered signal and transmitted light were captured. The measured signal was processed to obtain a distribution of attenuation coefficient in spray cross-section. Beer-Lambert's law and mathematical reconstruction methods were used to reconstruct the distribution of attenuation coefficient. Spray became dense at high pressure and attenuation of scattered signal occurred seriously. OLP method, which uses Mie scattered signal, showed limit in compensating attenuation problem in dense spray region. Optical tomography reconstructed spray cross-section well, from transmission rate of light penetrating spray region.

  • ln order to manage efficiently many ancient wooden buildings, which have been preserved as cultural properties in Korea, the internal state of wood members should be evaluated exactly and periodically by a NDE (non-destructive evaluation) method. A research project was planned to develop an X-ray CT (computed tomography) system as a NDE method for wood, which could be easily applied in field. This paper includes the first part of this project. First of all, to establish a measuring procedure of wood density using X-ray radiography, the correlation between X-ray intensity and the film brightness was evaluated. Also, initial X-ray intensity was quantified with various radiate conditions controlled by the tube voltage and tube current. And then, the effects of density, annual ring angle, and thickness on the mass attenuation coefficient of wood were examined. Finally, Beer's law was modified with the above results and adopted to calculate the density of wood. As a result of this study, the measuring procedure of wood density was established using a portable soft X-ray device and this procedure was verified with some small wood specimens. This results will he used valuably for the following researches to develop a portable X-ray CT system.

  • A study of the transition from transitory state to steady state in DSSCs based on natural dyes is presented; cochineal was used as dye and Li+, Na+, and K+ were the ions added to the electrolyte. The photocurrent profiles were obtained as a function of time. Several DSSCs were prepared with different cations and their role and the transitory-to-steady transition was determined. A novel hybrid charge carrier source model based on the Heaviside function H(t) and the Lambert-Beer law, was developed and applied to analysis of the transient response of the output photocurrent. Additionally, the maximum effective light absorption coefficient α and the electronic extraction rate κ for each ion were determined: ${\alpha}_{Li^+,Na^+,K^+}\,=\,(0.486,\,0.00085,\,0.1126)\,cm^{-1}$, and also the electronic extraction rate ${\kappa}^{Li^+,Na^+,K^+}_{ext.}\,=\,(1410,\,19.07,\,19.69)\,cm\,s^{-1}$. The impedance model using Fick's second law was developed for carrier recombination to characterize the photocurrent.

It is used Beckman Du Spectrophotometer as a apparatus. The petroleum ether extract of ethinyl estradiol is determined at $535\;m{\mu}$ and the chloroform extract of norethindrone acetate is determined at $380\;m{\mu}$ respectively. This analytical method is formed Lambert Beer's law. This method can be used to the analysis of ethinyl estradiol aid norethindrone acetate mixture in commercial dosage form of routine assay.

  • A rapid, simple and sensitive spectrophotometric method was developed for the determination of cobalt(II) using 2-hydroxy-3-methoxy benzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone (HMBATSC) as a analytical reagent. The metal ion in aqueous medium forms a brown coloured complex with HMBATSC at pH 6.0. The complex has two absorption maxima at 375 nm and 390 nm. At 375 nm, the reagent shows considerable absorbance, while at 390 nm the reagent does not shows appreciable absorbance. Hence, analytical studies were carried out at 390 nm. Beer's law is obeyed in the range of 0.059-2.357 μg ml-1 of Co(II). The molar absorptivity and Sandall's sensitivity of the method are 2.74×104 l mol-1 cm-1 and 0.0024 μg cm-2 respectively. The interference of various diverse ions has been studied. The complex has 1:2 [Co(II)- HMBATSC] stoichiometry. A method for the determination of cobalt(II) by second order derivative spectrophotometry has also been proposed. The proposed methods were applied for the determination of cobalt(II) in alloy steels, vitamin B12 and in some biological samples.

  • A selective and highly sensitive spectrophotometric measurements have been developed for the determination of trace mercury(II) with thiosulfate and PAR. Hg(II)-thiosulfate complex was extracted into high molecular alkylamine such as quaternary ammonium salt and back extracted into 1 M-HCl solution. The Hg(II)-PAR complex has maximum absorbance at 499 nm and obeys Beer's law in the range of 0.04~1.0 $\mu g/mL$ of mercury(II). The molar absorptivity and Sandell's sensitivity are $6.27\times 10^4 L.mole^{-1} cm^{-1}$ and $3.2\times 10^{-3}g/cm^2$ respectively.

  • A simple, rapid and sensitive spectrophotometric method is herewith proposed for the determination of copper(II) by using diamine-dioxime ligand, meso-3,6,6,9-tetramethyl-4,8-diazaundecane-2,10-dione dioxime or meso-HexaMethyl Propylene Amine Oxime (meso-HMPAO). This method is based on the formation of a stable 1 : 1 red-pink complex between copper(II) and meso-HMPAO in aqueous solution. Absorption measurements were carried at 497 nm, with a molar absorptivity value of 338 L $mol^{-1}\;cm^{-1}$. Beer's law was obeyed over the concentration range of 0.5-370 ${\mu}$g $mL^{-1}$ with a Sandell's sensitivity value of 0.18 ${\mu}$g $cm^{-2}$. The proposed method has been successfully applied for determination of copper(II) in foodstuffs and pharmaceutical samples. The results obtained from this method are comparable with those obtained AAS.
