In this paper, the effects of crude oil contamination on the geotechnical properties of sand such as compaction characteristics, shear strength, permeability, and bearing capacity are presented. The test results indicate that the compaction characteristics are somewhat influenced by oil contamination. The angle of internal friction of sand based on total stress analysis decreases due to the presence of oil within the pore spaces in Band. The bearing capacity of sand is significantly influenced by oil contamination.

Recently the most of deep foundation were socketed into weathered rock or soft rock to carry large foundation loads. The end bearing behavior of piles socketed in rock is generally dependent on the rock mass conditions with discontinuities and rock strength. Therefore, it is very important that the estimating rock classification with relation of TCR, RQD and unpredicted rock condition. In this study, the construction failure example of drilled shaft due to mistaking to estimate the rock classification on penetration were analyzed in site, so we hope to discuss problems of determining the rock socketed length of drilled shaft on construction.

Porthole die extrusion has a great advantage in the forming of hollow section tubes difficult to produce by conventional extrusion with a mandrel on the stem. Because of the complicated structure of die assembly, extrusion process as a forming of hollow section tubes has been investigated experimentally Therefore, analytic approaches that are useful in profitable die design and in the improvement of productivity are inevitably demanded Welding strength is affected by many parameters, which are such as extrusion ratio, extrusion speed, die shape, porthole number, bearing length, billet temperature and mandrel shape. In this paper, the parameters, which are such as billet temperature, bearing length and tube thickness, are examined. The welding pressures are examined through 3D simulation of non steady state and compared with experimental results.
Bending behaviors of corroded reinforced concrete (RC) beams under repeated loading were investigated experimentally. A total of twenty test specimens, including four non-corrosion and sixteen corrosion reinforced concrete beams, were prepared and tested. A numerical model for flexural and cracking behaviors of the beam under repeated loading was also developed. Effects of steel corrosion on reinforced concrete beams regarding cracking, mid-span deflection, stiffness and bearing capacity of corroded beams were studied. The impact of corrosion on bond strength as the key factor was investigated to develop the computational model of flexural capacity. It was shown from the experimental results that the bond strength between reinforcement and concrete had increased for specimen of low corrosion levels, while this effect was changed when the corrosion level was higher. It was indicated that the bearing capacity of corrosion beam increased even at a corrosion level of about 5%.

As a newly structural system, RCS composite system has been researched last two decades. However mechanism of exterior T-type joint for RCS composite system is not well known. This research is focus on the exterior T-type joint for RCS composite system. Specimens are designed by the ASCE guideline, tested and compared with the inner RCS joint. Test variables include face bearing plate(FBP), extended face bearing plate(E-FBP) and U-bar. The tests indicate that the strength of exterior T-type joint is higher than that of the guideline by ASCE. The U-bar has a significant effect on the joint strength and absorbing the strain energy.
The internal crack propagation, the failure mode and ultimate load bearing capacity of the steel-concrete-steel composite beam under the four-point-bend loading is investigated by the numerical simulation. The results of load - displacement curve and failure mode are in good agreement with experiment. In order to study the failure mechanism, the composite beam has been modeled, which part interface interaction between steel and concrete is considered. The results indicate that there are two failure modes: (a) When the strength of the interface is lower than that of the concrete, failure happens at the interface of steel and concrete; (b) When the strength of the interface is higher than that of the concrete, the failure modes is cohesion failure, i.e., and concrete are stripped because of the shear cracks at concrete edge.
Numerous tests on concrete structure members under local pressure demonstrated that the compressive strength of concrete at the loaded surface is increased by the confinement effect provided by the enveloping concrete. Even though most design codes propose specific criteria for preventing bearing failure, they do not take into consideration size effect which is an important phenomenon in the fracture mechanics of concrete/reinforced concrete. In this paper, six series of square prism concrete blocks with three different depths (size range = 1:4) and two different height/depth ratios of 2 and 3 are tested under concentrated load. Ultimate loads obtained from the test results are analysed by means of the modified size effect law (MSEL). Then, a prediction formula, which considers effect of both depth and height on size effect, is proposed. The developed formula is compared with experimental data existing in the literature. It is concluded that the observed size effect is in good agreement with the MSEL.
In this thesis, appearance inspection, compressive strength of concrete test, arrangement of bar inspection, survey, and bearing stress analysis were performed on a damaged coping of reinforced concrete pier to investigate the damage cause. According to the performed a series of inspections, it was found that the coping of pier was damaged during PSC (Pre-stressed Concrete) beam construction. In this thesis, the repair method for damaged pier was studied. The repair procedure used in this thesis was follows : chipping for damaged part, clean by high-pressure, installation of wire mesh, coating of surface hardening, construction of section restoration material, copula grinding, and prevent coating for far-infrared radiation.
Light weight filling method prevents settlement of ground by decreasing the weight of fills. This method is increasingly used for it's convenience and workability. Styrofoam is increasingly used as a lightweight filling material in soft ground. The beneficial effects of the use of EPS derive from minimizing the stress increment, increasing the bearing capacity and reducing the settlement. For this study, model test and FEM analysis of bearing capacity is carried out composing two-layered ground with clay in the lower layer and lightweight filling material in upper layer. Based on the results obtained here in this study, it is concluded that the use of recycled EPS beads is acceptable lightweight fill. Light weight fills used for disposal is superior to typical embankment fills in bearing capacity.

The end bearing behavior of piles socketed in weathered/soft rock is generally dependent upon the mass conditions of rock with fractures rather than the strength of intact rock. However, there are few available data and little guidance in the prediction of the end bearing capacity of drilled shafts socketed in weathered/soft rock, considering rock mass weathering. Therefore, a database of 13 load tests was constructed first, and new empirical relationships between the base reaction modulus of piles in rock and rock mass properties were developed. No correlation was found between the compressive strengths of intact rock and the base reaction modulus of weathered/soft rock. The ground investigation data regarding the rock mass conditions(e.g. Em, Eur, RMR, RQD) was found to be highly correlated with the base reaction modulus, showing the coefficients of correlation greather than 0.7 in most cases. Additionally, the applicability of existing methods for the end bearing capacity of piles in rock was verified by comparison with the field test data.
