Currently, the multi-residential apartments used in Korea are mostly bearing wall apartments which don't satisfy consumers for the lack of architectural plan flexibility. And due to remodelling-incompatible, bearing wall apartments have to be reconstructed. It is, thus, necessary to develop multi-residential apartments utilizing composite beam that can replace the conventional bearing wall-type apartment buildings. Composite beams proposed in this paper ensure modification of space and quality control, while the floor heights are maintained at the same floor height as in bearing wall structures. This study analyzes the experimental behavior of composite beams with proper combination of structural steel, reinforced concrete, and precast concrete. By comparing with the theoretical analysis and experimental results, the accuracy of flexural moment capacity and neutral axis was evaluated. The experiments were performed by two simply-supported specimens using loading and unloading. When the analysis results were compared with the experimental results, the flexural moment capacity of the composite beam was shown with an error of approximately -0.5 to 0.1% at the maximum load limit state.
In this paper, the case studies of reducing rotational errors is theoretically done for a grinding spindle with an active magnetic bearing system. The rotational errors acting on the magnetic bearing spindle are due to mass unbalance of rotor, runout, grinding excitation and unmodeled nonlinear dynamics of electromagnets. For the most case, the electrical runout of sensor target is big even in well finished surface, this runout can cause a rotation error amplified by feedback control system. The adaptiveed forward method based on LMS algorithm is discussed to compensate this kind of runout effects, and investigated its effectiveness by numerical simulation and experimental analysis. The electrical runout form the rear sensor target of grind spindle is about 70$\mu\textrm{m}$ with harmonic frequencies. The rotor orbit size in rear bearing is reduced about to 5$\mu\textrm{m}$ due to 1X and 2X rejection by feedforward control.
This paper deals with the control of a horizontally placed flexible rotor levitated by electromagnets in a multi-input/multi-output (MIMO) active magnetic bearing(AMB) system. AMB is a kind of novel high performance bearing which can suspend the rotor by magnetic force. Its contact-free manner between the rotor and stator results in it being able to operate under much higher speed than conventional rolling bearings with relatively low power losses, as well as being environmental-friendly technology for AMB system having no wear and no lubrication requirements. In this MIMO AMB system, the rotor is a complex mechanical system, it not only has rigid body characteristics such as translational and slope motion but also bends as a flexible body. Reduced order nominal model is computed by consideration of the first 3 mode shapes of rotor dynamics. Then, the $H_{\infty}$ control strategy is applied to get robust controller. Such robustness of the control system as the ability of disturbance rejection and modeling error is guaranteed by using $H_{\infty}$ control strategy. Simulation results show the validation of the designed control system and the modeling method to the rotor.
Due to the importance of accurate analysis of bearing capacity in civil engineering projects, this paper studies the efficiency of two novel metaheuristic-based models for this objective. To this end, black hole algorithm (BHA) and multi-verse optimizer (MVO) are synthesized with an artificial neural network (ANN) to build the proposed hybrid models. Based on the settlement of a two-layered soil (and a shallow footing) system, the stability values (SV) of 0 and 1 (indicating the stability and failure, respectively) are set as the targets. Each model predicted the SV for 901 stages. The results indicated that the BHA and MVO can increase the accuracy (i.e., the area under the receiving operating characteristic curve) of the ANN from 94.0% to 96.3 and 97.2% in analyzing the SV pattern. Moreover, the prediction accuracy rose from 93.1% to 94.4 and 95.0%. Also, a comparison between the ANN's error decreased by the BHA and MVO (7.92% vs. 18.08% in the training phase and 6.28% vs. 13.62% in the testing phase) showed that the MVO is a more efficient optimizer. Hence, the suggested MVO-ANN can be used as a reliable approach for the practical estimation of bearing capacity.
High-precision lasers and anti-aircraft radars are the main equipment to protect the Korean Peninsula, and require preemptive maintenance before signs of failure. Of the key components in the drive sector, bearings do not have a fault alarm function. Therefore, the technology for diagnosing defects in bearings before the performance degradation of equipment occurs is becoming more important. In this paper, for the experimental analysis, we measured the acceleration of the four sets of the same lot using acceleration sensors. Through periodic measurements, the factors that changed until the bearing stopped rotating were analyzed. To determine the replacement time, the main factors and threshold values of the bearing signal were analyzed. The error of the theoretical and experimental analysis results of the defect frequency was within 2.8 %, and the validity of the theoretical analysis results could be confirmed. Based on the results, it is possible to remotely transmit trouble alerts to users through the system check function.
Five DOF motion errors of a hydrostatic bearing table driven by the coreless type linear motor were compensated utilizing the active controlled capillaries in this study. Horizontal linear motion and yaw error were simultaneously compensated using two active controlled capillaries and vertical linear motion, pitch and yaw error were also simultaneously compensated using three active controlled capillaries. By the compensation, horizontal linear motion accuracy and yaw were improved from 0.16 ${\mu}m$ and 1.96 arcsec to 0.02 ${\mu}m$ and 0.03 arcsec. Vertical linear motion accuracy, pitch and roll were also largely improved from 0.18 ${\mu}m$, 2.26 arcsec and 0.14 arcsec upto 0.03 ${\mu}m$, 0.07 arcsec and 0.02 arcsec. The compensated motion errors were within the range of measuring repeatability which was ${\pm}0.02\;{\mu}m$ in the linear motion and ${\pm}0.05$ arcsec in the angular motion. From these results, it is found that the motion error compensation method utilizing the active controlled capillaries are very effective to improve the five motion accuracies of the hydrostatic bearing tables.
In this research, the gene expression programming (GEP) technique was employed to provide a new model for predicting the maximum loading capacity of concrete-encased steel (CES) columns. This model was developed based on 96 CES column specimens available in the literature. The six main parameters used in the model were the compressive strength of concrete (fc), yield stress of structural steel (fys), yield stress of steel rebar (fyr), and cross-sectional areas of concrete, structural steel, and steel rebar (Ac, As and Ar respectively). The performance of the prediction model for the ultimate load-carrying capacity was investigated using different statistical indicators such as root mean square error (RMSE), correlation coefficient (R), mean absolute error (MAE), and relative square error (RSE), the corresponding values of which for the proposed model were 620.28, 0.99, 411.8, and 0.01, respectively. Here, the predictions of the model and those of available codes including ACI ITG, AS 3600, CSA-A23, EN 1994, JGJ 138, and NZS 3101 were compared for further model assessment. The obtained results showed that the proposed model had the highest correlation with the experimental data and the lowest error. In addition, to see if the developed model matched engineering realities and corresponded to the previously developed models, a parametric study and sensitivity analysis were carried out. The sensitivity analysis results indicated that the concrete cross-sectional area (Ac) has the greatest effect on the model, while parameter (fyr) has a negligible effect.
Basic governing equations for the Active Magnetic Bearing system are derived. Characteristic difference between PD and PID controllers are studied. It is shown that I-control action is able to minimize the steady state error and increase the stiffness in low frequency range.
